Re: The Man of Steel

I don't want to see Lex Luthor again in a superman film, I want superman to show how super he is by fighting some real supervillains that can physically match up with him like Doomsday, and Darkseid. I want mayhem and destruction across cities.

Luther is as much a part of the Superman cast as Lois, Jimmy and Perry. He is the manipulator, the string puller. He should rarely be the front and center villain, but his presence should always be felt.

As for the original Reeves films, these are being made about a decade after Adam West, and nearly a decade before Crisis, Byrne, Miller and Moore. The tone of the films were not that different from the comics of that time. However, the radical shift in the tone of comics during the 80s left them feeling dated very quickly. Superman II in particular doesn't hold up as well, but there is still a ton of great **** in the first film.

Superman as a character is about destroying cities.

Re: The Man of Steel

I just want to know why he's a bearded fisherman. Kansas is in the middle of no where.

He's Clark Kent, mild mannered reporter, born and raised with old fashioned American ideals. Not a grungy man like Gorton the fish stick man.

Re: The Man of Steel

SR sucks in every way imaginable, Donner's movies are classics and hold up to dis day.

SR didn't hold up the first time.

ZzzzzzZzzzzzz

Only thing that is memorable is the plane rescue, wooped de doo, he caught a plan.

This new movie better be good or Snyder and JL will be DOA, WB will be begging Nolan to save their company.

And then we'll have a Superman that doesn't want to be Superman and cannot fly without the latest in military technology.

My guess is that once he grows up he will leave Kansas and go out to sea/travel the world, to find himself - to try to answer the questions about his past which haunt him, and to figure out his reason for being sent to Earth.

Honestly, if you've ever been to Kansas you'd understand why he went as far as he could go in the US away from there. :lol

Yea what the hell drove him to be a fisherman. I guess since nolan is involved he has to be a bearded down on his luck hero at some point.:dunno

Re: The Man of Steel

Maybe his powers haven't fully developed, and that's part of his voyage to the Fortress of Solitude(if that's in the film)?

Re: The Man of Steel

It could be anything, and your guess is as good as mine, but I do have a strong feeling that we won't see him in fully formed Superman getup till past the halfway point in the film. I think the structure will be similar to BB.

So long as the first half is chalk-full of Kryptonian action and not a bunch of "yes ma" and "yes pa" bull****, that's fine. As with most of the A-list heroes nowadays, Superman's origin is something that can be easily told in an opening credits crawl and doesn't need to take up most of the film.

Re: The Man of Steel

Yeah because it's oh so normal for a guy to grow up with unfathomable super powers and just fit into society seamlessly :dunno

If I had Superman's powers and I grew up in a relatively normal household with great parents (Ma and Pa Kent are like the ideal parental figures), I don't think I'd be complaining about anything.

:lol

Not when I could look through walls and clothes, be the strongest person on the planet, practically be invincible and FLY anywhere I wanted.

Nothing there to really get depressed about. The only thing that would be a concern is the loss of my loved ones and those around me, but that's the case with EVERYONE.

Superman is what every child and man dreams they could be. An Übermensch, a superman, the ideal person. He's fantasy come to life.

I just hope they don't make him "dark" and grapple with self discovery problems and issues. Hopefully the whole movie isn't about him trying to grasp what it means to be a hero and if he should even be Superman, instead of, you know just letting the character be the character. There should be that initial doubt when Supes finds out "oh ****, I'm from another planet" but other than that, the threat against Earth or Metropolis or whatever should be his primary concern in this film. I'm just really hoping there's not angst and some typical Greek epic/tragedy bull**** thrown in.

He should be the perfect example of a cut and dry superhero. He's arguably the least complex of all the hero's out there, which is hardly a bad thing.
