Re: The Man of Steel

Is it safe to assume the trailer we're getting with The Hobbit is the Comic Con one? As much as I'd like to see a new trailer, that CC trailer was so unbelievably awesome with the Thin Red Line score and everything. To have that in HD would be glorious.

That no one knows yet

Re: The Man of Steel

I grew up with Superman the Movie. I saw it in the theatre when I was 5. Reeve will always be Superman to me. I loved it then and still have a special place for it in my heart and memory as a child. But all children grow up and now I would like a Superman story that is grown up too. I still want him to have his ideals and stick to his principles but be faced with more grown up challenges and decisions. The ultimate Boy Scout being thrown into a world of darkness and doubt to be that light humanity lacks to show them the way.

Maybe zod is the first kryptonian to reveal himself and people are frightened of him. And rightly so. So when another emerges all they know is fear but to show them they have nothing to fear from him he cooperates with what they need him to so to feel safe.

Imagine Zod, sitting at a table of the unites nations or congress or the senate, discussing terms for the worlds surrender to him when someone speaks out against him. If you could move faster than the eye can see and had devious intent all you would have to do is blur over, and crush the mans windpipe, sit back down, and watch him suffocate. Or perhaps a bigger show of force is needed like microwave someone from the inside with heat vision until their eyes and brain boil out of their face and ears. That would probably strike fear in humanity.

Now another comes and of course everyone would fear two aliens over one. Would you really trust someone with that much power to always do the right thing? I'm not sure I could without proof and evidence. Even then you'd watch your back for signs of an anterior motive. No one on earth is that good so how could someone from another planet be? Especially after seeing what Zod can do.

If someone could kill you in the blink of an eye and there would be no witness that could see it or prove it, wouldn't you be terrified?

We love superman because that's who he is and we know him. But to a world that doesn't trust comes more slowly. Even great villains have saved people to earn trust and just when we trust them the most is when they turn on us.

I may sound a little paranoid but these fears are real and I have a feeling they will be the basis for the tone of this movie. Or at least I think they should be.

Great post :clap I agree totally, I wasn't quite born when the first reeve movie came out but I watched it plenty as a kid and it will always be fondly remembered. Not only for nostalgia but I watched it recently for the first time in years and, while not perfect, it does so many great things.
I'm really excited for man of steel and hope that it delivers a different take on the character. But that doesn't mean I'll stop loving the older films. It's great to have different versions and interpretations to fit different moods.

My thoughts aswell. I loved the comic-con trailer, I hope Zimmer's soundtrack is similar to what he did with the thin red line.

Re: The Man of Steel

The 77 Superman theme and that intro credits is still to this day one of the best ever made...IMHO...we shall see what happens with this one

Re: The Man of Steel

You saying you didnt like the TDK trilogy soundtrack?

I thought the "theme" if you can call it that was decent. But when compared to the rest of Zimmer's stuff, it gets lost as a LOT of it is either similar or blatantly borrowed from the rest of his body of work.

There's no way the opening on this new one can match that. Every time I watch Superman The Movie the sound gets cranked up for the opening. Superman is my favorite movie theme.

Zimmerman reminds me of James Horner during the 80's and 90's. He re-used his own themes alot. You could listen to Aliens, Star Trek 2, Willow and Rocketeer and you will hear many of the same music cues.

I could see that a little bit...but it was an unforgettable and enjoyable powerful soundtrack ...to me anyway

Couldn't agree with you more. Although I like Zimmerman and Horner they do tend to recycle certain queues and themes throughout most of their scores. However, the same can be said for almost every film composer, from Max Steiner to Michael Giacchino.

Either way it'll be near impossible to top the iconic theme of the 78 Superman.

It's definitely unique when compared to every other Superhero film theme except Green Lantern (which the reason is obvious). A shame Superman will likely fall into that same rut. :(

Re: The Man of Steel

In a sense Zimmerman was a fool to take the job. The option of honoring the old credits and playing the Superman march was taken off the table by the fanboi aneurysms following Superman Returns.

I actually do worry and Hope the MoS soundtrack to be unforgettable...The Marvel films thinking about it dont really do it for me, although they were pretty good flicks(most of them)......believe it or not I think of ACDC when I think of Marvel films...DC films IMHO had the better music

I dunno. The Marvel films were distinct. Iron Man had the crunch guitars, Cap has the epic "western" theme, Hulk has the heavy cellos and I used to think Thor was pretty unforgettable but Earth to Asgard is pretty damn awesome. The Avengers theme on the other hand is canned superhero. :lol But nontheless, they're all different.

But with Green Lantern sounding extremely similar to Batman, I'm worried Superman will follow suit. A shame since William's epic Superman score and Elfman's Batman couldn't be more different and unique from one another.

Re: The Man of Steel

Why do you guys keep calling him zimmerman? What am I missing?:dunno
