Re: The Man of Steel

First TV spot is cliff notes version of the trailer :lol

Have you actually seen a tv spot on the television or just found it online? I've said it before but I can't believe there's so little about this movie. Maybe it's just because I desperately wanna see more. :lol

Re: The Man of Steel

If I was Superman I would fly into the courtroom of the Jodi Arias trial and shoot my laser beam thru her skull and send everyone home so that everyones tax money would stop being wasted on this nonsense. :lol

Now that's a superhero put to good use. :lol

Not that rescuing lolcats out of trees is also not important. :lol

That sounds like a job for Karl Pilkington's Bull**** Man.

Re: The Man of Steel

So what you're saying is that it should not take itself seriously?

just say, "we're making a new Superman movie where the hero is grappling with what it means to be "good" in a world that is reacting to his superhuman existence".

As long as you don't mock and respect the source material and audience and take the world you've created in a serious manner there shouldn't be any problems.

Also, as lame as those penguins were (sorry Stan Winston), those controlled Penguins were "grounded" in that movies' reality. A reality where those freak gangs could hijack a Batmobile or where armor plating appears from under the vehicles' chassis.

They have those caps imbedded into their brains, they're basically controlled kamikazes to blow up the city since the Penguin's plan of killing off children (serious subject matter) failed. All the Penguin did was strap that equipment on them and they're controlled to walk into the area as drones.

It's not winking to the audience 24/7 like Batman and Robin or some other corny, brainless superhero movies out there. I think it's pretty good about respecting the audience's intelligence and being somewhat faithful to the source material. It also never undermines or makes Batman look like a hokey, joking wuss.

As long as Man of Steel takes Superman and the world they've created seriously, who cares.

You could include Bizarro or Mr. Mxyzptlk like mind controlled Penguins and as long as it had substance, wasn't joking with cheese in every scene and had some depth to it, it wouldn't matter.

Do they really need to constantly say "this is grounded in reality", "this is serious business", "this is dark, solemn subject matter" for Superman? Nope.

Avengers wasn't bogged down or advertised with those sort of quotes and look how that turned out.

Re: The Man of Steel

So, the issue with the 'grounded in reality' tag is that it's pretentious and unnecessary, because any good movie should be grounded enough in its own reality that it's convincing?

Re: The Man of Steel

TDK was grounded in its own reality perfectly, no more, no fuss.

If you don't believe that then slide off a high rise with someone dressed in armor and cape and land on a car unscathed.

Good luck with that ok. :lol

Clean up on aisle 10.:lol

I've been summoned to Warner Brothers in Burbank next Tuesday night. It's probably just to take a look at the WB water tower.:dunno:monkey1
