He has been one of my favorite actors for a while. Every part he plays in movies he steals the show, even small minor roles. He was great in revolutionary road, 8 mile, the iceman, runaways (which is an otherwise terrible movie), premium rush, Take shelter and boardwalk empire. Other smaller roles where he stole scenes include bad boys 2, groundhogs day, and Jonah Hex.

:clap

He's also great in his small tole in MUD

Re: The Man of Steel

But you CAN have Lex selling anti-superman weapons to the army....
and to gangs.

you can have lex doing a GREAT DEAL behind the scenes.
I'm even ok with going with Metallo... and having metallo lead into an eventual super-suit lex as the END of a Lex arc.

Spacy was an Amazing, if poorly written Lex.

But Best Lex is best.

Well written, Well acted. Properly portrayed as "the man behind the curtain", and He even moonlights as the flash.
Give me THAT sort of Lex, and I will be very very happy.

Rosenbaums performance of Luthor was gold!!! :rock:rock:rock

Luthor is the villian of the story in the Superman mythos, used well i think it will be epic. A good idea would be him working with someone. For Example, My vision if Man of Steel 2 would be, Luthor gets ahold of Zods battle suit, tries to experiment and wants to use it as his powersuit, somehow he teams up with Braniac for the Technology and power, Attempting to use eachother as Pawns in a doublecross.

Rosenbaum's Lex is second to none, IMO. From S1 - S7 (basically his entire run on the show), he never missed the mark. To see what he did for character and to watch how he evolved (and to much credit of the writers, as well) was just amazing. I have S7 in the DVD player as we speak. Seeing his performances never get old. I can't praise his time on the show enough. In many ways, he made that show.

...Spacey was an Amazing, if poorly written Lex.
I like Spacey as an actor but he was written and acted way too campy. Really, really sick of campy Hackman/Spacey Luthor. Have never seen Smallville but it seems their take on Lex was more serious.

You need to get on that. Rosenbaum steals the show. Even if you only watch the first season, definitely give it try.

Re: The Man of Steel

Both Lex and Green Arrow made the show IMO.

I liked Hartley as Green Arrow. I think he definitely helped pave the way for the new series. I was kind of bummed to see that he didn't headline the new series, but Amell is more than worthy of a successor, after seeing what he's done on Arrow.

Re: The Man of Steel

Actually THAT'S 100% False! There's plenty of photos on the internet that clearly show Christopher Nolan on-set for Man of Steel.

Henry Cavill is coming to Jersey for the premiere over there. It is a neighbouring island to where I live and only a ten minute plane ride away.

Very cool of him to go back to the place of his birth like that. Hope to score tickets if possible.

Re: The Man of Steel

Irish,
will you be part of the publicity crew that travel to foreign countries for premieres?
Paris maybe :)

I wish! But they're keeping me grounded here in the States for this one. :( I'll be at the premiere in L.A., and then "Superman Celebration" in Metropolis,
Illinois, then HeroesCon in Charlotte,
NC, then something in NYC. And though the film will have been out over a month I hear we're doing something at SDCC, too.

But I'm definitely gonna lobby for the Europe gig next time! :hi5:

Re: The Man of Steel

...Take shelter...

He was brilliant in this quirky and unusual little movie. I saw it recently on our satellite movie channels here in the UK and recorded it on the strength that Shannon was in it.

I was not disappointed either. I like these smaller, more personal movies. It makes for a real breath of fresh air after all the popcorn blowouts I usually see.

Ah, excellent. I did not know this, because I watch the Idiot Box very little.

It Really, REALLY was. It's fantastic to see his slow descent into "evil" that they potray in the series. in the b egenning, Lex is, for the most part, a good kid, trying to come out from under the shadow of his manipulative as hell, Twisted father Lionel Luthor. You can see Lex WANTS to be a "good guy" but constantly has Lionel whispering into his ear, and even doing everything he can to undermine Lex.. in order to show and teach him that "he's better" than everyone else by nature of being a Luthor. His constant betrayals from his father makes him suspicious of everyone... even of Clark, who literaly becomes his best friend for a while.. Though lex is convinced he's hiding something... even Lying to him. His nature, encouraged by his father, slowly leads lex down a path where he starts to belive that the ends justify the means... and he becomes darker... and darker... until it's far, FAR too late

Speaking of characters, several DC mainstays show up in the show. mostly b-listers. and it takes SEVERAL liberties with the series. but it does so in a way that preserves the CORE of the superman mythos.

The first season is VERY campy, but it's saved ( in my opinion, by Rosenbaum as lex) The second Season is less campy. and the third is even more serious.

cameo characters from the DC universe who pop up

Cyborg
Flash
Lois lane ( Duh)
Aqua Man
Green Arrow ( first costumed hero that shows up, GREAT job with him too)
LEgion of Super Heroes
Braniac
Supergirl
Zod
Darksied
BIzzarro
Hawkman ( played by Michael Shanks )

the list goes on. Pretty sure smallville is on netflix, give it a chance, and stick with it.
You will not be dissapointed. My challenge to you is to TRY to stick with it untill supergirl shows up. It gets MUCH BETTER before then, but at that point, it starts increasing in quality by leaps and bounds.

and also... Lana lang is annoying.

Speaking of Lana Lang... Remember Lana Lang in the Reeve superman movies?

Guess who plays Martha Kent?
Smallville-10.jpg

the series is FULL of little nods like that...

Professor Swann for example..

Another great character on Smallville?

The incredably elusive Astrophysicist Professor Swan, who only makes an actual appearence in three episodes, but his presence is felt, and is mentioned from time to time. Great character, and the actor did tremendous with the roll. Here's a few pictures of him from the episode

and a picture of him with Tom Welling, the show's Clark kent/Kal-el/superman

Smallville is a show that improves with each season, the story getting better and better as it goes on. the first season is HARD to watch, but it's important for the overall story. once it gets going, it slowly becomes GREAT. It's a fantastic take on superman, and shows how and why he's as Human, and compassitione as he becomes.
Quite honestly, it's my personal favorite take on Superman.
