Re: The Man of Steel

Why haven't any of theses comic book movies like Dark Knight, Avengers, Man of Steel, etc. had burger/fast food promotions tied to them? That seemed to stop after 2001 or so. It was really big in the 80s and 90s.

I remember that's the only time I'd really go to the fast food joints was if they had some cool promotion thing to nab like Batman collectors glasses or cool little Star Wars or Lord of the Rings stuff. I still have all 6 of those character specific Batman Forever frosted glass mugs.

Maybe it's because they're no longer trying to market these films to kids. That's what it seems like.

^ This.

The Nolan Batman films certainly were not aimed towards kids.

This film seems to be a bit more universal from everything seen so far. Serious, but not really dark.

Re: The Man of Steel

I would weigh another 100lbs if they did. :lol

Wut

So you currently weigh only 100 pounds? :horror

Kids could enjoy the Nolan Batman flicks, Begins was harmless. None of the Batflicks were really "aimed" towards kids except Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.

And Avengers didn't get jack and there's something there for everyone with it's colorful heroes.

Get kids in on everything I say, unless it's sex and drugs.

Re: The Man of Steel

Oh sure they could enjoy the Nolan films but that wasn't the target audience so to speak.

For BF and B&R it most certainly was. Batman and BR were darker but they carried plenty of kid marketing because back then superhero films weren't viewed as something adults should legitimately enjoy all that much. More like a guilty pleasure.

Avengers should have had all manner of kiddy marketing though.

Re: The Man of Steel

The target audience should be everyone for any comic book superhero movie in my opinion.

Get girls into it, get boys into it, kids, adults, old, young, etc. Show trailers at MTV, have fast food tie ins, etc. etc. Yeah, you'll get parents that will complain and have a fit, like they did with Batman Returns and it's dark tone, but **** em. That gives the film publicity and kids will want to see something they're told they can't.

Man, I can imagine how I'd act if The Dark Knight came out when I was a kid, especially with a Joker themed film. I wouldn't be that much different than I was as an adult. TOYS? DO WANT. WHERE DA WHY SO SERIOUS FAST FOOD PROMOTIONS AT? :lol

Re: The Man of Steel

Burger King should've had a Catwoman betrayal sewer diorama kids meal.

I haz both agreez and disagreez

A character like Batman is so universal you can adapt him for any audience - like Nolan did for a little older audience, but at the same time its freakin Batman - everyone gotta i can haz for dat

I can haz

Re: The Man of Steel

Da kids like dark stuff, a movie called "the Dark Knight" is perfect. Slap a little wind-up Batpod in their hands and some fries and that'll shut em up.

I saw Terminator when I was a young boi and I turned out just fine. I think.

Re: The Man of Steel

U saw more promotions in the past because fast food business was doing better in the 80s. With all the bad PR and people becoming more health consious, revenues are way down. The licensing fees used to justify the increase in sales, but now it results in larger losses. Let's face it, a lot of parents do not like feeding their children fast food because its bad for them and can start bad eating habits. These same parents are not gonna go to McDonald's just to get a "free" toy for their kids when they have no intention of feeding the food to them. Its just a waste of time and money for both McDonalds, who knows this, and the people who will never go thru the trouble to drive to McDonald's just for a chinsy toy. Collectors like us might but we are a small minority that wont produce enough revenue to justify the costs associated with the license or promotion. Back in the day when more people ate fast food, revunes were booming and the cost was worth it because the toy added percieved value that would, in many cases, be the deciding factor at what fast food resturaunt parents took their kids to eat at. They don't spend as much on advertising, which these toys are, because the industry on the whole is hurting big time.

This man makes sense.

What is he doing here?

Re: The Man of Steel

Revenues are down because people are getting soft. I don't remember over concerned parents ruining this **** in the 80s and 90s. They tried, but never succeeded.

Fast food joints when I was a kid was never about the food, it was about the toys and that damn play place with the tunnels and the ball pit and the slide. You didn't go to Chuck E. Cheese for the ****ty pizza, you went to play for hours at the game zone (Ninja Turtles and Ski ball) to get tickets and get some honey's numbers in the tunnels above the joint.

This is actual footage of an Avengers screening.
