Holy nitpicking batman!.. how is a chick saying he is hot bad comedy. I am sure a lot of chicks would say the same thing. Maybe it wasn't supposed to be slap stick funny, just a military chick acting like a school girl after seeing a hot guy, do amazing stuff and gets caught acting like that by her CO. IMO Her response to him seemed quite natural giving the circumstances. Superman is like every womans dream guy so I would expect them to act silly around him. As long as they don't go over the top with this, it shouldn't be a problem.

Is it too much to ask that we get more of this out of our female characters in film and other media,

as opposed to generally getting this?

By that, I mean characters with actual depth and character development, as opposed to just being eyecandy with daddie issues?

You're not getting Ripley now; if anything, the portrayal of women in films seems to be regressing. Ripley was a comet shooting across the heavens; now she's gone and the screen is that much darker.

With that said, looking forward to MoS. Iron Man 3 was pretty good, I liked it... but it wasn't exactly what I wanted to see. I am hoping MoS will be more of what I am looking for.

ALIEN never was about the portrayal of women since they changed gender of the character at the last minute
ALIENS followed the story of the character, nothing feminine about it either.

Just another exception that proves the rule.

Not at the last minute. Unless you're talking about the last minute before the script was approved.

Ridley intended on Ripley being a woman since the casting. He went looking for a woman to play the part.

And Aliens...not feminine? Uh...all the men died, the only characters left standing at the end are Ripley, The Queen, and Newt. It's a story with themes about family, and doing whatever it takes save them.

Even the Aliens get that kind of treatment.

2. Never cared about the feminine aspect of finale, it was done too well and natural

Face it. The Alien series is a series that has themes that deal with female empowerment. That's why it's so great. It's different from any other film series for that reason alone.

After that "series" gone full 20CFox and quickly killed itself.

I disagree. Alien 3 is great. But that's neither here nor there. The series' core of female empowerment.

Alien 3 grows on you; its just that the shock of Hicks, Newt AND Bishop being dead in the first five minutes was a lot for people to get past. This was before the age of Internet spoilers everywhere and I remember sitting in the theatre in total shock. It quite ruined the movie for me. I really nearly cried.

Now, it plays better. But Alien: Resurrection.... don't get me started on that PoS. That was a wasted opportunity right there....

Back to MoS! Maybe Faora will kick all kinds of @ss and forget to take names, and bring luster to the idea of strong female characters in sci-fi once again. If that really was her tearing that fighter jet to pieces in the "Fate of your planet" trailer, I am interested to see what she does next. Women don't get to wield real power in sci-fi much, but one can hope.
