Re: The Man of Steel

... and that's why such silly stuff is soooo out of place.

It's one comment, and it hardly comes across as silly. She wasn't wearing a Groucho Marx costume, it's not ***** on Devastator. It looks like just an innocuous comment. As long as they don't put a 3 Stooges routine in the middle of the film, it's ok. There were light moments in all 3 of TDK Trilogy. I found the whole Selina stealing Bruce's car bit to be silly. Especially as she does it posing as his wife. The guy is a notorious bachelor. Unless that valet has lived under a rock and was nursed on a lead bottle, that's a small detail he should know. But it doesn't ruin the film. This line is pretty throwaway IMO. Again, I don't mind the light moments, as long as they don't devolve into silliness, and ruin the tone. This one doesn't. but that's just me.

Re: The Man of Steel

Yea, it's too bad, I did like Tom Welling in Smallville.

Agree. it was one of the better "original takes" on the mythos, once it found its pacing and story.

Smallville is Amazing, it's Better than Burton's batman.

Smallville is Amazing, it's Better than Burton's batman. I have NO hope for this current movie

Wow.. not sure i'd go that far, but if you say so.

Just saw that last tv spot.

That woman soldier wants Superman's D.

Wheee.. sexisim is still funny right guys? She's horny 'cause she's an army girl.

Ugh.

It shouldn't shock anyone to learn that the line is leftover from the original draft by David Goyer. :lol

Seriously, though, it was full of stuff like that and way too many fanboy references. Most were stripped out, but this one is still there. It's not too bad in the context of the film itself, though.

yup, not suprising.

Is it too much to ask that we get more of this out of our female characters in film and other media,

as opposed to generaly getting this?

By that, I mean characters with actual depth and character development, as opposed to just being eyecandy with daddie issues?

Re: The Man of Steel

What if...what if....Just what if....this movie sucks? lol

Are we way overhyping this movie?

Are the hardcore fanboys going to get pissed when half the movie doesn't actually have Superman in his suit doing his thing? Like those who complained there was not enough IronMan? Or not enough Batman in Rises? lol

What if I end up enjoying Star Trek more than this movie?

I'm not sure I like the super serious, approach the comic movies are taking now. I tend to favor the balance of what they achieved with The Avengers.
But we will see.

Lets hope this movie is awesome!

Don't get mad at them, get mad at Goyer.

Agree. to this date, Avengers has been teh BEST comic book film made. it had just the right balance of serious, super powers, and humor. it just REALLY worked.
I think that's partly what i disliked about Iron Man 3.

so if the superman movie sucks?
Then warner will have simply confirmed they can't make a good moive aobut any of their properties OTHER than batman.. and need to get their damn figers out of the pie, and let someone who gets the material work.

As PERFECT as watchmen was, I'm expecting snyder will make this work.

Don't get mad at them, get mad at Goyer.

Oh don't misunderstand, that is directly where I'm directing my Ire.

Eye candy is relative.

I lost my breath just posting this pic.

Re: The Man of Steel

Lets be fair here.

New timeline Kirk IS eye candy to some people. but he's ALSO more than that.
He's got some character development. he has Some character period. we see him have a personality. he has reactions to things.

The pretty blonde girl... was a pretty blonde girl.
She was.... kinda a scientist. sorta. she had minimal lines, and was mostly there JUST to pose sexualy in her underwear, as well as a sex object for kirk to lust after. As well as to be torutured to get kirk to do what Benedict wanted. In essence, She was little more than a Prop for kirk to react to.

Oh.. right.. and to get slapped for back-talking a man.

She's a female sterotype, and a pretty bad one.

Compare her character in Into Darkness, to the version of her we got in Wrath of Khan, and I think you'll see what i mean

Uhura suffered from this as well, though to a lesser degree. She was little more than something for spock to react to this time around. A sounding board to make mr emotionless more relateable.

it's really.. REALLY sad to me that these writers don't know how to write good female characters.

Re: The Man of Steel

It's not really that bad a line even in the context of the trailer. We have all hheard far worse(looking at you romantic dialogue from Attack of the Clones). It honestly doesn't bother me at all. Everything else about this looks awesome. A little levity never hurt anything, plus it looks as though this will have a serious tone overall, so I can accept that.

You can't make a summer blockbuster without any kind of comedy. That would be horrible. Every big summer movie needs big laughs.

I know I'm going to regret this, but what character development does New Kirk have? In ST09 he is a rebellious punk with daddy issues. Not really a leader of any kind, who's one defing character trait other than being rebellious is he loves the ladies.

Flashforward to STID, and Kirk is still a rebellious punk with daddy issues, shows no leadership qualities, and is still a lover of the ladies. His character has not grown at all. He's exactly where he was when the first film ended.

Re: The Man of Steel

the key word in my post there is and was "some" :lol

not a lot, but a tiny tiny bit. his only real growth in the first film is he went from a rebellious punk to someone who took on SOME responsability, and started to care about people other than himself.
He remains a Punk, but he becomes a party guy/punk kid/fratboy who shows he cares for his extended family.

in two he is where we left him, still happy-go-lucky, still a fratboy, but still cares about his extended family ( disobeys prime directive to save spock)

by the end of the film, he SEEMS to have grown more, and begun to take his responsability more seriously ( granted, he ALSO DIRECTLY TELLS THE AUIDENCE this. and a film should show, not tell, but I digress) and has quasi-grown a little bit. he's effectively gone from the just initiated frat-boy, to the Fraternity alumnist. The growth is minimal, but it's there.

we essentialy see Van Wilder turn into Barney Stinson.

Yes, at his core, this kirk is little more than a charactachure of Classic Kirk, but he at the VERY LEAST has that.

Don't confuse comedy with funny character moment(s).
Pointless comedy = bad writing/directing.

Re: The Man of Steel

I'm getting that great feeling for Superman again. I love the character, the feeling of Americana is just amazing. Looking forward to the scenes with Pa Kent and the farm.

Re: The Man of Steel

I just hope the film gets me to care about Metropolis.

I couldn't give a crap if residents died in TDKR Gotham ot GL Coast City.
