But is it really that simple and innocent.
Didn't WB lose big on SP/WM/Owl.
Honestly, I'm surprised he was given more chances at all.
By the looks of it, i'm happy that he was.
Money, money, money.
My god I think I've seen the whole movie now
You wanna know the "secret" behind SUCKER PUNCH? It was just a hodgepodge of different ideas and images Zack had in his head for years and had to get out of his system. An opportunity arose at the right time and WB was willing to pay the tab while letting him play in his own sandbox. He also needed it to decompress after WATCHMEN, which was intense from start to finish. Whether you like the movie or hate it, SP may ironically go down as the movie that reset his filmmaking batteries and set him on a career trajectory that now has the potential to be quite huge.
Zack Snyder is a solid director with an eye for action, and style. IMO the perfect director for a Superman film. People want to see Superman do Super things, and it definately looks like we got it, finally.
DOTD, The only horror/zombie movie I like, and I hate the genre.
300, My fav ZS film, soon to be 2nd.
Watchmen, Never read the GN, but enjoyed the movie nontheless.
Sucker Punch, No interest in seeing this one.
I for one can't wait to see MOS several times, and hope Snyder gets all the credit he deserves.
Can't wait to get the MOS soundtrack from Amazon, and rock it while waiting for the screen to go black on the 14th.![]()
That exactly what i tought.
He had stuff he wanted to see on screen for years from heavy metal and other adult gn and built a story around that.
One thing surprises me tho, how come after Watchmen and Sp, Warner still believed in him. Usually studios drop directors right on the spot so that got me really wondering. Is it a money thing, because his movies dont cost that much and always make the money back or there is a special relation?
It's both. WB (and especially Legendary) believe in Zack and that he has true skills as a director and potential to make huge movies for years. But he also brings everything in on time and within or under budget, which is just as rare.
But it's also a bit if a misnomer that these movies were flops, especially WATCHMEN, which was technically in the green even before the DVD release (and WB sunk even more money into it after that... if it were a dud that would never have happened. WATCHMEN was always going to be a tough sale, and everyone knew it. A dark,
rated R (and a hard R at that) superhero movie with concepts completely at odds with what average filmgoers expect? When you think about it it's a minor miracle the movie didn't actually flop. But it was never going to do TDK or Marvel movie numbers.
I think WB knew what SUCKER PUNCH was and just took a flier on it as a gesture that they're in with Legendary and Cruel and Unusual Films for the long haul. It also wasn't an enormously expensive movie and has a bit of an interesting small cult following.
Now if MAN OF STEEL opens and flops that would be a much different kettle of fish, especially since WB obviously believes in it enough to completely double down (make that quadruple down) with the marketing. I already know the movie is awesome, but it's that aspect that will be most interesting to see. The potential is there for a massive commercial hit, but it's no given and still a bit of an unknown.
