Sarah Palin is only famous because Tina Fey made fun of her on TV constantly, and gave her world publicity. she has a reality show on TV now, her daughter is on dancing with the stars. l dont know what makes her a star. l think its because she is a teen mom and people look up to her because of that. l guess she was to dumb to take my advise in my signature, and the guy who knocked her up might be getting a reality show.

why people are fascinated with dumb people is beyond me. plus Sarah Palins high pitched redneck voice gives me a headache.

I would think someone commenting on how stupid people were would be able to spell better and use punctuation. You know the old glass houses thing. Whether or not she is stupid is debatable, but I bet she's worth a lot more money then most if not all members on this board. Most self made rich people didn't get that way from being stupid. Whether she is stupid or not, she promotes the image of being an anti-intellectual, anti-Ivy League, anti-Aristocratic establishmentarian who doesn't read or have a nuanced understanding of policy issues, etc. That's part of the appeal of candidates of her ilk. They sell their ideology and populism at the expense of everything else. I figure she's fair game when she sells that image. But of course, everyone wants to have their cake and eat it, too. I think the sequence actually progressed opposite to how you describe it, but whatever.

Being anti-Ivy League is not coextensive with being stupid. And as far as populism goes, when you have the Ivy leaguers backing every union under the sun, and positioning themselves against corporations in the name of workers and small businesses, who's the real populist? What I'm seeing (and I'm no fan of Palin) are people running for office who have worked for a living, and are not professional bull____ artists, speaking plainly because they know nothing else.

And I don't know why you are associating the Ivy League politicians with the left. They're on both sides of the aisle. Most of them are lawyers (I think you are confusing Ivy League politicians with Ivy League academics). And there are populist politicians on the left and right, and have been for eons (Huey Long pretty much defining the term). It isn't what they do. It is how they do it.

I didn't specify left or right. But, ok. Populism is stylistic.

I thought the commoners wanted big government with lots of benefits. How would Palin's approach resonate with such people? Because she sounds dumb like them? Her delivery style is just more political shilling?
