...would you give all the days, from that day to this...OOps. That's not what I mean :lol

Many years from now (lets say 50 years) will your collection be passed on down to your kids? I mean, those that do collect for a lifetime.

Point I'm making is certain pieces are worth a mint now and you will have paid a premium for it. Take Doom PF, you might have paid $1000+ for it or Sentinel #1 Dio $1500+

I see antique statues on TV going in auctions and making just $50 and a stupid 20 year old vase going for $3000. Who could know?

Lets take Cap PF.
Is he an antique in 50 years and is his spandex gonna hold up?:rotfl
I display all my figures so I don't want their oneses getting crotch rot.:lol

What if Marvel are no longer around in 20-30 years time and all our statues are worth no more than Scrap Polystone?

Hows that gonna make you feel? Bothered or not?

I collect for the fun and I really like the Marvel line and I just like owning my pieces but it would be nice to hang on to them and be able to pass them on knowing you're maybe leaving someone close to you a bit of valuable-ish art.

So, in 50 years will they be art or junk? :chew

I think probably Junk unfortunately. :banghead

I guess it comes down to perception of what people find valuable. If you can't find your favourite Marvel character in the pose that you have always dreamed and someone comes along and produces one to your standard you would drop a portion of your bank account to get that dream.

People collect for a profit but I think most people collect because they love a movie or a comic or whatever. I'm sure when Andy Wahol started painting most people didn't buy his work or give him the time of day it wasn't until people saw the value in his work did they start to fork over there $'s to own a piece of history.

Or just really liked his art. Different strokes different folks.

I'm not bothered about the value of my collection or though I do question my motives and reasons of why I like one piece over another.

I know some of the pieces I have will cost less than what I bought them. I have a pile of Medicom Kubricks that I loved but will be selling them all because I now have found SS and Hot Toys which produces awesome figures of some of my all time favourites.

My point is right now I will derive pleasure from looking at the art work and the sculpt of the figures and that is just what I want right now. In a few years I might sell some of them and not get what I paid for but that is ok I'm not in this for the money. I see them as art and a way of connecting with some of my favourite films.

Meh, Some of you think way too highly of your collection. Jesus, they're material possesions. Enjoy them now! In 50 years i could care less what happens to them. If i still have them i still have them, if i don't i don't.

Sure it would be nice if my daughter got my stuff, if not so be it. Actually in 50 years i will probably be thinking of what a ******* i was spending all this $ on ^^^^ i didn't really need :)

Enjoy them now and don't worry or even care about where your stuff will be 50 years from now.

I agree with this post...value is caca.

I don't think these things will be worth much at all in the long run. As great as we think these things are now, something better will come around (it always does), and these will be considered kitschy artifacts of a more innocent time.

in 2012 is the tide rising or is there going to a big rock hitting the earth.so when we get to that period folks i implore you to smash your statues into a millions pieces..then when we find out it's just a orson welles joke..you guys will be hunting me down for taking my advise..but to me my collectibles are momentary thoughts of grandeur. they can be replaced..but my cat is really priceless.so if in 20yrs if i am still around and my 12 inch collection of 1500 pieces goes for $100 dollars. i hope i am comatosed.

I'm going to catalog how much my collection is worth and as I end up in my twilight years, ready for the reaper, I'm going to send that total to my kids saying they can inherit it and do with it what they want, and on that same day I'm going to take a hammer and smash the hell out of everything leaving the displays intact only filled with dust and parts instead of the actual pieces. Why? Simple, there can be only one.

Hi!

this is a perfect case of not thinking ahead. What I mean is that I get them because it gives me a lot of pleasure collecting them. I like to look at them and being a movie fanatic, it is great to have an iconic character that represents a piece of history. Like women love jewelery and some people like to collect cars at Barret Jackson, we like to collect statues.

Now, I know that my son is not into it as much as I am and he says that one day he wants some of my statues but if he wants to sell them to get some money for another things, that's up to him. I don't think they will be worth 3 or 4 times more in 30 years because the market will be saturated with statues, but who knows.....I don't really think about it

But we always have to be careful on how much money we spend. I don't want to spend $2500 on a CM Predator and not have enough money to take the family to Disneyland. Some people here in this forum get 2 of everything or buy almost every piece that comes out and if you have enough money to spare, good for you. I don't so I have to be very selective of what I can or cannot buy.

At the end of the day, I love collecting, I still save enough money to take the family on trips and out for dinner. Don't think too much ahead or you are going to start to feel guilty...... just enjoy it

Cheers

Bear

And when Colossus runs out of room, feel free to reroute any and all of your collection to my place and I will watch over it. I plan on being around for a while, so your collection will be safe. :lol

50 years = dead, so who cares.
for me anyways

Yup, same here (or close to it). I am actually more interested in passing my comics down to my kids once they get to the right age...my comics I have had since I was in 6th grade and I hope my kids enjoy reading them as much as I did/do. I know it was a blast watching my four year old play with my 30 year old Star Wars toys.
