Hmm. I never thought Spider-Gwen and Silk would have almost the same base. Sideshow used to be about risk and making something new that others weren't making in the old days. This Silk is similar to another company's version. And I'll give it to Sideshow that their Silk has a better unmasked portrait. But I would go with the already released version if I wanted a Silk statue. That version goes well with Sideshow's Spider-Man on wall statue.

Silk looks great!

I'm really not liking Spidey in this line, but I'm totally in for both Silk and Spider-Gwen.

I'm actually glad that SS used similar bases on this line, to many times in the past SS would use completely different bases on the same line of statues, take X-Men some were environment bases others were just a big X base... The statues look horrible together because of that.. I think Gwen and Silk's bases look great, not to sure about Spider-Mans though...

What company has made a silk statue? I'm guessing it must be a custom one as I don't know of any legit company making her, correct me if I'm wrong..

As for SS taking risks in the past, I really don't remember that, with gazillion Hulks, Captain Americas and Iron Man's I'm not sure what your referring to...

Diamond Select has one in their Marvel Gallery line:

I'd put the spidey in my guest bathroom with some fine soaps in the soap dish base

Is this like Gwen where the masked version is the Ex? It's so bizarre to me that they are doing that.

Here is the Silk statue I was referring to:

I just remember the days of getting into Sideshow statues and it seemed like they were bringing out statues that just weren't being made or they were smaller scale. Also characters that you could only get as small action figures.

I get that they have to make a Spider-Gwen. Sideshow is a business and Spider-Gwen is popular and will sell. But many of their recent releases to me just come off as let's make our version now that other companies have made their versions and are proven to be popular. I'm talking about statues like their new Magneto, Wolverine, Phoenix, Campbell Fairytales, and other recent pieces. Companies like Prime 1 and XM Studios are the ones I look to now for things that haven't been done and more risky projects.

I just want to see more risk from a company that can afford to take risks. How about instead of yet another Spider-Man statue and an average one at that. Make a character like the Miles Morales Spider-Man that I believe doesn't have a large scale statue. And I think he has a bunch of stories with Spider-Gwen. Or even have Mark Brooks design a Spider Girls line with all the female characters with Spider Powers. Then make bases that do more than complement each other like these simple web with signs bases. Sideshow and others like Koto did that in the past with the damaged Sentinel bases.

So true. SSC needs to take more risks. They need to get a better feel of which characters the collectors want ...or what the masses want.

The Aspen line is a good start. Then the JSC Fantasy collection is a great follow up. But they need to start looking into other characters in the DC and Marvel universe. There are so many characters they haven't done yet.

XM has found out the hard way that C and D list characters don't sell well, the majority of their Spider-Man Rogue statues have been a hard sell... You can easily find most of them for below retail now.... The problem is lack of display space for most collectors, do you want the big name statue taking up the space or a D list character hardly anyone knows... Now those who live in warehouses it's not an issue... :)

I think its the total price more than anything that makes the C and D list characters a hard sell for XM. The characters are fine and the sculpts are superb, but the retail price + the middle man fees + shipping fee just makes the cost too high for these C and D list characters.
