What are people's opinions on doing this? Is it generally safe? How many of you have done this before?

Thanks for the help freaks!

are you talking about shipping as gift or paying buy paypal as gift. shipping as gift almost everyone sends items as gifts. every 1/6 item l have got are marked as gift as well as PFs. saves you the buyer money. though l have seen sellers on ebay say they do not do that because if they get caught there can be a law suit from the shipping company. but everyone does it and shipping companies do not care. but l did here ups checks and investigates items marked as gift because they are crooks and will try and bust someone any chance they get, not sure how true that is but l would not dought it. if l buy something from the states l want it marked as gift or else l wont but it. it must also be shipped through usps. paying through paypal as gift is risky for the buyer because if something happens paypal wont help you since it was gift and not goods.

JUST SAY NO!

Unless you're sending money to a friend or family member, or willing to give that money away, no strings attached, don't do it. I don't care how long you've known your "internet friends." You can't get the money back from PayPal and should something go wonky during the transaction, you're at the good graces of the seller to get a refund. Also an interesting FYI. On occasion PayPal charges for you to gift money. So while the seller gets no fees taken out, you might even wind up paying more. Especially if the transaction goes south. Bottom line, it should tell you everything you need to know about someone who's too cheap to pay itty bitty PayPal fees to insure the buyer's security and protection during a transaction. ;)

yes paying as gift is pointless sometimes. if you pay as gift and have the money on your paypal account you do not pay any fees and the seller does not have to pay any fess. but if you are paying threw paypal with visa and send money as gift you have to pay the fees, and if you pay as goods, the seller has to pay the fees, but the seller will tell you to add 2% more so you are then paying the fees.

You are just as much responsible as anyone else. It takes two and sometimes three or more to tango.

i didn't initiate the conflict jen, and i'm not one to stand by while someone berates and insults me. i'm not a child and far from a wimp. i also feel that if a mod wanted to properly deal with the problem, it should have been taken to pms.

If someone is harassing/insulting you - then let a mod know and they can deal with it. if you decide to insult back and continue to carry on this type of banter, well then both parties are held equally accountable.

Jen don't talk to me that way. :tap

I honestly believe that the whole law against marking something as a gift when it isn't has more to do with mailing illegal items. I once had an item seized by customs in the UK because it was illegal there. Nothing ever happened beyond that. I didn't know the item was illegal when I sent it. It was a prop replica sword cane from Dracula, but it was considered a concealed weapon.:slap
