The thing is, and you basically say it right in this post, is that any IN STORY reason [excuse] given as to why Bucky wasn't "ready" for the shield is just that - an excuse. The OUTSIDE reason was blatantly obvious, and it had nothing to do with character development or the story or whether or not Bucky was "ready" (which really would've made Bucky taking the shield all the more compelling IN STORY).
I think that's what I'll do- re: youtube good Bucky moments. I know how big a fan you are of these characters and a lot of the issues you list here in regard to how Bucky is handled are things that would just make the viewing experience worse for me. I worried they would nerf him or or have to "lessen" him in some way (like being a charge in hothead - just like, from some reviews I've read and you mention, it seems like they changed Sam to make the story work).
I was waiting until Loki came out to get D+ and then watch all the shows, and now I'm feeling apprehensive about Loki, and how they're going to write/treat the character. He's my favorite, so if he's written poorly in his own series, that will seriously damage the franchise for me going forward. I'm already struggling to have interest in many of the upcoming movies, and a lot of the other series announced aren't anything I'm excited about.
Well, they did. Basically he was embracing lots of humility and the series worked around, or forgot, Bucky's skill set - comic and/or movies, for the most part. It was uneven too; one minute he's nerfed and the next kicking butt.
At the end of the day - IMO given the exact same story, with what we know of the former fist of Hydra, he wouldn't have needed Sam at all, to solve the problem; since what happens IMO is more in his wheelhouse. Also there's some comments about Steve, or other, that didn't go over with the warm and fuzzy feeling I have about Steve Rogers, and how he treated others. I know what they were doing; why they were doing it; but there's things IMO you just don't do.
To be fair, Bucky was given SOME good moments and it's d@mn shame the glimpses of dry humor (probably something Sebastian Stan picked up researching the comics) weren't given more free rein in this series. But, I have the overall impression that the showrunner viewed Bucky as just along for the ride, and another vehicle to lecture at. Actually found myself disliking Falcon off and on, and up to this series he was one of the Holy Trio. This show was very badly misrepresented as to the overall tone in the PR material.
I'm less worried about Loki - another fav of mine; and I will be keeping my Loki HT PO. But I'm gonna take a hard look at who the showrunner and writers are re anything MCU onward, and check on who is behind the Loki series. If Malcom Spellman is behind another MCU project, including anything FWS, I'm gonna pass. But Feige is to blame as he's the head boss.
