Agreed. We all know he's going to come to and pick up the mantle at the end of the show. It just seems a weird arc to have when it's already been done with Spiderman and Tony Stark. But yeah, very disrespectful considering he personally gave the shield to him and said he's the right fit, with Bucky standing right there when we all know it should have been Bucky to pick up the mantle, and who probably needed it to help him recover all of his wrongs. If Bucky doesn't roast Sam for doing it I'll be disappointed.

It?s not disrespectful. It?s totally in character for Falcon. He?s humble. He was taken under Caps wing and does not feel he has earned it.

That?s the whole point of the series obviously. What?s more important is the Government obviously feels he is not worthy either. Likely simply because he is black.

I think it?s a wonderful bold choice of story. It?s doin what Marvel has done for years , which is challenge the prejudices of the time, and use comic book characters to further social issues.

However , I still found Buckys story more compelling. As his story is in a similar vein, however he is trying to live beyond his past, and Falcon is trying to live to his future.

Bucky crossing off his list of previous assassination was heartbreaking. His age and disconnect from current society is tragic to the extreme.

While Cap was surrounded by helpers and well wishers, Bucky is totally alone.

His only connection to this society is by righting the wrong he?s committed over the decades.

Awesome first episode, much better than Wandavisions start.

:exactly:

what was Sam doing before he met Cap.Helping Vets out.He is a humble man.

this was a very good first episode IMO.. some very well done action and some much needed background. And Sam and Bucky have not even got together yet.

Sam maybe humble but he isnt a super soldier, he uses guns and relies on his wings. Take away his guns and wings and he is just like an ordinary dude. How do you expect him to fight with the shield, let alone throw it hard enough to do any damage? Moreover if he keeps the wings wtf is he supposed to do with the shield, he can only take out 1 target at a time with it and once he tosses it from the the sky he would have to land every time to retrieve it or risk losing it for good lol

"My wings was never a distraction or a hobby, it was a cocoon, and now I’m a changed man. You can take away my house, all my tricks and toys, but one thing you can’t take away – I am Falcon Captain America.”

I hope the rest of the show is better than the first episode. I found it a little boring, but I know they need to set things up. Still... too much time with the boat.

Looking forward to the train fight.

That said, this was much better than Wanda.

I'm waiting the 5 or 6 weeks, or however many episodes of this there will before I watch. I'd rather binge watch it all at once.

This isn't like WandaVision where the show is a mystery full of surprises and spoilers will ruin it.

MCU Falcon is not comic falcon all you need to do to beat the mcu version is disable his wings and disarm him. Rewatch Winter soldier, Ant man and civil war for proof of this. He even fawns over cap in winter solider (the scene were cap laps him jogging) because of how strong and fit he is compared to him. It would not be believable at this point in time because of what they have already established with the character, if the MCU was first starting out and this was first time we saw falcon sure but they would have to drastically increase his power level. MCU Bucky would wipe the floor with MCU falcon in a one on one hand fight, hell any mcu character would besides tony stark and even that would be close (see iron man 3)

Being Captain America is not about power levels, it is about the quality of the man who dons the shield.

Nope, its the serum as well. Otherwise scrawny Steve wouldve gotten curb stomped by Red Skull and by a million other bad guys before and after.
Steve needed the muscle to back up his moral positions.

It is disrespectful, at least to a degree. Cap went out of his way to give him specifically the shield. The greatest tactician, most humble and good natured man in America cherry picked Sam, in front of his friend who would have been a good fit, so Sam no matter how humble he is being is disrespecting his decision and his faith, and has let that shield go to a museum and then to a fake Cap... because he is struggling with being humble. I wouldn't be surprised if he handed it over to Mysterio.

I decided to cancel my subscription and will watch the rest of the show whenever I renew for Mandalorian, I'll rewtach the first ep then also - I'm only really interested for Zemo. I'm not really interested in watching Sam's whole arc be I'm not worthy... okay, I'm worthy. The first episode didn't really arrest me to be honest. I feel like we've already gotten this arc with Thor and Peter Parker.

We have very different definitions of disrespect.

Steve needed the muscle to back up his moral positions.

Steve needed his moral positions to back up the muscle he was gifted. That's the whole point of his selection. I thought that was a great message in the First Avenger. They could've made a physically strong man stronger but at the risk of creating a bully. Steve's moral character is the most important ingredient of Captain America...

I agree.
Steves moral character is the most important ingredient.
HOWEVER, it is not the only ingredient.
He is a more compelling hero and character because he wields such strength and stamina granted by the serum with wisdom, courage and grace.
According to the Prof. who created the serum it actually magnifies those traits.Which is fascinating by itself. So the serum didn’t grant JUST strength and stamina.
Pre serum Steve was a nice guy more so than most but he probably would’ve had difficulty hefting the iconic shield let alone throwing it.
Therefore, physical strength tempered by moral strength makes the best possible Captain America/Steve Rogers for story telling and the MCU.

Sam absolutely struggled against Crossbones in TWS, and likely would've lost. Without more gadgetry involved, I don't buy him being able to take on overpowered characters the way Steve or Bucky could.

It's just one more reason of many that the shield should've gone to Bucky. They purposefully had Bucky injected with a form of the super serum in TWS to make him stronger. Teased him holding the shield. TWS (still the BEST Marvel movie, IMO) was heavily influenced by ED Brubaker, creator of Bucky!Cap. Bucky is better leading character material because his character has way more depth and pathos, same for his connection to Steve. He's also very, very different than Steve, and would've had the dramatic material of living up to him while dealing with his own past and desire for atonement. That's pure gold storytelling they threw away - for - and I'm going to be blunt here - woke optics.

I like Sam, I really do. I've liked him since he was introduced. And Mackie is a great actor. But Sam is not main character material the way Bucky Barnes is.

Agree.
Woke Disney studios is following woke Marvel publishing’s lead.
Have you seen the new X-men?
If the MCU goes down that path they can kiss the fans and profits good bye.
