I think things have changed from
"never meet your heroes" to
"never find out how your heroes feel about sensitive subjects" - and if they make their beliefs on those sort of subjects public . . . particularly when done in a less-than-tactful manner . . . they are going to get a backlash from those that do not agree.
Something I found pretty interesting, though a long time ago, was Buffy The Vampire Slayer could have had another season, maybe more. But everyone was waiting on Sarah Michelle Gellar to decide if she wanted to keep going ( There is no show without the title character after all....)
I remember when SMG made her announcement not to return, that Alyson Hannigan said the situation was completely unfair to the people who worked on the show. People with kids, people with mortgages, people more likely to live check to check. IIRC, Hannigan said it would have been better to tell everyone as soon as possible, so they could go and look for different work before all the other shows and productions were filled up with what they needed for their new seasons.
After Michael Mann got massive critical praise with Heat, he did a TV show called Robbery Homicide ( it was actually pretty good) It got cancelled because Tom Sizemore had substance abuse problems and could not be relied upon. There were long time sort of fringe actors in the main cast. Folks who could probably use that regular paycheck, and who knows, if that show ran 4-5-6 seasons, they could have gotten life changing money out of it. Not to mention all the writers, set design people, audio, lighting, catering, etc, etc.
It just looks very callous and entitled for Ruffalo to stir up things more than what is needed.
How hard is it to say,
"We'd like everyone to give this show a chance, we believe it will surprise you and entertain you, but if you don't like it, Kevin Feige and Marvel have put together a really wonderful universe and world building where there is so much to enjoy and we have faith something within the the entire MCU will speak to you and give you joy"
Would that have been so hard?
Yeah, I agree, my friend, never get too far into the viewpoints of actors you typically enjoy. I used to love Robert DeNiro in pretty much everything. Now I just want the guy to go away. Now when I sometimes catch Goodfellas, I'm glad he got snitched on. LOL.
