Back to this movie- I really enjoyed it and easily the best Spidey since 2
Very dense with alot of great moments in it. I didn't mind all the little jokes and thought it was a very creative movie that felt very fresh- nice step away like a typical superhero film. The parts that brought Stark and Avengers stuff in it felt out of place to me- I must be so bored by that same old song and dance:lol

Saw this tonight in 3D with the kiddos. Fun little movie with a lot of really nice moments. Final battle was a bit anticlimactic but otherwise it was solid from beginning to end. I got some genuine vertigo when he was on top of the Washington Monument.

I think they should retire post credit scenes after

that last moment with Cap. They seemed to be poking fun at their own tradition while simultaneously realizing they're pretty played out at this point.

This must've had a huge foreign surge this week. It was only at $480M-ish (worldwide) before this weekend that did $22M. It jumped almost $70M out of nowhere?

I hope so.

Either stick with Holland, or let Spidey rest for decade or so before you bring him back for a solo film.

He's signed on for a 5 movie contract so we should be seeing him for a while. His solo movie is slated to be released after IF2, so I hope that means the rest of his trilogy will be more Spidey-centric, and less about being parts of a bigger puzzle.

Ant-Man 2 Janet Van Dyne. :rock

Nice!

I didn't love a few things like Parker basically having a straight up Iron Man suit for most of the movie, an anticlimactic boss battle and if I remember correctly not one single good guy dying at any point in the movie, whether hero or innocent? That was pretty eye-rolling from a dramatic standpoint. Also while we're talking about "Thumpgate" in the JL thread it's also getting old watching every single flying character stop their flight 2-3 feet above the ground just so they can land with a thud.

However I found both Holland and Keaton to be pitch perfect in their performances. Flash was for the most part weak (though I did crack up at, "Hey that's not Spider-Man it's just Ned in a red shirt!")

My favorite part of the movie BY FAR was

when Keaton met Peter at the door when he arrived to pick up Liz. A fantastic "holy crap" moment that came completely out of the blue. And then watching Keaton effortlessly yet organically deduce Parker's alter ego identity. I just loved the intermingling of his superhero and student lives. Really great job with that and very evocative of classic Spidey.

Also while the action felt light on stakes the visuals were top notch, loved the bright colors and sense of vertigo I mentioned previously. I did find myself chuckling at watching him deal with less than ideal web slinging conditions (the golf course, suburban backyards, etc.) so it was nice to see elements that were relatively new to the many iterations of the character we've seen thus far.

Did you go in Keaton spoiler free?

If so then yeah that was pretty shocking wasn't it lol

This is a great example of why spoilers are bad and CAN make a movie less impactful, Hamil is right.

Sure a great movie is "supposed" to rise above the level of being ruined by a spoiler but I dread to think what my feelings for SW, ESB, Raiders, Aliens and Die Hard would've been like had I walked in knowing everything before hand, yikes.

Yeah, if I were to have a couple of quibbles with this film, the fact that the Spidey suit is essentially an Iron Man light suit is one. Why do you need a guy with special powers in the suit at all if it's an Iron Man type suit? Wouldn't Stark be better giving it to any random person, preferably someone who was a fully mature adult? They also don't acknowledge the "with great power comes great responsibility" deal at all. His motivations weren't entirely clear, beyond just being a good kid.

100%! Did TV spots spoil Keaton's identity or was it basically spoiled by people online?

I must say this was really a case where the racial diversity played masterfully into a film's major twist. I absolutely did not see that coming and probably me and both my kids all had our mouths open simultaneously, lol. We were reeling and fidgeting in our seats as much as Parker was in the car, ha ha. Just a really great moment.

How did people take to Stark basically being Parker's "Uncle Ben" (minus the dying of course) in this movie? I didn't mind it (especially six Spider-Man movies in) but I actually half expected to see people nerd raging over that when I came back here.

The random person I don't get.

Peter has powers that Stark wanted to amplify because he knows the world is right around the corner from another alien invasion.

Drastic times calls for drastic measures.

Well, that's the thing - you have to be a Spidey fan to know or care about some things. Which I'm not. My house is a DC house and I jumped ship LOL. So you can't nerd rage over things that don't have a deep meaning for you or you don't have a history with. I wasn't that thrilled when Spidey showed up in CW (this guy, again???? Geez, it's like Batman, every other year there's a film...)

But speakin' as someone who's seen the Spidey movies multiple times (like the TV stations have been running all of them, milking the film success) and someone who was baffled at the frenzy over Spidey's arm hairs re IW - re Uncle Ben, thank gawd. Speakin' as one of the unwashed masses:monkey3 who also went to this film but was kinda wary because there's been a LOT of Spidey (and there's some things I just can't unsee like some stuff in Spiderman 3)

Thank Gawd Aunt Mae is hawt and didn't want to make me cry for being a nice, honorable old lady, thank gawd for IMO a really well done interaction between Tony and Peter (I particularly liked Tony pointing out that if Cap had really wanted to take out Peter, he would have e.g. giving Peter a reality check), thank gawd Mae's trauma was hinted at but not bogged down in, and that this movie somehow managed to make Peter age-appropriate, funny, and meaningful all at the same time.
Awesome Michael Keaton:love. Thank gawd I didn't have to sit through Uncle Ben or flashbacks again. Cap was hilarious - I was hoping they'd have a few more of those moments. LOL.

"True" Spiderman fans might have some issues - but IMO this is just a multi-layered awesome movie:clap. Kudos to Marvel for pulling it off. Especially since I'm seeing it again.

As much as I loathe the Avengers Cap suit I actually liked all the little PSA announcements that were mandatory by the school. Especially the line about "I'm pretty sure he's a war criminal now but eh I still have to show you this," lol. And back in the comics (especially the 80's) Cap really was all over the place in the Marvel universe like that.

I forgot to mention how much I loved the Vulture's suit. Probably one of my favorite villain designs from any cbm. They did a great job of making me root for Spidey on account of him always feeling somewhat overwhelmed/outmatched. I'm sure on some level that was Feige keeping him slightly second-tier as long as he's shared with Sony but it still worked really well in this particular film.

And I'm absolutely thrilled that these great actors from when I was a kid are still doing these types of films. I know they couldn't fully appreciate it now but I love that my own kids will now forever have a memory of watching Keaton be a badass in a first run genre flick. One of the reasons I was bummed that I didn't enjoy GotG2. Would have loved to have taken them to see Russell, Stallone, and Rooker all together on screen. Oh well.

I also really liked Vulture's suit and powers. Would probably buy the figure if they made it.

I didn't read many posts here at all until recently, after I saw it. And I didn't see many complaints. But Stark as a father figure is far different than Ben as a source of guilt.

At the end of the day, despite the changes made here, this still feels much more like Spidey to me than any other incarnation to date.

But the suit could replicate anything Spidey could do on his own plus some. Look at Rhodey. He flies around and shoots missiles. Given Stark's technology, I don't see the real advantage of just enhancing Spidey, when I think about it. But it was an excuse to let his eyes open and close, so that's one good thing.

Pfieffer's turn is next, imagine if she had been in this, missed opportunity big time.

I loved that Marvel embraced his dorky look and ran with it, perfect choice for those dorky PSAs! Great use of an otherwise horrible costume. MCU wins again.

Vulture's jacket was awesome, I was hoping he said it belonged to his father who was a bomber pilot during WW2 fighting alongside Cap.

Yep, now I can link that terrible costume with those silly self-aware PSA's instead of something supposedly cool like the Chitauri invasion. It now has its proper place just like his cheesy USO outfit. Well played indeed, Marvel.
