Hey now, didn't say I agree 100% I just hold is thoughts higher than others.

Me and you like our schlock. :clap

You wound me, Kara...
I haven't seen your opinion about this one, Riddick (I only read back a few pages), but I do understand and acknowledge that this movie is extremely conventional from a narrative standpoint, and is meant to be a crowd pleaser first and foremost. But sometimes that's OK. It's like jazz music. You can have someone who comes on the scene with a totally new, creative approach like Thelonious Monk who is amazing because he tosses all convention aside. Or, you can have someone like Frank Sinatra, who is only interested in putting together an entertaining product for the masses by doing the best possible job in a very conventional framework. Both can be great, for different reasons.

But there is always subjectivity here. If you just can't understand the motivations of the filmmaker, and can't relate to the characters onscreen, then the movie probably won't work for you no matter what.

Well Kara's opinion of men in tights flicks does hold the most credit to me from all the 'Freaks here.....

Well, I just got back from seeing this. . .

My favorite comic book movie in a long time. I liked it better than Logan. Possibly beats out Spidey 2 as my favorite Spider-Man film, and it's probably my favorite Marvel Studios-involved film, though that could change if I give it some breathing space. Spidey and the X-Men were always my favorite Marvel comics, and as a life-long Spidey fan, everything was so great. I think this is the best Peter Parker we've had, Spidey was handled as well as he's been handled, we got straight to the meat without the origin story weighing things down again, terrific villain, teens I liked and could relate to (I was on the quiz team in high school), good humor, really good action, Stark was used very well and not overdone as I feared he would be, story played out very nicely and wasn't overly convoluted or misguided as we've seen with previous Spidey films. And most importantly, the mother****ing English Beat was on the soundtrack. 9/10

Caliban and Flash were working together the whole time! It all starts making sense.

That's it in a nutshell.

Thank you bro. Thank you.

Never thought that one day someone would compare me to an alien from "They Live"...
I guess it's time to stop postin' on the internet for a while.

Being the 3rd attempt, this one had an uphill battle. They had their work cut out to deliver something different. I'm not sure what would've pleased the masses more and gave this WW type legs. Maybe some people liked the old formula and wanted to see something closer to what we've already seen, just with Holland at the helm. Personally I'm glad they took this off the same ol' course and I appreciate the direction they went in. I feel the character was handled better than ever, despite (most of) the modern changes that deviate from the older fans' conception of Spidey. I think it succeeded in many ways and it's misunderstood by a lot of those who are in the disappointed camp.

I'm sure using his clumsiness for comedy through the van chase and Bueller-esque backyard run (plus a couple other moments) gave people the sense that this is a less skilled Spidey than we saw in CW. I thought that after the first watch too, but the more I saw this the more it's clear that this is both the same exact Peter AND Spidey we saw in CW.

Like I said before it's a perfect "year one" story that does a beautiful job bridging him into the MCU. And I'm glad he's joining in this late in the saga because I'm hoping he's the future and main focus of the MCU. Now that all the main characters have completed their trilogies, I'd like to see Spidey and maybe a couple other solo acts continue forward once the big build up ends after IW. If they continue handling the character well, maybe this'll be the first Spidey to see a 4th movie?

I sure hope so. I also like how they're building what seems to be a slow burn relationship development with "MJ," and turned convention on its head by the brilliant super model not being his ultimate love interest here. Just a charming film and character. And how great was Michael Keaton? So good. I wanna see him team up with Sam Rockwell. I almost never see movies more than once in the theaters, but may well bring my wife to go see this one in a couple of weeks.

Well.... I accepted most of the modernization... but I don't think I'll ever swallow MJ & Flash. The characters and performances are fine, but I wish they had different names.

But yea, the flick has a lot of charm and I credit Ned for that almost as much as I do Peter. It's also the overall tone. Keaton was great and I appreciate him more with each watch. I'm already sold on Gargan. Hoping he'll be as cool as advertised in the next one

Well SH officially has the worst 2nd weekend drop of all the MCU movies at 62%.

What does that say about Apes since SH jumped back to the # 1 spot the last few days lol.

Yup we're done with Apes, Godzilla might have to fight WW.

But Spidey has nothing to worry about when compared to that Valerian movie 200 million budget and predicted 17 milion opening....holy crap heads are certainly going to roll there.

Yup that movie looks like ass so perfect shot right there.

Oh that's right 5th Element was also hated on release then became a loved cult phenomenon so the same will happen with Valerian...

You would have to be a dirty communist to dislike this terrific film. Or someone who didn't grow up loving Spider-Man, and never being fulfilled with the other movies because they all failed to get him right until now. I don't know which is worse!
