Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

No, that's literally not a problem. :lol Like I said, crappy solo movies will just be ignored, Spidey will remain strong in the MCU. Did TIH bring the fledgling MCU to a halt? Did it stop Hulk from being awesome in The Avengers? No to both.

Maybe not for you, but the millions of so called "fans" who are clueless will be confused. There are tons of people out there who have now idea when you say the Fox franchise and Sony franchise are separate from the Marvel franchise. "HUH?? But their all Marvel characters??" Marvel doesn't need new headaches, and they certainly aren't hurting for money...

That actually proves my point. People thought ASM2 sucked and as you say most people probably thought it WAS in the MCU due to the Marvel logo at the beginning and that didn't "bring GOTG crashing down."

Agreed, look at Iron Man, he's survived two terrible sequels because people overlook them knowing that once the movie is over he'll be in the Avengers under a different director and writers. The deal really does work best for both parties.

Now that Spidey is apart of the universe, people are going to be intrigued since even the solo stories play a part in the overall story. Sony can make a bad film, they just can't really ruin any of Marvel's other character that probably won't even show up in Spidey's films or the likely won't be showing up much.

That's the problem... Sony only has to do one crap movie to mess up everything Disney and Marvel has created
These Spiderman movies could potentially bring the whole MCU down with them.
I think that's a bit exaggerated. I do see what you mean, but at this point it's anti-Sony people that would really be doing that. They'd boycott it for no other reason but because they hate this deal. Like Khev said, I personally love all the Marvel films, but what about films like TIH? I know people also say they hated the following: TFA, IM2, Thor, Thor 2, TIH, I'm sure people will dislike Ant Man, The Avengers, and so on. Yet all of em do pretty well. So I don't really think Marvel will be brought down by one film.
My biggest hope that phase 4 marks the start of Secret Wars. Proper symbiote storyline.

Oh that would be fun, with a second solo outing of Spidey with Kraven's last hunt! :rock

Yes because they are different storylines. Once Sony starts using them in their Spidey movies as crossovers.... well.... Now what? You ever watch The Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon currently on Disney XD?? Sony will want to put the Guardians in Spidey because "it was so much fun on tv!" Peter can bring Rocket to school for show and tell.. :rotfl

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

This would have been great news if not for one little included statement "Sony pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films". :gah:

Sony's "creative control" is literally what destroyed their own Spidey franchise. The 1st two Raimi films with Toby were great for the time. The story, villains and casting were all very Marvelish. They still hold up well. Then Sony flexed their muscle and insisted on Venom and Sandman in which Raimi tried to fight them and didn't want to do it, but he was under contract, and we know how that turned out in Spidey 3. After long talks, the cast and Raimi agreed to do Spidey 4. Then Sony stepped in again and tried to force Raimi to go with a hot young female as the Vulture for the villain, and after the fiasco of 3 Raimi basically told Sony to "go **** yourself!" So he and the cast walked away as it was an all in or nothing deal... So Sony says "We don't need you!.... Reboot!" Yeah, that went well. Amazing Spider-Man was a disaster from story to casting to visuals, I wanted those 2 hours of my life back (my 7 year old son asked me why was it so bad as we had just watched the Tobey movies before seeing this). Garfield was an Ok Spidey (supposed to be obnoxious) but sucked as Parker (way too obnoxious). Lizard was a complete joke visually, he had a humanish head!!. The only thing done well was Gwen. I still refuse to see Amazing Spider-Man 2 because of the convoluted story line with too many villains that all also look like ***. Paul Giamati as the Mech-Rhino??? Great actor, but seriously?? Jamie Fox as Electro?? Whoever the guy was that played Harry was ridiculous, and the Goblin looked like a joke. And then they have Marvel universe wishes so they decide to take all these crappy villains they can't even do right and make a Sinister Six movie so they can have a franchise and cinematic universe like Marvel... :rotfl So what happenned?? Made money because fanboys can't resist their inner conscious screaming at them to run away because it looks terrible. But in the end it still didn't make much profit because of all the production and marketing costs. So here we are, Sony in financila ruin, not knowing what to do, so they agree to work with Marvel. Marvel was bound to eventually do something foolish, and I think this is it. Marvel wants Spidey in their movies which I'm sure will be great, but then Sony will screw him up in theirs. Will make continuity an utter nightmare for Marvel. Well, all I can do now is hope for the best, as I am a big Spidey fan but my expectations and excitement will be non existent when Sony announces a film. Hopefully Sony will have learned from their mistakes and just shut their mouths and do whatever Marvel and Feige tell them to do, and then they can take all the credit... :dunno Only way this will work.

I would have felt the same way too but one key part when it comes to the solo films, at least the first one, is the they have Kevin Feige producing it and I see no mention of Avi Arad which gives me much hope for the solo films to finally shine. It was mainly Ari who has pretty much single handling destroyed two different Spider Man series with Sony. He was notorious to keep jamming in characters/stories that he wanted and could care less if it was the right time or too much for the film. I remember clearly he making Raimi add Venom to Spider Man 3 which just pushed aside what he had established in the first two films. Especially the Norman/Harry/Peter story arc. Raimi did a much better job telling that story and building the releationship that spread through multiple films unlike ASM 2 which try to tell it in one shot. It was a great build up that just fell flat when SM 3 came along. ASM 1&2 did have some stuff that were improved over Raimi's films but once again, Ari wanted to go ahead and push his Sinister 6 intro onto ASM2 while they should have spread it out to multiple films.

Just hope Sony keeps Kevin on board throughout the life of their Spidy Solo film and keep Ari out of it.

They would need Marvel's permission and Kevin Feige would be producing. I don't see the problem really.

That's the key. But problem is wealthy powerful executives with big egos like to toot their own horns and make up their own rules whether they are right or wrong. They don't care about the franchises or the masses, just making $$$$. They screw it up, they move on to the next thing.

OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Assuming that's what is in the fine print of the contracts.

The article said there wasn't a deal for Sony to use Marvel characters in their films but that they were negotiating. Even still, it would be insane for Marvel to give Sony permission to use all their characters without having any say.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Meh, dont like this at all. Seems to favour Sony way more than Marvel Studios. They've basically agreed to promote Sony in return for a Spider-Man cameo :lol the downfall of the MCU begins as they move away from the Feige outline.

Seems like a move driven by Disney to me in an attempt to get more Spiderman merchandise money. At least GOTG2 and Inhumans should remain unaffected by this so I'll enjoy them. And they better keep him out of Infinity War I & II

Both Incredible Hulk and the Iron Man sequels were good movies, though.

Both Incredible Hulk and the Iron Man sequels were good movies, though.

If we're talking about the majority then I guess you're right, but I just can't understand how someone can enjoy Iron Man 3. Iron Man 2 and the Incredible Hulk had some decent action at least.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Iron Man 3 was better than Iron Man 2 IMO, though I actually do understand how folks get too hung up on this or that detail to recognize the quality of the film as a whole.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Awesome news! :rock :rock:rock

New Spidey movie in 2017 pretty much cinches that he'll debut in Civil War.

Russo Bros Spider-Man!!! :rock

Oh HELL yeah! :yess:

I remember someone on this board telling me that it was never going to happen so just get over it... So glad he was wrong.

This is GREAT news!

I remember reading that too! :rotfl

Never say never. Especially when you're just an armchair director/writer/prodcer. :lecture :lol

Marvels crap movies didn't do that. Can't see how Sonys would.

Sony gets the MCU connection people want while Marvel gets Spider-Man. It's an equal win-win for both studios.

Well my beef with it has absolutely nothing to do with the twist. I just think it's one of the worst Superhero films ever made. I can't think of any redeeming qualities it had.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

I can see why kara would like IM3. Totally unpredictable twists, compelling drama, good performances. That always seems to trump "faithfulness to comics" for him. And I can understand that mentality because I think being a "good movie" covers a multitude of sins. I can also understand why people would be pretty put off by it.
