Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Meh, dont like this at all. Seems to favour Sony way more than Marvel Studios. They've basically agreed to promote Sony in return for a Spider-Man cameo :lol the downfall of the MCU begins as they move away from the Feige outline.

Yeah... and what were they thinking when they pushed Thor and Black Panther to acomodate Spiderman? The movies have done great and the planning has been near perfect. Big mistake messing with a good formula just to cramn and rush spiderman into the franchise.

I'm actually not sure why Marvel would have to move their own movies to make way for a solo Sony film so that is a little weird to me. But I don't believe that Spidey's inclusion into Civil War will be "rushed." Sounds like the Russo Bros were pushing to get him from the very beginning.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

I can see why kara would like IM3. Totally unpredictable twists, compelling drama, good performances. That always seems to trump "faithfulness to comics" for him. And I can understand that mentality because I think being a "good movie" covers a multitude of sins. I can also understand why people would be pretty put off by it.

Outside of Ben Kingsley I really don't know what other good performances the movie had. I'm hoping with Civil War the Russos can give us the Tony Stark we had from Iron Man 1 that could actually deliver a regular sentence without being sarcastic or obnoxious.

I'm hoping they didn't. I'd like to give Marvel credit and hope they had two plans. Plan A was with Spider-Man, plan B without. Since negotiations hadn't concluded yet with Sony, and the need to get future release dates set, they decided to go with plan B, but with hopes in still procuring a deal for Spidey with Sony. They then simply reverted back to plan A....

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Sony gets the MCU connection people want while Marvel gets Spider-Man. It's an equal win-win for both studios.

It's clearly not equal. Marvel Studios are saving Sony big time. Without this deal Sony's Spider-man would continue to limp on. Marvel could have been patient and had belief in the work they've already put in, instead they've already started to give Spider-man the spotlight over their other films.

But it's good for the Spider-man fans I guess.

And when the solo spider-man film does come it will be the only MCU film I don't rush to see at the cinema.

It already seems that Spider-man will become the focus of the MCU, I'm interested to hear what the lead actors for the MCU films so far think of this. Can't imagine RDJ will be happy with this.

Well if the movie is too faithful to the comics (Watchmen), then you have to ask what value the movie has, bringing something new and interesting to the table. But in general, I do prefer faithfulness to comics to Man of Steel type shenanigans. With Iron Man though, from minute one of the first film, they took comic Tony Stark, threw him right out the window, and gave us RDJ. The movies are about RDJ in this situation, not Iron Man as a distinct character. IM3 plays to his strengths. He's funny, he's got issues, he's got a clever way of dealing with things, the situations are unconventional. It was handled by Shane Black, who helped usher in the RDJ Stark character with Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, so he knew what he was dealing with. There was a logical story arc, the performances were good, the action was good, there was good tension, there was an effective resolution to the story.

Overall, it was a fun movie if you can shrug off Mandarin or drones or whatever else folks want to take issue with. Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes both score it higher than IM2, so critics feel the same. If folks can't understand that reality, then, well, they can't understand it. But it is reality. Some pseudo comic geeks hate IM3, and not even all of those do. General critics who try to judge it on its own merits appreciated it for what it was.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

It will be so refreshing to lose those campy damn love angles with Spidey. Marvel will still have his love interests but they wont be making romantic movies with a side of action. They'll make action movies with a side of chemistry, emotional turmoil, etc. Just tired like hell of the crappy love angles of the previous movies.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

The only bad thing from this news is that he will probably take screen time away from characters like Falcon, Winter Soldier, Hawkeye and Widow in Cap 3... but I prefer Spidey way over any of those so I don't really care. :lol

See everything good you listed about the movie was in Iron Man 1.

Iron Man 3 had a terrible villain, terrible performances, and terrible action. It was just a bad movie all around, my hate for the movie has nothing to do with the comics. I'm shocked people found Downey to be funny in it, a lot of stuff he did and said was cringeworthy in my opinion.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

The best way to handle this is to age him and that way they can keep the old movies in the continuity.

Marvel movies are so kid friendly I don't think they would ever have had those sad scenes that were in spiderman.

Evening thing is glossed over. On the one hand it's good that they can incorporate him on to the greater marvel universe the bad thing is that it's not going to have its own style and will have to follow the marvel model kid friendly entertainment

The only reason I can fathom that Iron Man 3 did so well, was that it got to ride the success and high that The Avengers created worldwide. While it wasn't terrible, I think it just didn't hit its mark as a comic book movie. Was more like a spy thriller with Tony living out his fantasies of being James Bond like... and of course what they did to the Mandarin as a character is unforgiving to Iron Man fans. Iron Man 2 suffered from making Whiplash a joke. He was originally to have a much bigger and more important role other than just being a foil to Tony Stark. That's why Mickey Rourke took the role, and was later very unhappy with the results of what his role became. Again Jon Favreau as director seemed to be pushed away from his original vision which is sad since the 1st Iron Man movie was so good. But, it at least felt like a comic book movie. Iron Man 3 was just way out there, more so than any other Marvel movie to date I think. It's one of those movies the more I watch, the more I come around to it. But it was no Winter Soldier, that's for sure!!

Were all those characters planned to be in Cap 3? Along with Iron Man of course. Does there not come a point where it's no longer a Captain America film and why even call it one?

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

"Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films"

I lost all faith in Sony after Spiderman 3, ASM1 and ASM2. If this is the only way spiderman returns to Marvel studios, then I'll make that deal. But "final creative control" remaining with Sony? Sony just take a step back, let the Marvel crew take over, and rake in your checks. Money is all you really care about, evidently shown through your last 3 spiderman films.

On another note, I think Andrew Garfield is a good actor. Good actors can get screwed over by a bad director and bad studio, which is what I think happened here. It would not make sense for Andrew to appear in one spiderman iteration, than have him appear in a whole new one with a completely different tone and direction. I can't imagine him holding up next to Robert and the two Chris's from Marvel. And on a personal note its extremely difficult for me to accept a superhero in skinny jeans and a hipster urban outfitters jacket, but that is just me.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Not the most ideal option but I can live with this compromise between Sony and Marvel, personally I would've preferred Marvel get the rights back outright. The only real concerning matter is Sony retaining final creative control over the solo Spidey films, though not sure what exactly that entails - does the contract specify certain conditions need to be met before Sony can step in and call the shots, like an impasse for a certain length of time? Hard to believe Fiege would sign the deal knowing his team's decisions would get overridden by Pascal and the Sony brigade. Sony also knows they have no creative clue on steering this franchise. It's pretty standard for a major to require final creative control from the production company in a studio finance deal, more so since this sounds like it'll be 100% financed by Sony, so maybe we shouldn't read too much into this. I wouldn't even lose sleep over distribution and P&A going to Sony, that's basically their cut of the deal, and even if Disney ended up being the distributor, it's the same ol' s*** no matter which major distributes the film... maybe except for slightly more Disney Channel spots for the solo Spidey film if Disney handled distribution :lol

It only really works as a Christmas movie. Watch it at any other time of year and it's just weird.

I accept that it's flawed, but I actually quite like it. It certainly has the best technology porn of any Marvel film since the Mk II flight test in Iron Man.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

I see gremlins as a christmas movie lol

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Imagine RDJ Stark, Star-Lord, Paul Rudd, and Spider-Man in one movie. Might as well just make it a straight-up comedy.
