Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Imagine RDJ Stark, Star-Lord, Paul Rudd, and Spider-Man in one movie. Might as well just make it a straight-up comedy.

Don't forget putting proton packs on them and making them all women. Sony would love that.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Hopefully we get a witty Spiderman this time. He needs to talk a lot, especially if he's going up against Robert Downey Jr/Tony Stark verbally.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

It won't be happening this way but if they did retain one of the previous Spiderman movie continuities and integrate it into the current MCU, which do people feel is more compatible - Raimi-verse or Webb-verse? Perhaps not necessarily a question of which movies were better....

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Having Spidey show his secret identity in Civil War would be a bad move IMO and put SONY in a corner from there on out story wise.

Part of the reason of having Feige produce is to allow to continuity between the two. So whatever happens in Civil War would help stem into his own adventures and vice versa. Having a public knowledge Spidey would definitely play into a new angle with Sony who for the most part has no clue what to do with Spider-Man right now. They're focusing on Venom and the Sinister Six which again would indicate that they're waiting to get something hammered out with Disney/Marvel

I don't think Sony would have given Spidey up. He still made them money, just not as much as he could have. This may not be a best case scenario, but it's better than what the likely alternative would have been, which is Sony stumbling along, trying some other, new approach that may or may not have worked better than the last one, until the next inevitable reboot. At least now he'll be involved in the Marvel Studios films, and Feige's fingerprints will be on his solo film. Those are good things.

They'd never give up Spider-Man rights completely it's one of their few moneymakers film wise. This was the best case scenario. Thor 2 wasn't that good, Iron Man 2 wasn't that good, Iron Man 3 was questionable but because of the Marvel connection they make money and people go to see what is being set up next. Sony is banking that people will do the same for Spider-Man knowing he'll be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that characters from there could show up here.

It's a way to keep Spidey completely Sony's but letting Feige rearrange the parts to make sure they fit and use the Marvel Studios pull to get people in the theaters that didn't show up for ASM2.

I promise you that the first Marvel Studios/Sony Spider-Man in 2017 will have the biggest box office opening of any of the ones before it and that is what Sony is banking on.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Third times the charm hopefully with the Spider-Man franchise.

So will the new Spider-Man movie come first, or will he first appear in one of the other films. The easiest way would probably be to have him appear in one of the other films, not long after he becomes known as Spider-Man. Then they can make the first film and skip over his beginnings, I mean we all know it by now anyway.

I think they would try to pick a younger actor so they can have them play the character for quite a few years. RDJ and Chris Evans look like they'll be the first Avengers to leave and I doubt ScarJo will stay around for too long either.

Now they just have to pick yet another actor for Spider-Man/Peter Parker. It feels like we just went through this yesterday with Andrew Garfield lol.

I think it is a good think that Sony saw the writing on the wall after ASM2 bombed. It wasn't going to be worth it making another sequel after that. With the success of The Avengers, they new it would be in their best interests to have Spider-Man become involved in that universe. I can see the interest in the new reboot to be much higher just because the character will be involved with The Avengers.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Were all those characters planned to be in Cap 3? Along with Iron Man of course. Does there not come a point where it's no longer a Captain America film and why even call it one?

true... Cap 3 is going to have a lot of characters. Not too sure how any characters will get much to do other than Cap, Iron Man, Black Panther and Spidey. I haven't even accounted for the actual villain/villains either. And if Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are also in it too since they will be part of the movie verse now too.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

I hope Sony's creative control relates only to their own Spiderman film. It would be pretty bad if Sony had influence in the Civil War/subsequent avengers films. And Iron man 3 suffered because there was too many outside influences. I think the presence of that Harley kid was something the Disney cooks forcibly pushed into the marvel kitchen. It seems that in 2014, Marvel got much smarter, and told the stories they wanted to tell with winter soldier and guardians.

"See cap, thor, and iron man are all rolling around on the floor with dookie on them. Then spiderman comes in with his gators on, steps over them, and knocks out Thanos with one punch"

Feige did an interview a while ago, I can't find it where he talked about what he would do with Spider-Man. One of the things was to bring back the quick wit, which Garfield did a little but not to the standard we're used to.

Yeah they were, then again all of those characters for the most part were in Cap 2 and it worked. I'm not really worried about Marvel over slotting characters.

The best way to handle this is to age him and that way they can keep the old movies in the continuity.

Marvel movies are so kid friendly I don't think they would ever have had those sad scenes that were in spiderman.

Evening thing is glossed over. On the one hand it's good that they can incorporate him on to the greater marvel universe the bad thing is that it's not going to have its own style and will have to follow the marvel model kid friendly entertainment

What it sounds like might happen is he gets the "Incredible Hulk" treatment back when Norton took it over. The origin is quickly glossed over and then it moves. The problem is if he is too old it leaves an issue with why has he been active under the radar for so long, he isn't Batman. It also sounds like they won't use any continuity before that they'll start fresh but not at origin, at least if what Feige said a while back holds suit.

Everything could be different now that the ink is drying on the contracts.

I hope Sony's creative control relates only to their own Spiderman film. It would be pretty bad if Sony had influence in the Civil War/subsequent avengers films.

Sony has only creative control over standalone Spidey films. They have no say in anything Marvel Studios even if Spidey is in it. As per the agreement even Sony standalones will have Kevin Feige producing them along with the Sony brass to keep things straight amongst all franchises.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Do we really believe Sony is going to move ahead with Sinister Six and Venom? I think this deal with Marvel basically ****canned those developments, no way in hell Fiege would be ok with Sony pursuing non-MCU Spider-verse developments. Any spinoff character would likely need to be introduced in Spidey's solo film first, and it's a pretty safe bet that if there's going to be any spinoff Spidey film, the first is more than likely a MCU Venom, which would take time to develop. Safe money is Sony's going to distribute at least 2-3 solo MCU Spidey films before we see spinoffs.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Anyone think they'll do a race change and make the new Spidey a minority?

Having Spidey in any type of Avengers movie is like printing your own money.

It won't, Sony may have some say in how Spidey is featured in the other MCU films but absolutely no chance that Marvel would've given them contractual right to tamper with and halt development on their own films. Sony's creative control for the most part extends only to the solo film since they're financing it.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

I said it before but what I imagine would be Peter in the end credits of Civil War announces he's Spiderman at a press conference like in the end of Iron Man. Then the Sinister Six forms and comes after him since they know who he is. Gives Sony the ability to do a totally different direction and tone with the reboot. As well as having him older and established. And I suspect Mary Jane will be back after the brief rest in ASM1 and 2.

They should put J. Jonah Jameson in a more central role in Civil War though, even before Spiderman. They can have him championing against masked vigilantes.

Agreed. It's no longer about the movies at hand but about how it feeds into the overal continuity. So crap movies are excused as long as they move things along. I beleive that If ASM2 was already part of the universe it would've been received better just for that fact alone.

Third times the charm hopefully with the Spider-Man franchise.

This would be true if the bulk of Spider-Man moves weren't good. They only had two out of five poorly recieved.

Anyone think they'll do a race change and make the new Spidey a minority?

They wouldn't need to do a change, they'd just use Miles Morales in that case.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

I'm also in the camp that they go with Peter Parker over Miles Morales for the MCU. To the over 90% of movie watchers, Peter Parker is still Spider-Man.

I wouldn't be shocked if they continue with it simply to have more opportunity for cash. Sinister Six could be done without a connection to anything Marvel films and be fine. Venom on the other hand might be off depending on which version Marvel wants to use. Rumors are they could use the Flash Thompson version in Guardians as he is popular in the books right now.

Donald as Spidey began trending last night. Marvel in the books is going really big in the diversity realm and it looks like Miles Morales is joining Peter in continuity after the summer event. It's possible that if they don't replace they add to somehow and have both running around. There is a big push for them to use Miles right now. Even Bendis (his creator) is weighing in.

Which is why ultimately why I think Sony agreed. Pascal said Spider-Man is her legacy. With as big of a screw-up has she has had, I would imagine a little fan service and making Spider-Man hugely profitable again is her version of Spin Control
