I started watching this last night--got bored and stopped halfway through. I'll finish it, but it definitely doesn't live up to the hype. So far, it's predictable and just "ok".

Maybe the second half will blow me away, but so far it's just another Marvel film. Predictable plot, effects are hit and miss, villain is ok. I loved Boseman in CW, but he is boring so far in this film. The hype train was full steam ahead for this, just like Wonder Woman, and both films are just ok to me--not bad, but certainly not great.

So... where did Stark got vibranium for Captain America's WWII shield again?

My wife asked me that when we were watching it last night. I don't think it was ever explained. We're probably just supposed to assume that Howard Stark was rich and shady so he probably bought it from someone that smuggled it out of Wakanda.

But the movie tells us that Klaw was the only one able to smuggle it, and he was born after WWII.
Then again, how the **** British museum had vibranium artifact? This is such a mess...

I wonder if polled what the numbers of ethnic viewers would say that Black Panther is the 1st MCU movie they've seen in its 10 years and 19 movie franchise. And curious how many even knew he was in Civil War previously, or how many have even seen IW because BP & Wakanda were featured heavily in it.

I see a lot of African-Americans wearing BP tshirts that I'm pretty sure are not actual comic fans or even previously new the character existed. I'm in NYC today, and I can't count how many BP tshirts I've seen. Like I and many others have said this movie is mediocre at best. Its success has had very little to do with it being an actual good movie. Just like Wonder Woman but like x10.

none of the people that my church took saw any marvel movie or were comic fans. they took 25 kids and their parents or guardians. none of the older kids or the guardians had any idea of the stuff in marvel.
This movie was just a movie for people to watch without having to know marvel. and Disney knew this. thats why it is so disconnected from the rest of the marvel movies

Well I guess even with it being mediocre it was good enough for the intended audience who were starving for this particular kind of content.

If I give a starving person a mediocre meal it won’t be mediocre for them see what i’m saying.

My belly might be full of the best movies cinema had to offer me for the last 40 years but a person with an empty belly is sure going to wear that BP tshirt like it’s a 3 course lobster meal.

I get it.

Take a step back and look at the whole picture then you will also get it.

Interesting pol but why does it matter tho. So what if they didn’t know the character before the movie. My comic statue collection for marvel actually started after the movies. I knew about them through cartoons but never read a comic. Movies got me more interested in these old comics.

Yes the movie is not the best movie ever. Blame the media and critics for that. For blacks (me included) it meant a little more than just another comic book movie. I mean people saw the movie, liked it and decided to purchase a tshirt from it. Thats no different behavior than any other comic book movie that comes out..

the movie might be mediocre for a marvel or a super hero fan

for NON Marvel fans the movie is amazing. for NON action NON superhero fans the movie is incredible

i think thats the problem. the movie is being judged by two sets of people. the comic fans might be more harsh because they are so used to comic movies.
the regular movie goer might be super amazed by the visuals and the effects and the action

it is literally the same as GET OUT. Get out for horror fans is cliche and boring and mediocre as a horror. it tells the same story other 20 movies have told in the past. Get Out drags a little bit and doesnt tell anything new to your regular horror fan

For NON horror fans get out is the most amazing horror movie they have ever seen, for people that never watch horror, get out was suspenseful and scary and funny and shocking.
because they dont know the horror history your regular horror fan knows.

neither people are wrong. neither view is wrong. it is just different
