Yeah I liked the soundtrack. Why didn't they keep using that theme for Thor? It did make a brief return at the end of Ragnarok but that was it.

MCU Thor didn't feel like the same character from Branagh's film in anything after The Avengers or before Infinity War, so I guess it was only fitting for them to scrap the theme too. :lol

BP had a great soundtrack and I think should win some kind of award for it, but I dont think it deserves best picture, or even to be nominated as such. If any comic book movie deserves it it would be TDK. But for marvel specifically, WS has my vote.

I wouldn't even say that TWS was worthy of a Best Picture nom. BB, TDK, and *maybe* Logan (depending on how forgiving you want to be of the final forest foot race) but nothing so far from the MCU IMO. Certainly not BP which isn't even a Top 5 MCU film.

I'll disagree - the way TWS was filmed, fight choreography, music, script, performances - game changer in the MCU and also for Cap's character.
Really nice tie-ins to Cap's 1940s beginnings.

Went from at times being considered "most boring Avenger" to absolutely beloved (srsly my IW premier audience was pretty dull but cheered when Cap appeared. Then there was the guy who hollered "No!" when BP got dusted:(. That was about it for reactions...except for depressed audience when it just ends. Like that.)

Just re-watched Thor last night tho - w. time like a lot of the MCU movies appreciate more. IMO w. Thor some tough stuff to bring from comic to screen and not have it look cartoony. Rainbow bridge and when Thor takes out Destroyer = awesomeness + Heimdall:love

Now I wish I had Odin and Loki #1 HT.$$$:horror Snooze and lose I guess.:blissysmi

Yeah maybe BP doesn't deserve it. But TWS, Logan and TDK were not releases in 2018 lol.

People got mad cbm were not nominated for best picture. Now that there is one we say no cuz the older movies deserve it?
Say whut? Lol

Not even Crash winning best picture didn't generate as much hate as black panther just getting nominated.

To me TWS is an action classic like ALIENS, Predator, or Die Hard. Not a "Best Picture" nominee. So just because I don't think it should have been nominated (since it would only put it under a spotlight of hyper criticism and nitpicking if it were) doesn't mean that I still don't consider it to have top tier company.

Everything doesn't have to get a Best Picture nomination to be validated and I'm fine with "timeless action classic" being an entirely different animal than the Birdmans, Shawshank Redemptions and Schindler's Lists of the world.

Would people like Star Wars anymore than they already do if it won an Academy award? Or Raiders, or Die Hard, or Avengers? No. This awards distinction only shows that highbrow people acknowledge what you have done. How many academy award wining movies have pulled in a billion dollars. I’m sure Disney would much rather have the money than the award. And trust me Black Panther is not going to win best picture!

"My mommy always said there were no SJW participation awards - no real ones - but there are."

"Yes, there are, aren't there?"

"Why do they tell little kids that?"

"Most of the time it's true."

Truthfully, I don't think anyone will rate this in their Top 5 Marvel movies in another 5 years.

Wanna bet?

Avengers
Thor
First Avenger
Iron Man
Black Panther

Only IW or another "good" Marvel film post-IW2 can knock it off my top 5.

I've still only seen this movie once though. My view could change the second time around.

OK, its only been a year since that dialogue... but is this still in your Top 5. Be honest...

I enjoy most Marvel... Black Panther was no different. No different. Middle of the road Marvel...

Agreed. Lots of fun but not exceptional. Like most Marvel films there was one great middle act setpiece (casino) that stands out for me.

It's actually really hard for me to rank Marvel films. One reason this wouldn't make my Top 5 because I'm not a fan of super-magical nano-technology, which almost all late-stage Marvel films have, making even the films I really loved difficult to rank.

For me personally, I liked Avengers, Infinity War, Endgame, Winter Soldier, Civil War, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Iron Man all more than Black Panther.

Oh, most definitely.

I'd put the First Avenger, Thor, SM: Homecoming and even Ant-Man ahead of it.

Funny, seems like the Cap Saga has the most consistent hits.
