I'll say it again... A story/work of art has a vision, and that vision is not yours, it's the artist's or group of artists in this case.

Buncha self-entitled whiney tittie-baby fanboys forcing BioWare change the ending to their own story? That is an awful precedent, IMHO.

Nerds ruin everything.

No so much to change it, but make it make sense.
 
I actually love the ending of "Lost" but I feel cheated by ME3's ending(s) so that should tell you something about my willingness to compromise with artistic vision.

Hopefully PAX will bring some clarification to what the game content initiatives will be and how long they will take to finish, probably won't be til the end of the year unless they foresaw that this might happen in which case they should have just delayed the game to add them in, even if a 3rd disc was required. Until then, I'll just have to leave it untouched in its case.
 
Then please logically explain why/how the Normandy was going through the Mass Relay at the time of detonation knowing Jokers commitment to Shepard, and why Liara who was just on the ground with me is magically beamed aboard to crash land with Joker.

How/why are the millions of souls that are now stranded around earth going to survive on an planet that is on it's last leg...how do the turians and quarians live when they can't eat what others can.

Tell me why Shepard who throughout the entire series has never given up and has always fought for the good in all, automatically takes the word of a glowing god child he just met. One that tells him that synthetics and organics will NEVER stop fighting, even though Shepard just ended the geth/quarian war.... OR couldn't Bioware have saved a lot of time and had Shepard believe Saren in the first game...

Tell me why Shepard, would choose to inflict mass genocide on a galactic scale by destroying the mass relays,destroying every star system except our own. Which in an essence does more harm then the reapers ever could. The Shepard personality that has been established before the ending would not do that.

I don't understand the argument against changing the ended being an detriment to 'artistic vision' or integrity. When Blade Runner got different cuts, no one ____ing complained.
 
When the government threatens videogames, "fans" shout that it's an art form. When those same "fans" don't get what they want (or simply don't understand or comprehend), it's suddenly a business product that you are entitled to criticize because you paid for it. "The client is always right mentality" is for losers. Bioware should've had the balls to stick to their guns, because their guns are just fine. That's why it is so sad to witness this ridiculous episode of childish, nerdish reactions.
 
Yes, I understand the story and the ending but unless the guys from Bioware describe in detail exactly what they had in mind as to what a fraction of the community identifies as plotholes, then my own grasp is irrelevant. That's the beauty of science-fiction: there are endless possibilities, and not everything needs to be explained. Everyone who bought ME3 (and the previous 2) got their money's worth and then some. Of all the games the "fans" could've questioned, they had the effin' nerve to pick the ME franchise...that is just surreal. Ultimately, those "fans" simply don't know how good they've got it.
 
The problem is that we did get so much good from the ME series that when it ended up boiling down to a simple A/B/C choice, which was not what the series conclusion was supposed to be like, it disappointed many fans who had come to expect so much more from the franchise. No one complains about the endings of games where the player is not presented with choice, because the game was heading towards its scripted conclusion and there was nothing the player could do to change or even affect it.

With ME, players were given such an immersive experience where decisions expanded and carried over throughout an entire trilogy (which I don’t think had been done before on such a scale) and to get an ending where not only are there sizeable plot holes, which so far have not been explained, but decisions, one of ME’s foundational aspects, are also taken away and made for the player by some deus ex that is not telegraphed in any way, shape or form in the trilogy left some players wondering why BW bothered with choice if in the end it didn’t matter and they could not create an ending that in some way felt logical to the way they played their individual games.

In a game created where choice and decisions mattered so much, the developers should recognize that, while they may have a specific ending in mind as their own personal, artistic statement, they also must see that not all players may share that same and that in their decision to give the players such control over the events that occur in their own ME universe, they should have created an number of outcomes that cover the various paths down which a player could guide their Shepard.

This all could all change though with their new content initiatives : plot holes explained or solved, additional, not replacement, outcomes implemented, and resolution granted for those seeking it. If you are happy with the way the game ends, then you got what you were looking for, but for many of us, there was nothing there at the ending of things that resembled the game that we have loved so dearly.
 
I wasn't looking for an ending, or playing for that...I was looking for interactive entertainment at its finest, and I got EXACTLY that.

Everyone got that. Until the last 10 minutes.

Many including myself were playing for an ending, after all we knew this was the end of Shepard's story. I haven't put over 100 hours into the ME games to not care about the ending.
 
And many people were playing for an ending. Are you gonna blame them for that?

You got your ending. Shepard doesn't get to kiss the girl. So what?

Anyway, you "true" fans out there will be getting that "closure" and those "answers" you're all so desperately looking for. Hopefully it will correspond to what all of you had in mind, because if it doesn't...well...good luck with that.

No, I wouldn't get my ending, I would get a predetermined ending that has very little to do with the way I made descisions.

Shepard getting the girl/guy/alien has absolutely nothing to do with the core complaints being leveled at BW, which is something that anyone who has actually looked at the agrument would clearly see.

I have no problem with Shepard dying or sacrificing herself/himself in the end. Red Dead Redemption, Reach, Bioshock 2 all had bittersweet endings that I felt were justified and made logical sense in the context of their games. ME is a different type of game where so much is controlled by the player that having a predetermined ending regardless of the choices made seems like they did not take enough care to provide complete resolution regarding the state of the universe at the end. Bethesda's Fallout games provide the simplest of closure via short segments, but they do provide closure to every major, and even most minor, character/factions in the game without much difficulty. I can't see how BW could not have done it also.

As long as the answers make sense in context, then I guess it'll be settled one way or another. After all is said and done, really, there are only two things it will affect. One, my desire to replay the games. Either it ends up like Knights of the Old Republic and gets played a number of times or it ends up like Final Fantasy IX and gets only one playthrough. And second it will affect my faith/trust in BW when it comes to promises made regarding their games.

Oh, I have looked at the argument alright. I just didn't see any. Like you didn't see an ending.

I'll just stop here because it doesn't matter anyway. Bio caved in, the "fans" got what they wanted, and the other fans lost just a little bit of respect for a great bunch of very talented people who didn't have the balls to see their ideas through. Now let's see if they can come up with something that will make it all better.

On a non-ME side note, I was wondering if you played Fallout 3 and the Broken Steel DLC? When Bethesda retconned the ending, did you feel like they sold out and caved in or were you fine with what they did? Just curious:)

Unfortunately I didn't play Fallout 3. I don't know why but it doesn't appeal to me as much as Skyrim did. I know it's a great game though. Maybe I'll get around to it eventually.

I'd just ignore this guy. He's just stirring the pot just for the hell of it. For someone who claims to have an understand of the ending, he sure was quick to cop-out on answering/explaining my questions in his opinions.
