there is ALOT of crying from a specific group over at the Org demanding more POP,claiming there is not enough representation and saying there are too many MOTU Vintage characters...LOL Really? there is plenty of POP already with Frosta coming next year!!! along with Seahawk who is rumored to be the quarterly figure for Filmation

There would be NO MOTU Classics right now if it wasn't for the Vintage stuff...or there would be even less Subscriptions sold if half of it was POP characters (which it seems the babies at the Org basically want) I'd say NA is the one that gets the shaft here...

I hope Toyguru sticks to his guns and Does not listen to more POP demands and sticks with his yearly formula

6 Vintage
2 POP
2-3 Filmation or 1 200x
1 Concept/mini comics
1 NA

Just display them and love them. You know deep down inside you want to.:lol

I'd kinda like to get rid of them too, but i gotta be a completist. Something keeps making me think i'll regret not having every figure in this line.

Nah... not me... Swift wind is gone...
So will the Star Sisters...
I don't mind SOME POP characters To be honest, but the SS are too much for me...

Did you get the Molarr too? I remember you being very much against that figure way back when.

Molarr is cool in my book!
Love Robot Chicken!!

News from Matty....

Toy Fans,

Okay, gang, 2012 is right around the corner and there's no doubt it's going to be our biggest year ever. MOTUC Club Eternia® continues into its fourth year, and we welcome the all-new DC Universe Club Infinite Earths, Voltron® Club Lion Force and the MOTUC 30th Anniversary Series subscriptions! Along with the new Voltron® line, we've also got the WWE® Legends line joining Matty. There's a lot happening, so read on for all the details!

January 17th Sale

First up, please note that the first sale of the year is on TUESDAY, January 17th due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Here's the list of products we'll have for your purchasing pleasure:

Masters of the Universe® Classics

* Sorceress®, Club Eternia® Figure of the Month (included with 2012 subscriptions)
* Fearless Photog™ (included with MOTU 30th Anniversary Series subscriptions)
* Battle Armor® Skeletor®

Ghostbusters™

* "Ready to Believe You" 6" Peter Venkman (with Taxi Cab Ghost)

Core Characters Available Year 'Round

Great news… we heard your requests and will have a selection of fan-favorites available in the shop all year so you can buy them anytime! We're starting with MOTUC and Ghostbusters™, and these figures will be available starting January 17th so you can combine them with other products and save on shipping!

* He-Man®
* Battle Cat®
* Skeletor®
* Panthor®
* 6" Peter Venkman (with proton stream)
* 6" Ray Stantz (with "no ghost" ghost)

January Subscription Key Dates

Because there are so many subs and no separate "combo" this year, we won't be posting a summary of the costs, but here are the key dates for January 2012: Your card will be charged 5 calendar days before the on-sale date, so plan to have funds available before Thursday, January 12, 2012. Subscription orders will begin shipping 2 business days before the on-sale date, which is Friday, January 13, 2011.

2012 Price Increase

Please remember, prices are going up in 2012 for non-subscription items. As we told you when the subs were originally on sale, we are going to hold our prices at the 2008 levels for all subscription holders, but in 2012 they will go up for items purchased during the regular monthly sales. This applies to both subscription holders and those without subscriptions: if you purchase products during our regular monthly sales, prices will be higher in 2012. The pricing for basic figures will be $22 each, beasts will be $33 each, and large items like the Star Sisters™ set will be $66 (prices, as always, are subject to change). This only applies to non-subscription purchases -- pricing for items purchased through subscriptions will remain as previously stated.

So remember, the first sale of 2012 kicks off Tuesday, January 17th at 9 a.m. PT (12 noon ET). As always, I’ll send email reminders (click here to register) and post reminders on Facebook, Twitter and in our Fan Forums.

Thanks for a fantastic 2011 and from our family to yours, have a great holiday season!

–Matty

I think having core characters year-round is a BRILLIANT decision. Make it easier for people to jump on instead of harder. :clap

I heard mention that they were planning on doing something where sub holders could add additional figures to their shipment before the sale date if they want multiples of a particular character or some of the re-releases. Is that no longer happening?

Yep, good idea...
except for Ghostbusters... :horror!

I think GBs is pretty much dead after 2012. I'm okay with that. The schedule was slow, there really aren't a ton of characters, especially re-use characters like MOTU, and I legitimately understand that they can't afford to make a unique figure every month. Unfortunately with Murray holding out on making part 3 (and I can't really blame him either) there's just not the audience for it that there is for MOTU.

I wish they had done Real Ghostbusters Classics in the same vein as DCUC and MOTUC. I wasn't a fan of the vintage style Real Ghostbusters with the cloth outfits they made. It would have been cool to see remakes of some of the crazy older figures that I used to have and some of the cartoon villains like Boogeyman and Sandman. Probably just not popular enough, though.

It's more of a matter of cost - each RGB had a unique body type, and the ghosts were fairly complicated. The realistic GBs all use the same body and the ghosts are essentially PVCs with maybe poseable arms.

they are "still" working on that...but with DR,can we honestly think this will even work? :)

Another method to motivate customers to subscripe.

Would also cause non-subbers change into panic-mode, of not getting their figures.

I really hope DR doesn't screw up my order and I get my WR and Vigo with Demo-Man next month.

As for the latest Matty press release, having the core figures available is a good idea that some of us were preaching back in 2010 when the minute sell-outs started. The price increase blows, but was expected. I expect even more casual fans to start dropping off in 2012.

We'll see if the hardcore motu-fanatics can keep the line going via subs in 2013 and beyond.

All-New MOTU 30th Anniversary Art Debuts

December 21, 2011

MOTU Fans,

The holidays are just about here, so we thought we'd give you a little present… here's your first official look at the all-new artwork for the Masters of the Universe® 30th Anniversary celebration!

Click here to see more!
Gabriel De La Torre, Staff Product Designer from Mattel Entertainment Design, told us, "This ‘alt’ style to the Classic brand was created as a visual way to re-imagine the vast characters and worlds of Masters of the Universe® with a contemporary edge. This dynamic artwork will be used across multiple categories in consumer products and beyond, celebrating our Masters of the Universe 30th Anniversary program launching in 2012."

Creating a new look for an iconic brand like MOTU while still retaining the integrity of its original style was no simple task. Gabe and his team searched for an artist who not only had the style they envisioned, but also a love for MOTU. "We landed on a well-known talent named Alvin Lee, whose work can be seen in a variety of brands and also many popular video games. With the finished product, his passion for the characters and the brand really shined through. Raymond Makowski (Staff Product Designer) and I worked with Alvin Lee to create a dynamic collection of poses and battle scenes that not only pushed the designs of the characters, but also captured the essence of the Masters of the Universe® feel--heroic, perilous and empowering." Gabe said.

Look for the new art to appear on toy packaging starting in Q1, and on licensed goods from shirts to lunchboxes throughout 2012. We'll have more updates at New York Toy Fair in February, but in the meantime, click here to feast your eyes on images of favorites including Skeletor® and Beast Man®!
