Mike- Only a 2 on value? Have to say thats the one area I think you missed the boat on. The rest is quite good though.

Nice review Michael, but I do think your harsh on the score for value. The price of collectibles is going up these days. Even the low quality 6" figures in the store are around $15, plus the gas to drive to and back from the store.

I'll stand with Mike here! Prices are going up, but it doesn't mean it's justified! It just mean they've found suckers like us ready to pay a lot for a piece of plastic! (and I mean this of all collectibles! HT and EB included!) :D

I agree, I dont understand why people are complaining about price for these.Sure, $15 would be nice, but try finding these things in a retail store (if they made them available there).Nothing but a waste of time, gas, and frustration to battle other collectors searching for collectibles. If these figures were on the shelf,I guarantee these would be hard to get and if you are not there when they are stocking it, your screwed!!

Stores these days are charging $15 for action figures.Look at Mcfarlane, who makes unposable statues, and charges almost $15 for a figure. At least were are getting (in the classics) a quality made figure, with great articulation and accessories. Everyone always wants to pay less, but look what we are getting...a NEW kick ass MOTU Collection that I thought we'd never see

If you think you're getting a good deal, bravo. That's why I break my ratings up, so you can see what effects MY opinion. Doesn't mean you have to agree.

Yes, toys in the store cost $12 - $15. Mattel's DCUC line, just as good as their MOTUC line, costs around $12. MOTUC is 80% re-use, eliminating any sort of specialty market, low run issues. On top of that, there are ZERO licensing fees. These shouldn't be more than $15, other than the fact that Mattel has rightly guessed that collectors will pay $20.

As to saving time and energy looking for them - that's what you're paying another $9 in shipping charges for.

ive got to agree with mike. i was looking at a stinkor staction last night and the paint apps are amazing and there is a ton of new tooling going on and the price tag said 16.99 on it. granted there is not articulation. i understand that these will be reusing certain parts but that should drive the price down. it just doesn't make sense to me that the new ghost busters figs will be about the same price and they come from a license and have an extra ghost figure pack in in each one. :monkey3

Is anything these days really worth the money? look at Sideshow's overpriced 12" pieces or even hot toys or medicom 12" figures for that matter.Yeah they are cool, but All are overpriced....I get more pleasure in spending $20 for a figure, and get the same Wow Factor, than spending $100-$175 on a 1/6 figure.I still say the price is not as bad as people complain about, compared to other collectibles

Being a nostalgic fan, my demand for this line is mostly unshaken by the current prices, but the shipping hurts. It's unfair to say the figs are just $20 bucks, when you have to pay shipping for each individual figure every month. It adds up. I can see myself making concessions down the road, but it will not be easy.

Once you add in the cost of shipping these aren't a great value... so I agree with the 2-star/average rating. Its worth it, but you don't feel like you're getting a deal either.

But having said that, I'd still prefer to buy one of these as opposed to 2 of the $15 figures available... so it all works out.

I think one thing people are not factoring into the cost here is the retail support as a middleman. The profit that Mattel would accumulate based on large retail or specialty shops ordering large quantities of product has to be made up per cost of the individual unit. Sure, there is not a lot of tooling fees or license fees but they are selling these things under extremely low runs where the DCUC figures are sold to every major comic store, department store, TRU, target or walmart. Even if they don't have many or are not constantly getting new product in, Mattel can use those vendors as a vehicle to move a lot of product that they can not on their own, and the lack of retail support is why they have to do this line like this in the first place.

I think people forget that the market for this line is almost 100% adult collectors on the internet which is the market that currently supports it.

That being said, yes they are expensive but I don't think Mattel is turning the profit you might expect.

Its cool. I think we get that its your opinion being your review. Nobody was trying to step on toes though. Just saying that many of us feel we're getting a deal with all costs involved. :duff

I think that may vary from collector 2 collector.

Well said Teemu :lecture

My $0.02
I do not miss the hunt at all. I like knowing when/where these come out. They could be a bit cheaper, but I justify the price in the not having to go around from store to store, and on top of that so many sales people are either unhelpful or clueless. This process so far has been relatively simple and painless, up until the MM epidemic which I think they'll definitely come to learn from rather than let happen again. That said, I really think they should offer two different figures a month because it would really help to balance things out a bit, shipping in particular.
