Those all sound like pretty good guesses. I sold off my first He-Man, Beast Man, and Skeletor figures (I still have two Skeletors, one opened and carded) and was leaning toward maybe just getting He-Man again and Hordak and calling it a day.

But Mattel has once again shown their utter awesomeness and devotion to both fans and MOTU history with the He-Ro announcement and so many great figures on the horizon I just might jump back into this line full steam. Sigh, decisions, decisions....

Why did u start getting outta this line Khev?

Yes u did choose wisely, I can't give u any troubles for choosing another great line! :lol

They're both great lines, but that image of multiple Cobra Troopers is just so striking to me that I've gotten pretty brutal in deciding what other figures/lines still make the cut.

The 4HM and Mattel really do seem to be catering to diehard MOTU fantasies with the new line, although they've definitely had some missteps.

King Grayskull is a terrible character and never should have been made. He's an idiotic 2002 MOTU dolt who's a bad ripoff of both He-Man and He-Ro. He-Ro was the civilized young wizard who battled Snakemen and dinosaurs in Pre-Eternia (circa 1987 story concepts) while He-Man is the rugged barbarian who battles Skeletor and the Evil Warriors in Eternia's present.

Enter King Grayskull, another power sword wielding barbarian who looks like He-Man AND fights dinosaurs in the past. He should have been left in 2002, Mattel should have started the line with He-Man and left He-Ro as the "hero" from the past. He-Ro's alter ego is even "Gray", so KG infringes on that aspect as well. And don't even get me started about his look. A He-Man clone with hair extensions and a cape? Reminds me of when Marty McFly would go to the future or the past and see alternate versions of himself that would also be played by Michael J. Fox, even the women. Just a terrible concept and figure that has no place in a "classic" MOTU collection. I know many fans of this line disagree, but there you go.

The "real names" have also made it very easy to NOT go MOC with this line. Open those suckers and display them with your DVD's or old box art.

Here's a post I made on www.he-man.org (that was edited by the mods because I used the words "stupid" and "dumb") in response to someone who said that "Squiddish Rex" was a cool name for Mer-Man because "Nobody - not even a fishlike species - would name their son Mer-Man.":

But they would name him Squiddish? Replacing a fish nickname with another fish nickname to add "realism" was a bad move IMO. It'd be like saying He-Man's real name is "Strongmanish Rex".

And Hek-tor is even worse. If Mattel can't think of a sufficiently appropriate alien name then the cards should say something like:

Hordak, Ruthless Leader of the Evil Horde
Real Name: UNKNOWN

That being said the figures themselves are fantastic. I love the sculpting, paint, and throwback designs. The joints could be a tad tighter though, my Skeletor has a somewhat loose left ankle joint and he'd be prone to falling over if his staff didn't allow for the "tripod" effect. Hopefully they made enough Mer-Mans that he really will be available for a week or two and the secondary prices can come down much closer to retail. I wouldn't want these figures to lose their value but I hate the idea of being a slave to preorder day every month because "if you don't get it now you'll have to pay twice as much later."
