I can't wait for the "begging" videos from Toyguru and others to please subscribe or die.....last year was pretty entertaining

You know they are going to wait till the last day to say "WE DID IT"..."WE WERE OVER BY 35%" "Thanks to you the true fans" ;)

anyways, just give me this year's lineup and Two-bad,Rio Blast,Strongarm...I could live without the rest

And unless the SDCC reveals are draw droopingly awesome, I think this years begging is going to be worse. There are only a handful of characters left that I want, and only 1, maybe 2 that I would consider must haves. I'm fine taking my chances and rolling the DOS dice. Though, I would not be surprised if they try to scare us with no Day of Sale at all this year, or significantly higher prices with "limited stock". Either way, I hope the people that still want the line can get the line, but I think this year will go through no matter what anyway.

We've been over this many times before but it's so disheartening how nasty they are to their fanbase and for me even more upsetting how people defend that kind of business practice.

The only way they can ensure the longevity of this line is to go with the subscription model and guarantee sales for an entire year up front. They don't have retail backing them by placing bulk orders months in advance for this product so they have to rely on the fans. If this line was at retail it wouldn't have lasted more than 1-2 years at best with no current media (the crappy DC comic doesn't count).

It sucks that we have to go through this hoopla from here on out, but with more attrition each year I don't see Mattel allocating any additional resources to the line to make the customer experience that much better. Digital River is not good, but I know what to expect from them at this point and I just hope we get 2 more full years to wrap up a lot of the characters people still want.

To be honest, at this stage in the game, the less shinanigans I know about the better.

If I didn't read press releases, didn't know about silly BS and just waiting for my figure every month, that would be best.

:lecture :exactly:

I feel the same way Eamon. I gave up on things improving a while ago. I just hope they can keep cranking out figures because nobody does MOTU like the Four Horsemen.

5-Will their any be a current subscriber sneak preview email for the MOTU items to be shown at SDCC like in the past?

Likely. Keep looking in your inbox!

With just over a week until Comic-Con kicks off, I wonder what figure(s) Mattel might reveal? Perhaps they'll show the final sculpt for Geldor or Sea Hawk which are all but confirmed for this year.

That plane ticket is going to be expensive if you decide to come. You got the hook-up for an SDCC badge? Those things are hard to come by.

Flight cost are the big issue.
I have free accomidation and I get free pro badges as I do relevant artwork!

Flights are £860 = $1300 approx!

Can you still register for pro badges? I thought you had to do that months in advance?

Also, those flight prices aren't as bad as I thought. I'm paying $500 just to fly to San Diego from Ohio and I booked mine in April.

Oh I did all the registration artist approval thingy ages ago so myself and my girlfriend are good to go.

My girfriend is not a geek so we are toying with staying a extra few days to catch some surf and check out Sea World! :)

Funny how all the other collector figure lines out there DON'T need a subscription model to keep producing figures. Seems more like Mattel just isn't very good at things like this.

Or they hate taking even minor risks and want to have a sure thing before going into production.

In a way,Mattel is smart

the Subscription ensures that all the crappy figures that people don't really want (aka star sisters) are guaranteed to be sold so that they are not stuck with mostly unsold product..

While customers did demand a Subscription of some sort,it actually helped Mattel guarantee sales and profit.Without the Sub,don't you think the Star Sisters set would of been a failure? It absolutely would of been as most have expressed they did not want them. But we bought in because of Fisto,Sorceress and Kobra Kahn (the figures people actually wanted)....Mattel isn't (business) stupid while they act like the Subs were the fans idea

they won't take risks unless there is a sure-sale...because MOTU classics is a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny line

What other collector lines are you referring to? Most of them are available at retail or a much larger online network than what Matty has setup for their collector lines.

Exactly. NECA, Sideshow, Mezco, Hot Toys, Gentle Giant, etc. etc. etc. all are smaller companies than Mattel, yet they've been able to make collector lines work with direct retail through either their own distribution or soliciting through Diamond or a similar means.

But like Teemu said, Mattel is smart. They've basically set up a system that allows them to produce whatever they want with guaranteed sales and no ramifications. They can make crappy characters, have crap QC, ridiculous pricing, etc. and yet people keep 'subbing up' every year.

I too am curious about what other lines you are referring to?

And do these have entertainment to support it? as MOTU does not have anything.

If you are going to weigh in with a like for like opinion, then make it like for like as it's no mean feat at all that MOTU has lasted for 6 years...again without any entertainment to support.

If you do have a equivalent line that we are all ears! ;)
