Castle Greyskull is the most clear example. It simply wasn't what was promised in very specific real terms.

CG is still a GREAT piece but it was definitely reduced to what was it advertised as....The Castle should of been bigger in size for sure

The hoverboard lenticular lie is my favorite straight up Neitlie:

The pink here, it's gonna be a hologram. It's gonna be that lenticular, shiny hologram that everybody's... y'know.

Scott Neitlich said:
We did not state the board would have a lenticular. This was never a feature we noted in any communication, especially when the props we reviewed did not have a lenticular.

Really didn't want to jump on the bandwagon but I'm going to as the hoverboard annoyed me too. Bought it for my wife as a present and within 6 months the massive stickers started peeling. Cant use hover features without scuffing the hover pads either. Overpriced chunk of plastic with a big sticker and velcro :gah:

I forgot about the Hover Board. LOL! Even Bob Gale (the co-writer of Back to the Future), who bought like 10 of them and endorsed it had to retract his endorsement and apologize to the fans because the final product was clearly no what was promised.

Where did you hear this rumor? That's all news to me.

Heard it on the He-Man World forums, apparently it was going around at one of the cons Neitlich attended. I can't personally confirm it, but it makes sense given Mattel's financial position at the time and Neitlich's desire to find new employment.

Also, I looked up Battle Ram Man's information about the "brand manager" being fired from Mattel and then re-hired as a contractor and he's got the wrong guy. It's the former CEO that this story is about, so Kuwahara I think your "sources" are bogus or they just put Scott's name in the story so they could say something else negative about him without knowing the truth.

Mattel Says Ex-CEO Stockton Was Fired - WSJ

That has nothing to do with the rumor I heard.

I don't think anyone knows what really happened except Neitlich and Mattel, and maybe a few other people who are sworn to secrecy. But I'll reiterate. If Neitlich was that much of a benefit to anything at Mattel, why fire him and make him a consultant? Why not promote the man? If Mattel demoted him so they could eliminate his benefits to save money, why? You don't do that to a brand manager who is doing SUCH a great job.

I have a scar in my hand from opening the Hoverboard. I kind of like it as the scar is BTTF related (this movie is clearly my favorite). If this would not have happened I would have been terribly disappointed with the HB. Truth is that Neitlich promised us everything minus hover ability and the stick that was originally pushed in the front that Marty removed, and we got a piece of trash. The best part of the Mattel HB is the box I think. Word is that there is a great 3rd partie HB around... :dunno

This being said, back to MOTU: I believe Scott was a good connection between the 4HM and Mattel. Lets face it: Scott wasnt the creative part in the team but the one who had to arbitrate between the design/ proto by the 4HM on the one side and the available budget on the other side (which usually resulted into cutting the design due to tol high costs).
He was most likely involved into character choice (I bet the 4HM were the ones telling him which characters they wanted to do next), but this has nothing to do with creativity.
The only creative stuff he did was the bios (nonsense) and Mighty Spector.
Nevertheless, I dont think he did a bad job. He just made himself look more important than he technically was. Granted, this isnt a bad abillity either. :lol

Another thing off the top of my head:

When Castle Grayskull was first revealed, there was a monster dungeon floor piece the 4H sculpted to go along with the castle. Neitlich specifically said the 4H sculpted it for fun, and it wasn't part of the castle. I think it can be found in one of his videos where he says this.

A friend of mine emailed the 4H to ask if this was true, they replied saying that it was not sculpted for fun and was designed to be an accessory for Castle Grayskull.

Later we found out that dungeon sculpt was used as part of the tooling for an Imaginext play set.

Which figure do you guys think has the best sculpt?

I ordered Moss Man on ebay, he'll be here next week. How does the flocking hold up? It looks pretty good in photos. The Moss Man I had when I was a kid definitely had some bald spots after some time, but of course I don't plan to play with this one.

Reportedly the flock comes off in water, so keep him dry.

As far as best sculpts go, some of the best are Mantenna, the new He-Man head that came with Oo-Larr, Fisto, Battle Cat, Ram Man, Man-at-Arms, Mer-Man, Beast Man, Kobra Khan, Castle Grayskull and all the vehicles.

MOTUC AND Matty collector were his babies.

Without him, it's likely that Neither would have happened.

Hate all you like, but at the very least, credit where credit is due.

Neitlich had nothing to do with the creation of Masters of the Universe Classics. Certainly he ran it.

I love Mantenna, that could have easily turned into a train wreck in production but it came out great. Only thing I had to do was put a bit of clear coat on the weirdly chalky matte finish of the orange on his torso.

I've found that to be the case. People either love him or hate him. It's hard to get a read on the guy. I've watched a few of his videos. It seems like people take the most issue with Mattel's subscription policy. I'm not one to subscribe to a toy line before I know what figures they're releasing, so I can understand why people didn't dig that.

Do any of you guys own the classics castle greyskull? How do you feel about the scale? Seems a few inches shorter than the prototype.

It looks a bit undersized inside. The floor should have been much thinner, there would have been much more space. Externally I think the scale looks just fine. It's really a great item, I don't think I'd even bother collecting Classics without a Grayskull as well.

Imo that's the head which should have come with he-man in the first place.

Customers have a right to be BITTER when they are told by the "Businessman" that a $250 plastic Castle is going to have this and that, then pulls the old bait and switch after he get's all their money. Then raises the price to $300.

Let's not forget that everyone who preordered was guaranteed the $250 price point and they were given several months to cancel if they weren't satisfied once the final production piece was revealed. The higher price for day of sales was always in the plans and clearly advertised to help promote the preorders. Yes it's disappointing that the original scale and all the features weren't included with Grayskull but nobody was locked in to their preorder.

That has nothing to do with the rumor I heard.

Interesting that it's the same story line. I'm not sure who the sources are regarding Scott's circumstances leaving Mattel, but I would be curious to find out.
