It will be interesting to see how Mattel handles this, if they handle it. This item is not in the sub so they are going to have to fix this if they want it to sell.

I'm thinking the Point Dread tower was sculpted by Mattel rather than the 4HM, it just doesn't look like something they would make.

Regardless of the soft sculpt, the design and engineering are a complete failure as well, without any forethought whatsoever.

Imagine that thing attached to the top of the castle tower, from the back it will took absolutely terrible with those extra unneeded walls. Plus once PD is attached to the castle, the computer console, (which is badly designed, sculpted and executed) WILL NOT FIT IN THE CASTLE!!!!! Plus why is it black? None of the other computers in CG are black, they are silver. Even in the mini-comic the computers in PD are silver.

The steps that run up to the top of the tower are way too small as well, there is no way a figure could stand on them. Jesus, I could go on for days.

I'm starting to think I should come out of retirement and get a job at Mattel.

Why waste your time working for Mattel? Everything you make/sculpt they will just shrink it down

Just make your own (like you have been doing) just like all these other customizing free lancer's do

The original Point Dread had a computer console made out of card stock, and it was all black. Still, the console that is coming with this set is pretty lame. This whole set was just a huge missed opportunity to make it really special. The Talon Fighter appears to be the only thing that's salvageable, assuming that doesn't arrive damaged with missing parts like the Battle Ram did for many customers.

The legendary (not a) Toyguru has once again reached out for attention on the .borg:

"I know a lot of folks are analysing the current situation with a fine tooth, so perhaps some info to illuminate:

1) the whole "show the full year's line up" is not something initiated by the current "day to day" team (or Kim and Mark). This is direction from the new upper management. Matty not only got a new day-to-day team (which is actually mostly made up of folks who were on my team, like Kim) but at the same time (a week before I resigned) all of Mattel boys got a new upper management.

This new upper managent is the group to thank (or give credit to) for the ability to show the full year's line up at sell in. Had I still been at Mattel, it would have been "me" revealing the full year's line up at Sdcc per direction of the new upper management.

The new team is handling day to day opperations and sales management of the line, but it is the new boys upper managent that came in a week before I resigned that is responsible for changes like being able to reveal the full year's line up.

If that helps put all the changes into perspective and clarify where these choices/abilities are coming from.

You will really see the new team in full swing with their 2017 line. I left full details and was there for all the pre work on 2016 (ie character selection, the Filmation Sub, snake mt, thundercats, etc...) the new team is executing on the plans I helped work on. By 2017 you will see a full line by the new team (again with the sell in direction from the new upper management).

MOTUC had four different upper managements since launch in 2008, some were pro 200x, others against it. The current upper management which started right before I left should get the credit for allowing customers to see the full year's line up at sub buy in. If I was still at mattel it would have been me selling in the full year's line up at Sdcc due to the new management making this option avail. This isn't something the new "day to day" team was able to do based on just being there. It came from the new upper management's direction to whomever was in the driver's seat at the time of sub sell in (which in the case of 2016 was the "new team, which really is the old team minus me and adding a new director Mark, who added Matty to his large profile of brands after I left.)

Hope this helps!"

So, the guy doesn't even work at Mattel anymore, but he makes a point TWICE to let us know that if he we're still at Mattel, it would have been HIM that does this or does that. LOL! Not only does he take credit for all the good things and pass the buck on the bad things, he does it in the hypothetical perspective. WOW!

Huh. The way I read it, he was beholden to the shifting whims of upper management. He doesn't seem to be taking any credit at all, instead he has articulated why some things have changed.

"Upper management" has always been his excuse for everything, mainly the screw ups. In the past and even now he's pretty quick to take full credit for anything the fans deem to be spectacular, but places blame on his bosses when there are product issues or places the blame on customers when sales aren't meeting their expectations. He can't have it both ways, either upper management is in full control or the brand manager is.

That is a binary assessment, life is never black and white, nor has he claimed total control of the line.

There are some things he had control over, and there are things that the upper management passed down. It's the nature of business.

When a person only takes credit for the good things and not the bad, something isn't right. Scott is the FOUNDER of mattycollector, and he ran the line 100%. I'm sure upper management had an influence in one way or another, but ultimately it was HIM that ran the show and he is responsible for most of the problems with this line. Not once has he ever admitted blame and always passed it off to someone else. When the fans cheer for something they like, Scott always took credit for it.

I don't know why he's speaking on behalf of the new team all the time, but once again he's basically saying it's all on upper management, when the real issue seems to be that Kim has no idea how to manage the line and is cost cutting more than Scott ever did. The Talon Fighter playset and Teela 2.0 is proof that something has gone terribly wrong and the new team is to blame, not the bean counters.

I get it, you don't like Scott and I can understand why many people, including myself, have been very frustrated with some of the things he has said in the past. However his recent comment was more factual rather than seeking any kind of credit for the changes, so your hyperbolic tirade seems misplaced. Save your angst for when he actually says something stupid and then I'll be right there by your side.

Anyone here got an actual email address I can write to that actually goes to someone competent and not some customer service rep at digitalriver? Coz everytime I email [email protected] or use the customer service form at matty, they keep me running around in circles.

Whatever dude, I don't agree with you but I respect your opinion, except for the part about me being hyperbolic and spinning it as just another hate post. I think we can do without posting negative opinions about other forum members don't you think? At any rate, nothing he says is ever "factual", that should have been learned 8 years ago.

So Point Dread was sculpted to be indistinguishable from the soft kiddy style of the original?

Interesting design choice but out of place in Classics.

I don't see how this can sell quantities on par with the Battle Ram considering the higher cost and substandard quality.

So has Mattel intentionally planned to justify no more vehicles and playsets because you know if these don't move they'll blame it on us and not accept responsibility?

And how on Earth can you justify giving them money for Snake Mountain now that you have seen this? I'm sure the 4H sculpted the mountain but their plans will be compromised by Mattel design seeking cost savings and profits.

This appears to truly be the end of Classics. I'm sorry to add negatively to the forum. I had such joy handling my Classics Saurod in person, a figure I never had in my youth, but the end of the line just looks rushed and cheap.

It was a good ride.

Just read this response on he-man.org when asked if international customers would be able to receive Snake Mountain.

At the present time we are still bound by European law regarding shipping products with electronics to Europe, but we are doing our best to figure out how to get these items to you.

If European fans are denied this playset so that a speaker can be added for Matty's domestic customers I will be pissed

After sleeping on it you're probably right. Guess I immediately went to worse case scenario due to my low confidence in Matty at the moment. They should have something figured out long before then since the He-Man & Skeletor 2 pack has electrical components and they need a solution to be able to ship that to subscribers.

Or perhaps they are purposely adding electronics specifically to avoid selling them outside the CONUS. We're talking about a company that constantly Geo-blocks people from buying their product.

After seeing the Point Dread disaster, I no longer have confidence Mattel will make Snake Mountain right anyway. The quality in their products is worse than ever IMO.

"At the present time we are still bound by European law regarding shipping products with electronics to Europe, but we are doing our best to figure out how to get these items to you."

So with that logic, how are European subscribers going to get the laser figures, aren't they part of the sub?
