Yep. It was originally coming out as brown and the SDCC was going to be an exclusive repaint variant. Ironically, the original figure got cancelled/delayed the the "variant" ended up being the only figure. I was *this* close to passing on him at SDCC because I knew the brown was coming (at the time), but I was so glad I picked him up after I heard the brown was cancelled.
Rumor is though that he might be apart of the next wal-mart wave

Yeah seriously. Mattel promised at the panel that there would be "MUCH better distribution" for the next exclusive wave. We'll see about that. They're basically admitting that they messed up the first wal-mart wave distribution big time.

Well I did find my entire set at Wal-mart so I guess I really can't complain, but I only saw them ONCE and grabbed them all (luckily they had them all!). I sure hope the promise of better distribution is true. Heck, as long at Wal-mart.com gets enough I'll be happy. Site to store is wonderful.

I've more or less given up on this line... I can never find them, and i don't have the money to kep collectiong them... but the joker Is a MUST!
Just a heads up, Cornerstorecomics has series 9 up for pre-order. Both with and without the variants (Robo Mantis and Blue Wildcat). Ordered with the variants

They said they sold all 150 sets within 12 hours, and most of that was during the night! No wonder we can't find these things in stores! Look at the demand! I don't think Mattel can ever pull "that character won't sell" card since there are some very obscure characters in this wave.
And just and FYI, if anyone didn't know, Series 7 is being shipped in "half sets" with "all star" re-releases thrown in to fill up the cases. So only Flash, Capt Cold, Big Barda, and Kid Flash are out right now. Camo Aquaman, Blue Beetle, and Booster gold are in the second half. That is why I odered this set online, where they get FULL cases of each CHARACTER. Sure, it might take a bit longer but it beats hunting half a set at a time. Series 8 will also be like this and likely 9 too.

I have just gone throgh this entire thread. No one has even mentioned any difficulty in getting a Red Tornado (modern) I have the entire set of waves thru wave 6 in hand and wave 7 on pre-order, but no Red Tornado (modern) I have been looking for this chase Red Tornado since day one. Am I the only one that can'nt find him?

Not all the cases are "half sets."
There is actually 4 different cases for this wave including a case that includes 1 of each new character plus 1 repack which I think is Batman. I believe this is the exclusive case Mattel made for online stores. The one case with the first half of the new figures is the only one that's been released so far but the other 3 will be out by March.
But still. Either way you have to wait for the other half and even when those hit you might find the left over 1st half that gets left behind. I just felt it was much easier this way.
But online stores are definately getting in solid cases of each character. The other one might be their "case" orders. I don't know.

Thanks for the help. I'm just wondering why this fact was never mentioned on the DCUC website you maintain? This site has been my guide for this series. You told use that the Robot Penguin was a prototype and was cancelled, but nothing about Red Tornado. I even went so far as to buy a so called "variant" off eBay only to find it was no such thing.
I don't have a website so I have no idea what you are talking about.But much like the Robot Penguin, Modern Red Tornado was shown, but never actually made. There is a good chance we will see him in a box set, 2 pack, all star, or on Matty though. So you can rest for now.
Man, Barda isn't even tall next to Cold. Mattel really blew that. She looks great regardless.
I need Flash and Captain Cold. I found the Shazam wave at Wal Mart the other day sans Superman but only wanted Capt. Marvel and Hawkman. Hawkman is real boss; an excellent looking figure. I passed on the two Killer Moths I found due to there shabby paint jobs. I will try to locate another one of those asap.
