Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

Ummm...

Protosuit Batman, Bank Robber Joker, Two-Face, and Jail Cell Joker are no longer available for preorder on Entertainment Earth. I believe that's the last nail in the coffin.

This sucks. Sure, HT has better products, but I'm lucky to even own two of them! They're so much money. This makes my custom figures more valuable and may entice me to attempt another Bank Robber Joker figure.

Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

Well that sucks, oh well, guess we're lucky we at least got the Batpod.

Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

I'd heard the line had done well enough the four horsemen were sculpting more figures beyond the announced ones. But if they are being pulled, then maybe I'm right about them ending up as Matty exclusives.

Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

That sucks but at least we might still be able to get them (unlike Hasbro's Indy line). Course I'd rather pay the $10 to $11 in store as opposed to the $20 plus shipping I'm sure Matty will charge. Oh well.

But if it no longer makes Harvey Dent a "chase" figure, then I'll be happy :D

Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

Granted I'd like to see the full line available, but at minimum I'd like to get Two-Face.

Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

Well if this is true then it really stinks. The thing I find weird is that prototypes have already popped up on eBay, so it really looked like these were going to make it into production.

Can you post a link to those prototypes?

The way the economy is though, things can take a turn in a very short time. They may have been moving along with these and very recently run into issues and reevaluated cost/benefit of the line and said screw it, not worth it to do this. I love the line, but I've also seen a number of the figures warm the pegs, even Batmans, not like goons and Cranes who might not be as popular. If Ledger hadn't died, I'm sure even Jokers would warm pegs but scalpers went nuts gather those up.

I hope this is the case. I can afford the jacked up prices. Batman is now the only thing I collect these days. If these are now "Matty exclusives," does that mean they can make characters that might not do so well in stores rather than making a million variations of Batman and/or Joker? I'm thinking Lucius and Alfred right now. Gordon and Ra's too but I think they might have had a chance in the stores as well.

That would be cool. Give us a chance to get Gordon, Ra's, Alfred, etc. They do a great job on MOTU and I think the Movie Masters line could be success as Mattycollector item.

Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

This is where you I have to mention the MotU Classic line again...

Yes, it is more likely that we will get those characters through Matty BUT at the moment we should be happy if we get all the figures that have been already shown. But if these sell as good as the He-Man figs or even better I doubt that Mattel would not be willing to continue the line as it would fit very nice to Matty (at the moment they haveGhostbuster, He-Man, DC Universe and JLU and they want to do some more *Thundercats*)...

Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

It's amazing how much they improved the face sculpt on the joker from that first version. It's obvious even in the prototype.

Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

As I've posted elsewhere, here's where I stand with the cancellation.

I'm going to be optimisitc and go as far as saying that Mattel didn't cancel this line. We'll see these in August/September and at retail. This whole mattycollector and cancellation rumor was made by the collective of fans online.

Remeber that whole "Oh the Movie Masters Joker figure was recalled because he was too scary for children so Mattel made a second version with a kid friendly sculpt."? Never happened. Rumor formed because of the Internet and paranoia.

Or how about that whole Michael Keaton Movie Masters 1989 Batman? People for a few days were hyped up and praised Mattel for what they thought was an upcoming figure. Some idiot made that whole thing up and people bought it!

This is the same thing. Mattel hasn't stated where the line stands. They never stated that it would become a mattycollector exclusive, we did. They never released information that it was cancelled, people did. We're just getting carried away and speculating because we lack patience. It's all assumptions. People think they have all the answers and think they know how this all works. They don't.

There's no evidence that suggests that there's a cancellation, that they're matty exclusives or that they're coming out.

1.) Protos are leaking everyday
2.) A few months back there were FINISHED, CARDED versions of the Arkham Scarecrow and Sonar Batman.
3.) TRU just put up their preorder for the 2-Up Joker
4.) EE is the only one that dropped them, they're not reliable with carrying their figures anyway. Retail always beats them to it as they are too late.
5.) Nothing OFFICIAL has been stated.

All this speculation and people are buying it. It's kind of scary that people are so easily swayed.

These were slated for a summer release. It's not summer yet. Only time will tell.

Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

Gentlemen, time to spread the word. And the word is panic.

Agree completely with you DiFabio

Gentlemen, time to spread the word. And the word is panic.

Kind of off topic there

Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

It just wouldn't make sense, from a business standpoint, to release them at this point. I would assume they aren't coming based purely on that, but then, Mattel ain't exactly a collective of business geniuses.

Re: Mattel Movie Masters Thead

You're right in saying Mattel hasn't said anything, but EE getting rid of them could be a sign they were canceled. I had a 1/6 Apollo from BSG on preorder once and after months and months of being pushed back, they refunded my money and said that Majestic Studios had canceled the product. I'm going off prior experience here. If they were indeed coming out later, they'd just change the release date as they did with my order so many times.

Saw a "prototype" of Bruce Wayne in spelunking gear during a recent toy run in Hong Kong. The ski mask is made of rubber and fits onto the head quite nicely.

No, I think it fits horribly. They shoulda made two versions. One masked, one unmasked. The mask looks giant on him and I find that a letdown because I'd wanna display this figure with the ski mask on. I'm gonna have to customize this one I think. If we ever get it...
