Actually, it is the truth.

I'm sorry, but it's not. The GAO report revealed 25% of the companies paying no taxes topped $50 million in receipts or $250 million in assets. And we may differ on this, but even a $5 million business is hardly a mom-n-pop operation.

If we can keep this civil this might be a worthwhile thread.

In the next couple of months they have to spin Palin as the next Hillary so that they can get the anti-Obamites to cross the line. But they also have to spin her as a conservative balance to McCain's more centrist leanings.

I'm glad I'm not working for the Republican party's PR firm.

Whatever the government tries to do to help middleclass jobs probably isn't enough. Its got to be a cultural thing. Specifically an economic cultural thing.

If you can earn 7% returns by investing in a company that hires Americans, maybe thats better than a 9% return from a company that hires Chinese.

Unfortunately, the majority of owners of stocks funnel through corporations themselves (mutual funds, banks, etc) so its corportations making decisions on corporations. Its all statistics and no soul.

Whats unfortunate is if I invented the greatest new product but wanted to build the factory here and hire 10,000 employees at a decent wage all my potential investors will freak and go invest in some cheaply made Chinese built product.

I agree. Basically it requires business owners to put country before greed. With all the talk of patriotism you'd think this would already be on the agenda.

Socialized health care (i.e., no health care at all), rampant illegal immigration, no school choice for parents who want their children to get a real education (as opposed to the tripe that passes for public education), $10/gallon gasoline, a much-too-soft approach to the war on terror, expansion of abortion "rights" laws to new obscene levels, significant tax increases. And those are just the things that spring immediately to mind.

Despite what democrats seem to believe, Obama is a very divisive candidate. Of course, the press (judging by Chris Matthews' orgasmic reaction to Obama's speech last night) will spin all of these things into wonderful positives.

Robodad,

I know that Dems are usually pegged as the tax hikers but didn't Obama mention last night that he would give tax cuts to 95% of Americans? He also stated that he would elimanate the Capitla Gains Tax. To me Obama speaks more of a pro business platform than most Dems and many Republicans do.

In addition He seems to want to shift focus on "The War on Terror" from Iraq to Afghanistan and Pakistan. I know that some Hawks wouldn't deign to talk to Iran face to face as Biden suggests but it could be a start. Bill Kristol himself said on Fox News that he loved Obama's speech.

Smart? Has the best interest of the country? Realizes that Obama is not what this country needs? Or were you just gonna put an ignorant ol name in there in this basically civilized thread.

Totally agree Darklord dave on the potential for thoughtful discussion on this thread.
