What exactly does McCain want?

Thats my biggest unknown. I just assume since I never hear it that he wants to continue the same agendas at home which have aided in leading to a recession.

Aside from appeasing our fears of terror, whats he doing for everyday blokes losing jobs and houses?

Socialized health care (i.e., no health care at all), rampant illegal immigration, no school choice for parents who want their children to get a real education (as opposed to the tripe that passes for public education), $10/gallon gasoline, a much-too-soft approach to the war on terror, expansion of abortion "rights" laws to new obscene levels, significant tax increases. And those are just the things that spring immediately to mind.

Despite what democrats seem to believe, Obama is a very divisive candidate. Of course, the press (judging by Chris Matthews' orgasmic reaction to Obama's speech last night) will spin all of these things into wonderful positives.

I think that is a skewed way to look at what he plans to do...

Last night I went to see my Grandma, she was watching FoxNews(I know..:horror). She looks at my Wife and I and says...

"Obama is going to allow abortions... The Catholics are upset about it, I'm a Catholic you know... If you two want to be good Catholics, and go to heaven, you best not vote for Obama!"

I almost replied...

"Good thing I'm not Catholic." :lol

But I didn't. It still shocked me a bit, and revealed more of what I don't like about politics and the Spin media. Poor Grandma. :lol

YOu wanna talk about socialized medicine? Lets examine the German model and then you can tell me socialist medicine = no health care at all.

What is he supposed to do for those "blokes"? How is the government supposed to guarantee jobs and housing for everyone?

Socialized health care (i.e., no health care at all)

Obama has been explicit he is not interested in dismantling private health care. He simply wants to give all Americans the option to enjoy the same coverage provided to Congress. Your view on socialized health care is also at odds with the real world experience of Western nations with state systems.

rampant illegal immigration

Yep. Just like under Bush. And just like under McCain.

no school choice for parents who want their children to get a real education

You are free to send your child to any school you want.

$10/gallon gasoline

Can you be specific? You do realize not a single McCain proposal will lower gas prices within the lifetime of his presidency, right?

a much-too-soft approach to the war on terror

Can you be specific?

expansion of abortion "rights" laws to new obscene levels

Can you be specific?

significant tax increases

The only proposed tax increases are on the wealthy and big business, which incidentally scarcely pays tax at all right now.

Pixletwin said he would gladly pay more taxes to get Obama in. And being that Russia is now flexing it's military muscle as much now as it did in the Cold War, Obama will just talk to them and get them to start dismantling their Nuclear program. This is of course after we lead by example. And he will also make the world a much safer place by slashing military spending by Billions. We all know that the whole world is just a big ol peaceful place and the US is the aggressors. And he is only going to raise taxes on the top 5 percent. Of course, they will not really lose that money. They will just raise the prices of all the durable goods they produce to offset that. I'm sure they will send more jobs overseas also to recoup some of that loss.

What a moron! I would have thought he would be smart and picked Romney. Man, I really can't predict who will win know. Both candidates picked stupid VPs which gives neither of them the edge.

Its sad when you can't pick the best running mate just because he is Mormon. :(

A thought experiment: if Texas seceded and the White House sent the army in to reclaim it, would you accuse America of flexing its military muscle?

We all know that the whole world is just a big ol peaceful place and the US is the aggressors.

You are aware we're currently occupying a nation that did nothing to us?

I know. He by far seemed the best candidate to me, but I think him being Mormon made a lot of people think twice about him. But the thing I liked best about Romney is that he always answered the question when someone asked him something. Most of the other guys would sidestep the question and not even answer it. Huckabee was the worst at that! I know Romney asked Huckabee the same question three times in a row (did you raise taxes?) and he woudn't answer it. He just went on to say how he built roads.

But this Alaskan Govenor? Never even heard of her. Really dumb choice. I wouldn't be surprised if Obama wins now. McCain really needed a good VP choice to stay in this race, and he blew it.

I think they need to discourage companies from sending all the jobs to China. American needs to learn how to do non-service industry jobs again.

Who or what has driven those away I don't know, but I think we need a strong middleclass rather than everyone either being an IT expert making $100,000 or a burger flipper making $10,000.

People making $50,000 a year shouldn't be hurting.

Georgia hasn't been a part of Russia since the USSR broke up. Is that what you are talking about? As far as occupying Iraq. Saddam Hussien opened himself up to invasion at any time since he failed to follow the resolutions set forth after Gulf War 1. Did you have a problem with Bill Clinton firing on Saddams troops during his presidency?

Fair enough. I agree that companies should be encouraged not to send jobs overseas (whether it be to China or Bangalore). The problem is that there are really only two ways to accomplish that, either penalize companies that do it or reward companies that don't.

I'm not sure I would agree with taking punitive action against companies that do send jobs overseas. That smacks just a bit too much of isolationism.

And, while I would welcome incentives to encourage companies to create more jobs here, the best way to do that is tax breaks, which I really don't see happening with our current Congress.

Oh, and FWIW, making $100,000/year is still squarely in the middle class today. Six figures ain't what they used to be.

I believe in Obama's speech he even touched on the idea of rewarding corporations that keep jobs here.

He did, but you know they were empty words. Congress would never support give tax breaks to evil corporations. They must be taxed out of existence. ;)

Back on the original topic, I'm listening to Sarah Palin speak right now, and I am hearing one more reason NOT to vote for her. I am sick and tired of people who use the words EYEraq, EYEran, an nucular. If you're going to be a public speaker, learn how to freaking speak!

Georgia hasn't been a part of Russia since the USSR broke up.

I should have constructed my analogy more carefully. If part of Texas then broke away from the seceded state and asked the White House for a peacekeeping presence, would you accuse America of flexing its military muscle? I don't think what's happening in Georgia is as simple as that, but neither is it an example of unprovoked or unilateral Russian aggression.

As far as occupying Iraq. Saddam Hussien opened himself up to invasion at any time since he failed to follow the resolutions set forth after Gulf War 1. Did you have a problem with Bill Clinton firing on Saddams troops during his presidency?

I did. But the fact remains it is not without reason the world sees the US as an aggressor and we need to face up to that and accept responsibility for it. We invaded a sovereign nation that had done nothing to us. If that's not aggression then I want your dictionary.

How do you give tax breaks to the two-thirds of US business that already pay no taxes (as per a GAO study)?
