Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

what are you saying, those were out of the box pictures (from a friend of mine on a belgian forum)
nothing fabricated or mnipulated

thing is, I do not believe that when making the same kind of pictures: same lightning and angles, from the new HT DX, the figure won't give such a bad impression as it does here.

+ most of the nicer pictures of the Medicom were adjusted versions of the medicom

Not an accusation just an observation. I am thinking like others have said the head can become misshapen due to the material it is composed of.
I remember with the old Mego figures (and others) that if you squeeze the head while putting it on it would be elongated and odd looking and stay that way for a bit because of the vacuum created. Even just squeezing it while attached would cause the deformity.
I have one on the way so I will have to check it out and see whats going on because so far it almost looks like two different heads which I know can't be the case.

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

where are you buying your figure from??
I got mine from studio sunny on ebay it was £95 + £25 postage
delivered in 5 days, no customs, no royal mail charge, no VAT
straight to my door
Is BBTS' shipping anything like that?

Never bought anything form abroad before. but ideally I wouldn't want to use ebay as I don't have paypal. So using just my credit card on the BBTS website seems the best option for me!

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

The head isn't that soft as you make out, mkcc30. Squeezing/holding it taking the head off wouldn't do that. Nowhere near that extent. It takes more pressure to squeeze it to get it to that effect. You'd need a lot of pressure or force to do that.

As an example to expand the head squeezing it was very difficult. One, it was quite rigid. Two it bounced back to it's original shape very slowly, if there was any movement.

I had to keep it in a bowl of boiling water for 40 seconds to two minutes before it became finger squeezable. As it's like some form of hard rubber. Then you could put it in it's rightful position. Not only that, the photos Riko posted is like the effect the box had been squashed to some extent. The clear holder in the packaging holds the head. So any heavy weights or such would do that. I actually turned those parts inside out on my box so it would never touch the head.

https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=MED10229&mode=retail for £95? no chance. In fact $174 without shipping sadly, works out to £106. I can't remember what my postage came to with BBTS last time...

Ah I paid $49.74 shipping from BBTS for the Batman Begins v2. Which is about £30 at todays rate.

I didn't think so but just threw it out there as a possibility.
I just got mine about an hour ago (fastest shipping from Japan i have EVER seen) $130 shipped!:D I noticed, as you said, that the head is much too firm to be squished by normal force.

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

I just can't dig it. He looks too much like a toy. Maybe I'm just a Hot Toys whore, but I can't see why there's even even question between the two. I don't know. Maybe this one looks better in hand, but based on photos, medicom's just doesn't work for me.

That's okay. I think from an unbiased perspective (I own every Hot Toys TDK figure and this single Medicom Batman) I can say with confidence that IMO the Medicom is not only more accurate than HT TDK V1, but also has the better headsculpt. Now, I am comparing accuracy, and headsculpt, not quality (Hot Toys always uses better materials). And also I am not comparing this to the DX since it is too early for that. Look at some of Magnuz's photos or Jun's. In any case, when I opened up the box I was blown away by the figure. I am certain it looks better out of the box than in some photos. I am sorry to say...I now think very little of my Hot Toys TDK V1. But this great figure does not excuse for their horrid Joker. I still plan on getting the DX from Hot Toys and finding something to do with the HT TDK V1 Fatman...uh..I mean Batman (oops...typo :D)

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

also here is a picture of the painted head and since I received this I have done the head widening mod which was very easy. I just covered the head in a towel and then aimed a blow dryer at it for about 8 seconds and then lightly sqeezed the front of the head and the back of the head together and once it cooled off it stayed like that.

Can you post more pics of that?

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

here are the best pics I could get after taking a bunch. My camera is old and will be getting a new one next month but until then this is the best.

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

Sorry to bump this thread again, I'm new, so forgive me. I'm looking to pick up the Medicom DK and was wondering if there is anyone here in the UK capable of doing a face repaint. Failing that, could someone suggest exactly what paint to use, colours, etc? Many thanks!

I would PM small_studios who did my repaint which is shown above.

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

holy moly. Has that head been widened as well? Waiting to get mine back from Small studios...

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

yes, the head has widened up and repainted the mouth and eyes. i love those eyes. they look so deep and so real. can't find any words how thankful I am that rismo has done this for me.

I'm so excited to have him in my hand. with lou's cape and this head, it will be maybe my favourite figure. Every second of waiting was worth for it...

And I hope you will be satisfied with smalls' repaint too. I'm sure it will look wonderful :)

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

Thanks Thrustmaster - also, can you tell me what method you used to widen the head? I was going to stuff it with something but your's looks pretty perfect, so curious to know what you did

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

rismo has done this for me. i think he has done it with heating it at the bottom and formed it than as it is now.

I've tried it for myself with heat before but it always goes to it's standart form after 30 minutes :monkey5 so I asked rismo for this.

he told me that it will stay in this form. i really hope so, the shape looks really perfect. but if not, I would cut it on the bottom and would put some foam or cotton into it. like the mod of the neck. just put as many cotton to it until it stay in this form how you have wanted it.
