Looks like the bike might be sturdier than I thought.
I was at work in Saitama when the BIG quake hit on Friday. I've been in a few earthquakes before, believe me when I say I'd never felt ANYTHING like this!
I wasn't able to get back home to Chiba until Saturday afternoon. I went in and found all my toys on the floor, including Kaneda and his Bike. The red plastic pieces were scattered. Tetsuo, surprisingly, was still kinda standing.
It was only a one foot drop, give or take a few inches. But I carefully examined it and put it back together. I didn't even notice any scratches! Even Kaneda was fine, and he's super fragile.
But I realized in the following hours how selfish and petty my little problems were as I finally saw on the TV just how devastating this disaster was. I was lucky. DAMN lucky. There are so many people up north that lost lives, loved ones and EVERYTHING they own. My biggest inconvenience was sleeping on the train station floor for one night.
My town is fine...looks the same, like nothing ever happened. All my friends are worried about me, but other than feeling the quake, I am OK. If the nuclear plant thing spreads, that may be a different story though....I am more than a little worried about that...
It's a risk one takes living in Japan. Earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes....something bad could happen at any time.
But isn't that true of ANY place on earth??
