Bad deal if we have to repaint a 60€ figure to resemble the paint job of its promo pics.
Although some people insist on speaking well of MAFEX, in general they are bad figures, in many aspects. Certainly there are exceptions like Boba Fett, but that does not give them any credit. This Kylo Ren is another proof of the bad habits of Medicom. Stop having faith in them. It is just an advice.

Fair enough, however I think Figuarts gets away with a lot of things mafex doesn't. For example, Figuarts, at least for their armoured figures, have awful proportions. The new Rogue One Stormtrooper looked awful, like a bad drawing of a stormtrooper helmet, and yet you have people going bananas for it because its made well with good articulation. The thing Mafex does a lot better than Figuarts with is accuracy and proportions, but it seems that isn't on top of most peoples lists when it comes to figures.

Thats so accurate. SHF is generally more stylised and less accurate, but better build and quality. Mafex is usually SUPER accurate, but the execution is often lacking. Just look at the mark 47 AOU iron man, mafex is way more accurate than the SHF, but the SHF has nicer (not necessarily more accurate though) paint, and better build quality

The problem with any line is when, aside of it's own designs, the resolution is wrong, in reference of sculpt, paint job, assembly, materials and articulation functionality. This happens usually with Black Series and MAFEX. The original concepts, proportions, paints, etc. are really fine, good or even brilliant, but those never come true whth the final product. Instead, we get poor paint jobs, soft materials, loose joints, even bad hidden designs that were not shown on promo pics, like the recent MAFEX Kylo, with a surrealist inner body, far away from any human proportion, or the annoying hood and tunic, etc...

Now talk about SHF figuarts. Ok, you don't like their armored characters, but the figure execution is absolutely amazing, almost perfect in some figures. That's all! give us what we expect to get. MAFEX doesn't gives us that in most of the cases, SHF does in most of the cases.

And, let me say, SHF RO Stormtooper is amazing.

^^ Yes. I got over my dislike of the SHF FO Trooper design just by posing the figure once. I've found that balance between screen accuracy and killer posable figurines in my collection. Just last night, I was rearranging my display and Mafex 3PO toppled over, dozens of pieces scattering across my floor. Now, I'll still probably pick up the Mafex Phasma and super glue a stand to her (and 3PO at this point). In her case, I'm ok with a less-articulated figure for the sake of finish and size. But I don't know if I'm gonna be happy about it haha

Again, Figuarts have far high standards of build quality, but if I'm looking for accuracy they don't do anything for me outside of their human characters, (which are of course across the board fantastic). If you like the stylised look (not exactly saying it's Revoltech by any means) then their armoured figures will be perfect to you, but they're simply too wonky looking to me personally to enjoy.

Oh and I figured I'd just mention:

All I'm wanting is that we maybe apply the same levels of standards to both companies?

No, no... I prefer the realistic look of MAFEX, of course. What I say is that if I have to choose, I prefer the stylized look with good execution of SHF than an acurate look with poor execution. I actually would buy every MAFEX figure if were exactly like the promo pics, but they do not are, only Boba Fett.
I mean, SHF are not bad looking, just "non-acurated", free interpretations. MAFEX are good looking, but a disaster as final product.
I don't know, seems like the new Phasma is getting positive feedback afterall... lets see...

Ooooh man... you're going wrong. You can't use one single example as an argument. When a MAFEX figure is bad, all the copies are bad. This SHF Han Solo is perhaps an error, that happens, but the quality on most of the samples are right. I've received two SHF Han Solo today and both are 100% fine, almost perfect!
I can't say the same about my MAFEX figures, 75% were disappointing or had some production errors.
I can talk because I have experiences with both companies, so, in terms of final production quality, SHF wins, by far.

Hmm, I don't know. I've had more than my fair share of production issues with Figuarts so far in their Star Wars line, mostly involving incredible weak smaller parts that have broken almost straight out of the box (and the odd complete miss of a figure, like the Phase 2 clone troopers). I think my main worry is that Figuarts quality control has taken a slight dip recently, whereas Mafex are, on average, improving. And Mafex have had a few more great figures outside of Boba. I'd even argue that even with the unmasked head being as "meh" as it is, the Kylo Ren turned out really well. I think there's two things at play here as well. Figuarts simply are better at making/producing the figures, but also it's harder to achieve the look that Mafex is trying to (and often failing to) achieve.

Hey people... this thread is a desert...

I would like to see a photo shoot of all the MAFEX figures from The Force Awakens: First Order Stormtrooper + Kylo Ren + Captain Phasma

Also, some comparisons with Bandai kits versions of those.
