Yeah, I wanted the HT alien to be in scale w/Dallas and Kane, but it's just too stylized for my taste...this medicom is one sexy piece of ass...unfortunately it's small.

Damn you world, so close to getting an in scale awesome giger alien.
Where did that dude get his for $70ish USD -- at that price I'd just bite the bullet and buy it.

Right, so here's my WIP Medicom Alien repaint.
As always, my buddy Fabio has been doing the honors.

As we started this project, we just decided to go one step at a time, since he's not an expert in things Alien and I can't paint to save my life. We basically sat down with a blank canvas and no clear plan to follow.

One thing I did know is that I didn't want to follow the usual paint app schemes used on alien figure, i.e. tons of dry-brushing over dark washes and the "tiger-camo" pattern of stripes. Not because they look bad or anything, but rather because I wanted to see if we could devise something a bit different.

So I took my cue from the nature of the beast: Giger's original idea of a bio-mechanical being and the reality of the "man-in-a-suit". Thus, we started working with rust colors and applied them in different techniques to try and achieve a look of a surface that is rusting due to excess of moisture, kinda like when water leaves rust marks on a surface as it flows over it. The other aspect was to achieve light patches in certain areas with light tan colors to mimic the way the paint peeled and dissolved off the suit during filming.

On top of that (in different painting sessions), we did some dry-brushing with medium grays and applied semi-gloss coats.

As I said, it's still a WIP. The teeth have been repainted with Metal-cote, but there's still some buffing to do and then the off-white/bone gums have to be retouched. I believe a little bit of dark/black washes and some more gloss are in order as well. Maybe.

Anyway, fire away with comments and critique, it's all welcome! :D

I'm going googly eyes over the paint app!
I thought it was a 1:1 replica at 1st....then saw the headsculpt!

That looks very cool.

Have you tried photo with moody lighting with this yet?

FREAKING AMAZING!

That looks so much better.
Killer work dude.

I want mine repainted now!

Glad you guys dig it!

I'll try my hand at some moody/ambient lighting next and see how they turn out. I did post some pics with a bit of "post-production" on the Alien Love thread, nothing too fancy though, just playing with levels and saturation.

It's an aircraft carrier landing strip base for 1/48 models customized with little bits and pieces of everything (mostly WWII tanks). I built and painted it with Fabio.
It usually serves as the NECA alien's base, but sometimes I use it as backdrop for alien pics.

I'll check if there are any other pics where you can see it better.

EDIT: Here's another pic with the unpainted medi-alien, but I don't have any clearer pics of the base. I can take a couple if you want.

Gotta fix that side of the head man. It's so plain....but I LOVE THE REPAINT! Perfect Alien right there.

Yeah, the side of the face will need some more work, but I'm still debating on what the best solution may be.
I think a couple of dark washes to try and bring out as much as possible of the detailing and folds of the skin, and maybe try to keep the tendons of the cheeks as light as possible.
Ah well, we'll see.

It looks so much better already abake.

The only thing it lacks for me is the contrast that a dark wash brings, and you've already said you're going to try that. I can't wait to see it finished.
