I don't think they're up for order anywhere, even in Japan. I will probably buy both of them, and definitely the C-3PO. But that's because I'm a big fan of the droids, and even I will wait for the inevitable price reductions rather than preordering.

I don't mean to be a pessimist but I'm not sure why everyone has so much faith in Sideshow's ability to do clearly superior versions of the droids. I can't think of anything that they've made in the past that really indicates that they'd be up to doing something like C-3PO. Aside from the issue of his metallic finish, he's also got a lot of fine detail and tiny greeblies that will be very challenging to pull off. Even Vader is pretty simple by comparison. That's not to say that they can't do it (especially if Hot Toys lends some support) but I think it's a bit of an uphill climb.

I'm surprised we haven't seen anything about these other than the assy pics at the beginning of the thread. :(

You missed these pictures?

Doesn't Sideshow make the guns with CAD software? I imagine they would do that with R2 and Threepio, instead of traditional sculpting. And we've all seen that their guns are works of art. But still, mass producing something like these two is very different than just creating a prototype, so who knows.

They might very well use CAD, but so what? Engineering something that has to be articulated is very different from making a gun. And in the end I'm much more worried about the implementation than the design. We know where the weak link in the chain is -- the factory.

I guess I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the Emperor's mechano-chair, which was in my opinion a complete disaster in every way. The legs on mine bent out of shape under its own weight in a matter of days, the paint cause the parts to stick together, and when I tried to take off the emperor after it had been there for a little while, he ripped the entire lighting assembly out, leaving bare wires and circuitry exposed.

I dunno. I've had Medicom figures break into pieces by just standing on a shelf. I never had anything bad happen to my mechano-chair. But basing my opinion off of something more likely than unrelated, if what they've done with Vader and the Troopers is any clue, I have enough faith that they'll do the droids right.

That is a good point... the Mechano-chair was a massive fail. Mine started out okay, but wilted after a small amount of time and the switch for the light broke loose and stopped working. Overall a very disappointing figure.

I do feel that Sideshow is capable of turning out a good product on these... at the very least the scale (and price) will likely be better than Medicom. For now though I'm more than happy with the Hasbro figs.

I am as well. I'd rather have droids who are slightly out of scale than pay $180 a piece for ones that are too far out of scale to work.

Yep, hard to beat 2 droids for $30 :lol

And the R2 is pretty great looking. C-3PO is nice, but the head looks off and he's a bit tall.

From the small pic of the 3PO PF we have seen, it looks to be the most accurate looking C-3p0 anything in a long while..second favorite related 3p0 product would be the one made by kotobukiya..So, i have faith in SS getting the droids done right since the PF looks spot on.

Sideshow knows what's at stake with the droids. They'll get it right. If they wanted to half-@$$ it, they'd have pushed them through production already. Clearly they know their limits, and are waiting until they can do them properly before making the attempt.

Wish I had your optimism...

I still think the old Kenner 12" is the best C3PO.

I still think nothing beats Kotobukiya's C3PO, if only he was articulated!

I agree, it is a great figure/statue. A bit too small, but very nice looking. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the Kotobukiya R2-D2, which is cool but has some flaws alas

Glad some others are in agreement. Awesome as it may appear, the chair is atrocious. Too weak to support the figure.

R2D2 with working lights, this almost makes it worth buying already. I hope they include working lights for C3PO as well.
