Oh, duh! Forgot to mention - put me in for whatever commission scheme is necessary to get these two heads made!

Hi, just joined up here!

I voted for Merry since there was a passable solution for Pippin I was considering trying out first.

Incidentally, Merry was one of the first custom figures I attempted to do back in 2002 with the Toybiz 12" line. Unfortunately, I could never find a head I thought was close enough to match, so it may have ended up being my first aborted custom too. I got all the way through making the major clothing pieces too, though the jacket was never a correct fit. I'll try to dig them out this weekend and take pictures to see what you guys think. The material, at least, which I still have, is a good enough match for me and took quite a bit of searching to find. I will have to completely redo them for the Sideshow bodies though (much different proportions than Toybiz). Besides, with that being 6 years ago, I'm sure I can do better this time around.

Please do take pics! I would love to see what you did! Welcome aboard!

Could it be? Is the interest in building custom 1/6 Gimlis, Merrys and Pippins breathing life back into this line?

Doubt it. :monkey2

I actually think it may be possible that the Gimli prompted a run on SS hobbits, yeah. Ebay has been almost scoured of good deals on the DiD and TB Gimli. While I doubt this will inspire SS to make the Hobbit its nice to know that LOTR won't suffer Buffy's fate of a million free figure giveaways every spooktacular.

How did you manage that?

i just happened to look on ebay last night and saw one with about 2 hours left, no bids, starting at $9.99. the guy had an over 99% positive rating so i decided to put down $10 and then today I saw that I had won. So i guess he didn't list a minimum sale price and shpping and insurance equal the other $18.

it looks like i missed the gimli window though. that's the real reason i even went to ebay last night.

:lecture :lecture :lecture

We were discussing this last night and I fully agree. Although I doubt it'll light any fires in the Sideshow camp, which, unfortunately for us, is a smart business move for them. The Hobbits that didn't sell are now moving out for custom purposes and they don't have to invest in developing new ones for what they might very well consider a failed market. Sad. :(

Good deal, but I think it probably is an indicator of how little popularity the hobbits have if nobody even wanted to bid on it. :(

It could also be a side effect of the live.com deal, since people are so focused on BIN auctions now. Plus he didn't put "Sideshow" in the title.

yup i happened to stumble upon it when searching for gimli and when i went back to bid on it i typed in sideshow frodo and it didn't even show up so it did slip under the radar

Or it could be the seller just didn't know what he was doing and misspelled or mislabeled the item. I've scored some good deals on ebay simply because I just happened to come across an item that was not advertised properly. I once typed in "Fellbeast" instead of "Fell Beast" by mistake in the ebay search and I ended up scoring a pretty good deal as a result. :D

Merry coat and vest I made in late 2003 (I had the date wrong before when I guessed 2002), it was before Return of the King came out.

Looking at this again, I might be able to salvage the coat without redoing the whole thing. Definitely would redo the vest entirely. And they both need better buttons.

Merry and Pippin Customs Heads

Well, as you all know the LOTR 1:6th line is on hold and just short of making the Fellowship complete. C. Howes has stated in his thread that he'd be interested in doing some LOTR figures as he was originally going to do work for Toy Biz when they had them. I would imagine we have several folks who would want to get these two done and should be easy to find bodies just using the Hobbit bodies from SS.

If you're interested please let me know in this thread so in a few weeks we can let C. Howes know how many folks we have that are interested in doing this.

*-I looked for a thread on this already but didn't see one incase I'm doubling up. :lol

Any chance I could see examples of this person's work beforehand? Having a background doing sculpt work for Toybiz doesn't exactly inspire confidence, as there were an equal number of hacks doing sculpts over there as well as talented artists. No offense intended.

If there's anyone I'd want to do these, it's him (IMO). Just search for posts by C. Howes or check this thread https://sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45131. The Batman sculpts he just completed are on par with the Hot Toys releases.

I am now interested in getting headsculpts for Merry and Pippin. So how much would these two cost and is there anyone here who is willing to paint them, I have no artistic talent and would not be able to paint them worth a lick.

I am going to try and get a Gimli Merry and Pippin so the Fellowship will be complete.
