Some retailers should have their stock of Rising by now. But, they're not authorized to sell them until release day. So... I'm guessing some folks here might have some inside friends working at those stores lol.

I had that at my local Gamestop but they all are fired and replaced with hipster ****** bags :slap

I used to get the first copy of everything :monkey4

super lame, hipsters are so annoying.

In quite a few of Kojima's interviews (and even on Twitter) he has stated that Rising is a spin-off, and I can't recall anyone from KP actually mentioning that it was canon to "Metal Gear Solid". In terms of what's relavant to the storyline of MGS, I'm sure that Kojima would want to handle those matters himself instead doing it through another company (Platinum Games, in this case).

But, my biggest concern right now, is if Kojima decides to make Rising relevant to the main MGS series, by retconing the series' storyline in a future game (which he seems to be doing a lot of lately), in order to account for it.

Unless I hear anything otherwise, I'm going to look at Rising as spin-off, along the same lines of Ghost Babel, and the Ac!d games.

I know at one point they were saying it was not canon but apparently that has since changed. It might not have many ties to the MGS story but that doesn't mean it's not canon.

There are two universes, the canon one and the one where GB and the Acid games are. Not everything in the canon universe has to be called MGS or tie into that main story in some way. At least that's how I see it.

I agree with your sentiment that Kojima would probably want to keep any big advances in the story for himself but, this game doesn't look like it's going to be anything more than just a fun little sidestory set in the same world so I don't think that's an issue.

Of course, there's always the chance that he retcons Rising away in a future game anyway, making this entire discussion pointless. Videogames, yo.

Here's an interview with the Creative Producer from KP saying it is canon with MGS: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7BTtiAQuZ0"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7BTtiAQuZ0[/ame]

Snake and Raiden's story ended in MGS4, period. A milking of the franchise isn't canon.

And the story seems too ****ty to be canon anyway.

The KP director seems to be dodging the question as far as I'm concerned :lol. It's already known that this game takes place after MGS 4, but being in the same universe doesn't necessarily connote canonicity. There are quite a few things in Rising that just don't add up with the ending in MGS 4. Right now, I'm wondering if Jon and Rose were retconed out of the game - hence, the reason for why Raiden has chosen to go back into battle instead of doing normal guy stuff; like driving Rose to the mall and picking up little Jon from soccer practice. Also, it doesn't make sense that he's still suffering from PTSD, and calling himself "Jack the Ripper" when he supposedly came to came to terms those issues between the events of MGS 2 and 4. In my opinion, it seems as if Kojima had tried to interject elements of the previous storyline of "MGS Rising" that KojiPro had originally prepared, with the new concept of "MG Rising" - and now as a result, the entire thing is looking to be a somewhat messy, and schizophrenic storyline.

Rising looks like a fun game. But, aside from that, I just don't want to have to take it seriously, in terms its storyline relating to MGS :monkey1. Like you said, hopefully, it just remains a nice little side-story and nothing more.

By the way, I'm wondering if the plasma in the sword lamp (that's included in the LE) will seep out and dissipate over time.

Any reason to suspect it would? I'm not familiar with such lamps.

lets hope not ! hope it last forever. I cant wait to do the review.

I heard from somewhere (can't remember where) that the gas escapes over time in plasma globes. It seems to make sense especially since it happens in plasma TVs. Not sure what the life expectancy for a plasma globe is though.

Mine should be here in 10 hours. I'm playing this right away. Been digging the Vocal Track CD too.

Can't wait to tell you guys the secret I've been holding off all this time.

Being a Foreign Country, Stores get their copies early so they sell them on release date.. but they sell the copies as soon as they get it

Where i am, The Copies of MGR have sold out already & restocking in few days.. glad i got mine :)

Looking forward to what US-based board members have to say about their hands-on experience with the game...while I wait impatiently for UK's Friday release...

Uh Oh Ryan's got a secret

Sent from the Shell by codec.

Nothing spectacular Jason, haha, but pretty neat nonetheless.

Did you beta test the game?

Good question, Solidus. No, I didn't. I'm just receiving something from the creators of the game that will be delivered out after the Hollywood launch. (should arrive here in the upcoming weeks I suppose). I've been holding out on telling you guys because I wanted to have the proof in hand at least.

It's morning here and the post office called that my U.S region of Rising has arrived, gonna pick it up when I finish breakfast and playing it a.s.a.p. Whohoo.
