It's funny but the only PAK figures to really resemble their in-game models are the Final Fantasy figures, the rest seem to be a style all of their own. With that said though, I definitely see Yoji Shinkawa's artwork influencing the sculpts of the Metal Gear figures.

Take the PAK MGS2 Raiden with the hair going up (like David Bowie's lol), it looks much more like the artwork than the in-game model with the flat hair.

The pak mgs figures are definitely a derivative of the art work with some stylizations. Not sure why people get mad at the designs. That's what they look like to me. Except when they put extra **** on them like the new liquid snake. Who wants a rolled up sleeve and a huge pouch?

Kojima and Shinkawa both give input on these figures. Kojima has posted photos where we could see Shinkawa making changes to the designs.

When Kojima posted the new Raiden image on Twitter he also said that there is still work to do on it.

Yup that's true, also I remember this whole mess with Grey Fox's color scheme, and Shinkawa approved it all, leaving us the message that probably that's how his design was intended to be in the first place (I believe psx graphics would not be able to resemble the metal effect, along with the color filter the game had), is just a matter to look at GF's model from Smash Bros., he' was metallic in there too.

I actually believe that the most faithful to their in-game models are BB & Kaz from the PW line. With all this MGSV Im glad I bought him (Kaz)

Oh I also wanted to point out something about the discussion about the MGS2 gashapon figures, umh... you see I have 2 sets of them, one official and one bootleg.
And I MUST say: Do not look down the bootlegs.
Actually, paint app in the bootlegs is surprisingly superior than the original ones, most notably in face paint, here is the most practical example, Vamp:
- here is the original figure:

-here is the bootleg figure

Set 1 is the most flawled of course, but set 2 is excelent. Pliskin is ugly in both versions tho. My point is if you get to see a reasonable price for the sets and you are kind of insecure if they are original or not, dont be afraid, bootlegs on set 2 are as you can see, better. Oh and also they feel like they use a better plastic, bootlegs are bit harder than originals.

are you sure you didnt mix them up? because i know for a fact mine are real and my vamp looks like the lower photo. the top one his waist doesnt even line up.

Yes, sure I didnt mixed em up. The torso stuff is because I didnt assembly tighter when I took the picture, but yeah I the lower one is from my bootleg set

thank you. thats an excellent compliment. btw thats just the solid snake collection. im waiting for more detolfs for my big boss stuff and my other mgs memorabilia. if you want to see the best collection you have to look up the diesnake museum on youtube. here it is:

:eek holy crap! I thought i was a huge fan, but these guys dedicate their life's to it.

Simple pose, but I like it :)
now if only I could trust him to stand up by himself without falling over sometime during the night.

Ended up just saying screw it and using a stand. I didnt like the big clunky clear stand that came with it thought so I left it in the package and just used one from my pak sephiroth. Looks pretty good imo for being on a stand. His little cord things on the side of his abs are annoying though, the one on Raiden's left side never stays in and always pops out. Too fragile too keep messing with it as I can see it is going to pop off one of these days so for now it can just stay out I guess.

Hey guys, just wanted to let the ones of you interested know, there are more WIP pics up of Amnur's MGS2 Snake sculpt in the interest thread. Check it out, even at this early stage, he nailed it.

I hate metalgearjd, those guys are extremist purist, got banned because I wanted to know some legal text of covers and posters to make custom covers for my games, and they were all like "OMG YOU ARE DEGRADING OUR COMMUNITY and BS".
Oh and they sell stuff incredibly overpriced, they pay the hardcorefan value, is not like this community, I really had a bad time over there. ARGH.

EDIT: Glad to be here hehe

Hey Jack, I was wondering, was there a reasoning behind the use of Shinkawa's art as the basis of the sculpt? Doesn't that make it a tougher project? Y'know how much people like Plissken and I dream for one that follows the 3d render. :)

Goddamn right, to me and you that would be the grail of all our MGS collectibles! :clap

Snake in MGS2 is the ultimate badass, there is no denying it :rock

Hell yeah, that's why I'm willing to supply the 3D shots from any angle. Judging by Amnur's work, he's more than capable to do the actual 3D render. I'd dream the day we finally get the mullet right too!

I've been a member of Metal Gear JD for quite some time (and before that, diesnake.com). They're a very small community - definitely not as big as this forum. Everyone there is pretty cool, except for a few OCD collectors who must absolutely have everything. I could never really understand that. A few of them, just seem to be piling up more and more items, and when they show pictures of their stuff, everything's just crammed into whatever available space there is - hiding things behind other things, items being placed on top of each other, etc :slap.

I can certainly appreciate large collections. But, there's a big difference between collecting something because you have a passion for it, and hording - especially competitive hording.

Sorry you got banned, by the way. That sucks.

Don't talk about me like that :D

I wasn't, man :lol. Some of the hard-core collectors on Metal Gear JD are scary. They fill up their collections with the most obscure things just for bragging rights. They're practically hording, and competing with other horders. It's like a competition to see who runs out of apartment space the fastest, and have to sleep on the sidewalk.

ahhahaha that's the key word, "competitors", is like they do not help anyone on helping them getting better stuff for their collections, not like here where in WTB boards people even takes the time to post deals they saw in certain sites, that's such an amazing and friendly things that makes me happy to be part of this community.
My thing was actually with a fellow chilean member, he was the one who acused me to the moderators of trying to retrieve "sensitive collecting value information" and got banned. For us who live in Chile getting collectibles stuff is REALLY hard and expensive, it really hurt being from the same country, instead of being helpful he just acted like a little b***h about it. And he even lives in the same city as me, dayum that forum...or maybe that's just how it works the overal people of my country :/
But anyway, now that the topic of custom covers was brought to the table, here's my little WIP for MGR, was a very difficult work but it's turning out real nice at least for me.
It's a mix of the JP backcover with the US template and the EU limited edition art. The ide is to be used with a "blue" blu-ray ps3 size case to give that "electric" feeling of the game
