I'm kind of wondering about something. Are Kojima and Shinkawa redesigning MGS from scratch? It's really interesting that Shinkawa has directed the creation of all the Play Arts (and Hot Toys) MGS figures, but none of the figures even resemble the characters from the games.

It's always a shocking experience to look at my ancient McFarlane figures and see that they're more accurate, in terms of proportions to the updated (and presumably better quality) releases from Play Arts Kai.

Kojima/Shinkawa do distance themselves from old 3D renders of the old games as much as possible. Just look at how many revisions they've made over the years (3DS, CG MGS HD art).

It's just unfortunate that such an approach applies to the figures too, there are only 3 figures that are actually fairly accurate: Medicom Snake, MGS4 Old Snake and Peace Walker Big Boss. Too bad you need to repaint the Medicoms to get results.

When reviews were out of the Play Arts Solid Snake, people were saying they "did they best they could" since the PS1 never had any facial detail. I guess everybody forgotten about the Twin Snakes, which was actually a de-aged MGS2 Snake.

That's a very good point, my friend. It's actually things like that, that make me loose my passion for collecting sometimes. With so many revisions on character designs, who's to say that the Play Arts figures in the present won't be replaced by more updated figure designs in the future?

I love the Medi figures, as old and simplistic as they are. The RAH figures might not have the most accurate skin textures or tones of color that you'd find in a Hot Toys release, but the Snake figures actually look like something from Shinkawa's art work - and their mustaches and beards are connected as well, unlike the Hot Toys Sneaking Suit figure :monkey1.

I have to say, that proportion-wise, the McFarlane MGS 1 Solid Snake figure looks more accurate to Snake in "The Twin Snakes" than the PAK figure with its "hyper muscle body". Both of the head-sculpts on the McFarlane and PAK figures are pretty horrible, though.

personaly i prefer action figures (pak) over dolls(hottoys and Medi) anyday and the pak figures dont appear to look that bad as some of you are saying, the only down side is pak really needs to work on keeping them in scale I.E sneaking suit bb and raiden stand out from the rest due to size.

The proportions are the worst. The PAK figures would look infinitely better if they were right.

Co-incidentally i saw the pictures of amnurs PAK MGS Snake on his blog and for some reason the thighs look so much smaller than my own and many i've seen. I wonder if it's just the tricks of the camera

None of the sculpts are true to the character design apart from them mentioned by Solidus

eye colour is a small thing tho, if they got the face sculpt right id be happy. speaking of...

Am I the only one who loves the figure? I mean it is a great figure, he's got the anime look like he should be on his own cartoon show........ or I do see a little 3a in it? the photos that we got before were horrible, these ones make me a little more excited. his ears are way too big though - i agree with plis. i think thats what is ruining it for me. it makes him look like curious george.

Egad, that face is ugly! Great poseability and choice of hands though. I only go to one person for MGS figures these days, and that's Amnur. Nothing mass produced has successfully captured MGS for me, aside from Hot Toys Naked Snake. That was pretty good.

im probably gonna mimic the prone, looking down the sights pose or the inside the box one. there are so many possibilities to position him. thats where the coolness is.
