You have to sweep your missions which you didn't finish with an S-rank.

When you finish certain missions with S ranking, you unlock rare weapons & gadgets to aid you with the tougher missions

I really hate that with games,at least with games like these.Because if i replay missions i can end up restarting a missions too many times because i can't get the perfect score.
And if i screw up towards the end of the mission that i for example have spent 10 minutes with allready,it gets really frustrating. And before i know it,it could take me an hour each mission to get it perfect. Many of them can be an easy S rank but i mean the harder ones.

Yes I agree with you, Espen.. That is why I research the 'net for Guides (not cheats or tips).

I just have to know which missions are worth getting an S-rank for, and those are the missions I play over & over again until I get it. You'll find that the missions which will reward you after getting an S-rank are the ones where you have to be very stealthy & not kill anyone - as if you're a ghost passing by - classic Snake. Love the thrill of that! :rock

Yeah i know what it takes to get a S rank, ive gotten a few allready on the more simple missions where i didn't feel like recruiting anyone because on a mission like those you know you'll get worthless soldiers.

On the more difficult missions i don't mind spending time sneaking through them as long as i manage to complete them on the first try.You start to get impatient and sloppy after multiple attempts.

Yeah, I guess that repetitive attempts get me sloppy too..

Aim to get the M37 Tank Buster weapon. That's the most powerful weapon (in my opinion) when you are dealing with the AI robots.

Are you playing on the PSP or PS3? When I played this on the PSP, I always brought my PSP wherever I go, scanned the area for recruitment, and got myself some A or S-rank soldiers. :yess:

I play it on PS3 that i waited a long time for, only reason i didn't continue with it on PSP.

You could actually scan for soldiers online wherever you went?Or are you talking about the MSF entrance exam?

Yes that's the one. I am still playing MGS2 on PS3, haven't played Peace Walker again, because I only finished it (300+ hours of gameplay) on the PSP about a year ago. Wanting to forget stuff, so that I can increase the replay value of Peace Walker.

By the way, I looked for your PSN ID, but it's not listed there in the Video Game PSN ID thread. What's your ID, may I add you? :)

Mine is JazzyJeffD.

The MSF entrance exam isn't a online feature as far as i know if that's the one you were talking about.
The online recruiting feature is a different one.

Ok, thanks for the update. It's a totally-different game then, as the MSF Entrance Exam was like hitting the jackpot if you find S-rank soldiers. I wonder what the difference in interface is with the PS3 version.

I can't say for sure because i never got that far on PSP.I only played about 2 hours and later that week the HD announcement so i didn't bother.

The MSF exam is just an in game mother base feature if it's the same on PSP.You search for volunteers and if there is any you fight them outside your old Base and when you're done they join you.It seems like you get one new volunteer available through MSF exam after each mission you do.The Combat unit you send on missions can find volunteers for you as well on their missions.

In the Mother base menu along with the other online features, you have an own feature called Recruit which is the online recruiting where you find a host or something, never tried it but i watched the tutorial how it works.

So it's different on PSP?

It's the same in the PSP. You fight off recruits (more than one), and once you beat them (which is bound to happen), you get all those soldiers. PSP scans the area for WiFi signals or something.

Your description on how the PS3 does it is quite different, so I have to try myself. Hehe.

Regarding the soldiers with High-rank on R&D, Medical & Mechanical... You can get S-rank mechanical soldiers, those are the snipers on the cliffs.
You have to get the parachute-shooting gun, to be able to capture them, and to get that gun, you have to S-rank one of the missions. I forgot which one.

Will try to remembr or just look it up.

Yes i remember those 2 snipers in one mission. The ones on the cliff and you have the camouflaged snipers in the ruins that you can capture in one mission but i don't think those camouflaged snipers was anything special as far as i remember.

Thanks for the info :)

I don't think ive even gotten to Extra Ops 098 yet,but i could be wrong.
I don't care about weapons just to have them, but pretty much desperate to get something i really need, like getting past the harder Extra ops AI bosses and tips where to find the best Soldiers.

No worries..

But getting the Carl Gustav M2 Fulton launcher will let you shoot those hard-to-reach soldiers (like the ones in the cliff, and the one in the Watchtower). Those soldiers are S-rank for either R&D or Mechanical. :wave

My main goal is to get the weapon that inflicts most damage to the AI bosses. That's all i care about at the moment or increase the amount of supply support if possible.Anything that would help me beat the damn hard AI machines.Yeah i probably have to go through many stages to get what i need in the end.

It's crazy how much more difficult the AI bosses are now,i didn't die even once when i faced them in the Main missions. They weren't hard at all,it just took a while to beat them.

Is 10 Supply supports maximum like i have now?It doesn't seem like you can upgrade anything that allows you to carry more recovery items than you could from the very start.

I know ill probably be chatting with myself here, but i thought id share anyway :)

Ive gotten to the Point where only Peace Walker Extra ops 118 is left, and there are plenty more extra ops to be unlocked. And im really stuck on EO 118 now as Peace Walker II is damn impossible to beat with the current weapons i have.
I search the net and people keep telling about the M47,and to get that you need to S Rank a EO that i havent unlocked yet,and the key to that mission is using the Fulton Launcher that you unlock completing EO 98 that i haven't unlocked yet either. So im pretty much stuck with an Impossible AI Boss i need to complete to move on,but i don't have the right weapons to beat it.

I have spent time recruiting the best R&D i have available through the EO that is unlocked, but the best i get is Rank B soldiers which ain't enough to boost up my R&D Level in hope of getting the second Best Rocket Launcher XFIM.
At least ive been able to get Rank 5 recovery items, but how much does that help if i have crap weapons?
I looked into getting The Battle dress Helmet, but in order to get that,i need to S Rank some missions i haven't unlocked,so it is getting pretty frustrating right now.

I like the bonus items you get for getting a Top Score but damn it is frustrating when you really need them.

Hi bro Espen.. Not to worry, because I got stuck in the same situation as you at one point.

Are your missile launchers all in the highest usage level?

In the Peace Walker II battle:
- Are you bringing Grenades, C4, and AT Mines with you?
- Are you using the Battle Armor, to be able to bring the most number of weapons (aside from a launcher, a machine gun)?

My Carl Gustav is at Level 4 and im 7 R&D levels from getting the XFIM but right there im struggling as well.Because The current missions i have available right now have only 2 or 3 B-Ranked R&D soldiers so going up 7 levels is not gonna happen until i start getting some ranked A and S Soldiers.
Always bringing what's necessary like Grenades, chaff g. At Mines and anything that can help me.I had a trick when i struggled with the other AI bosses which was quite simple really.Using your Machine guns with Armour Piercing rounds more and I wouldn't have to run empty on my Supply supports.

Yeah i always choose Battle Armour because of the extra weapon slot but i would love to have the Helmet, but can't because of what i explained in my previous Post. You can unlock it through Outer Ops mode in those last 3 or 4 missions that i have left but i don't control those battles so.I had the best choppers and Tanks in the 3 hardest Outer ops missions and every time they all get destroyed, that's 8 Boss battles right there becoming a wasted time so i won't bother with those anymore.

If I remember correctly, what I did was maximize the R&D roster.. I spent probably 1 hour just fultoning/recruiting B-ranked soldiers, and ensuring all that the R&D roster had were ALL B-ranked ones (sacking the non-B-ranked R&D soldiers, or moving them to other teams), or the highest-possible rank.

Yeah i spent just about the same today plus plus on a mission where you fulton 11 scouts and 3 of them are Ranked B.They didn't exactly boost the level up that much.3 of them made the R&D team go up one level :lol
