For me the Metal Gear games are the only reason l would want a PS3.

l remember that Metal Gear Solid 2 Subsistance for PS2, l played those training style missions or what ever they were called for hours and hours, they were pretty damn hard. I did all that for no achievement awards.:lol

l still haven't played Metal Gear 4 yet. Metal Gear is my favorite game franchise, nothing else comes close in my opinion.

QFT

Im impressed that being a fan you haven't played MGS4 yet... as a warning i loved it as much as i didn't, im still 50/50 but its still a great game

i hope the announce more stuff for this steal book since it is way too expensive for what there offering. still gonna get it if it has some sick artwork but

Yet I feel MGS4 had a lot of weak moments in the game. Mainly when they try to explain the various reasoning for the crazy non sense happening such as Vamp, Liquid Ocelot, and some other stuff. Not to mention Johny was just lame. I love MGS also, but I feel if MGS4 didn't have the awesome graphics and good gameplay, I would rate it probably in the bottom tier in MGS ranking.

For those of you that haven't had a chance to play Peacewalker, you guys are in for a treat. MGS 3 and PW are my favorite MGS now, surpassing MGS 1.

I could handle sci-fi mumbo jumbo but MGS4 (& kojima) kinda lost the plot towards the end as I felt Hideo must have gone a bit "stir crazy", whilst most MGS games go a bit mental (in an awesome kind of way) in the last act this one just got silly, lots of juvenile humour, giant catapult/slingshots, mei ling's ass.

I just felt MGS 4 saw the series lose a small amount of the integrity it had built up, purely because hideo had stayed at the helm of the project for too long, I felt he'd gone a bit "George
Lucas".

exactly, its a shame aswell. what i liked the least is what he did to Snakes character, he just seems lost and has no will anymore. far from the boss he was in MGS2.

hopefully in a future title( prequel to MGS4?) he can redeem himself. I never liked BigBoss as much myself, Solids alot cooler.

I'm not a real fan of what they did to snakes character either. I like it and don't like it equally, lol.

mgs4 wasnt that amazing, but the ending with the reunion that happened half way through the cut scenes was amazing and made the game overall amazing to me.

MGS 4 is the best game i have ever played.
probably the best game ever made.

I think Kojima relied far to heavily on lengthy cut scenes in MGS4 to try & tie up story threads, it's too weighted towards being a movie with sections you can play rather than being a game that has a few short cut scenes in it.

I may be looking back through Rose tinted specs but I feel snake eater was Hideo's crowning glory, MGS4 was technically superior & allowed for a better visual experience but overall it was the lesser game.

"Great" is a very subjective word, based on other games you've played maybe MGS4 is the best but globally I doubt it even scrapes into the top 10 or even 20 greatest game ever made, even if it was in a list of "action games" I doubt it'd be near the top. Kojima's ego got in the way & as a result i'd imagine that many games have surpassed MGS4 as truly great titles.

.

Metal gear is the best game franchise. l hope Kojima makes another one, l heard he wasn't making anymore, but l hope we see another one.

My opinion for people who played MGS4:

Making Snake old as s#!+ was unecessary, and having him shrug off Meryl (and OMG, her marrying her "stalker" nearly ruined everything) made me dislike the game more than I would've liked to. The Meyl/Snake relationship is what drove me to want to play MGS4 the most, yet it turned out to be one of the most dissapointing results in the game. Seriously though, why would she get with a guy who she beats the hell out of daily after him randomly saying he loves her? HORRIBLE writing there. More horrible than my run-on sentences.
I would've rather her stay as a single bad@$$ female soldier with man shoulders, than wind up with Mr. S#!++y booty himself.

Wait until the game actually comes out, I won't be surprised if it hits the $1,000 mark in a year. This thing actually is rare.

Certainly had one of the best sequences ever in a game when you take control of REX for a brief period - love lumbering around in that baddest of mechs! Wish there was a virtual mission or something where you can control REX and get more creative with it.

On a side note regarding MGS 4, with all the recent resurgence of MGS excitement with the announcements of the HD trilogy, 'Rising' on the horizon the LONG awaited release of the 3A REX model, I sat down and played through Guns of the Patriots again (trying for the no alarm, no kill :p). I must say it is a remarkable achievement despite it's flaws. Sure the gameplay is a bit stale next to revolutionary stealth titles like SC: Conviction and the almost intrusive abundance of cutscenes flirts with pushing this game into interactive movie territory, but the visuals still stun after three years and the world of Solid Snake is as strange and wonderful as ever. I agree with a previous poster who remarked that, even despite critical acclaim, MGS 4, sadly, probably would not be regarded as a top action title in years to come but it remains a title that any discerning gamer should experience.

Probably right. The only steelbook I don't regret shelling out a few extra bucks for was the release of Akira on DVD - just a beautiful shell, not to mention a great film. I also spent upwards of $70 on a steel slipcase for Terminator 2 when the special edition was released - an estraordinary DVD in terms of the sheer amount of material included but the slipcase - meh. I can understand the need to capitalize on fanboys, and if I had the chance, I'd pick up the steelbook, but these games stand on their own without all the bells and whistles. Congrats to all who got one though.

Lucky for you they just had a nice price drop!!! Have you not played MGS4 yet??? You better take some time off, and put it in your calendar that you aren't allowed to leave the house until you play EVERY MGS game on the PS3.
