When I think about it, this has always been Mez' way. Everyone remember the Scarface fad 10 years ago? People were clamoring for action figures, and Mezco ends up getting the license. People were really excited for some McFarlane type of realistic figures and Mez finally reveals what they're going to release....

I worked for a collectibles e-tailer at the time, and being that Mez was a relatively new company, we had direct contact with them (I think our boss paid a lot of money for some crappy exclusive, so it gave us a relationship). Anyway, of course everyone was really disappointed and my boss, a huge Scarface fan, asked about it, his wife told us this is exactly what Mez wanted. His explanation at the time was 'this is the personification of what Tony Montana is like on the inside'. Uhhh ok. But I'll tell you, I remember how stubborn he was about the whole thing. When he finally released more realistic figures (which werent good imo), no one cared anymore.

Also, hearing how they cant do cargo pants, I quickly went ans checked my 3A figs, cargo pants, with 2 punches on each leg :lol

WTF? Have they never seen a 3A figure?

Knightmare Batman's coat and pants suck. The knee pads are freaking print-ons. :lol

5: We gotta strike while the iron is hot on these movie releases. Fans of the more classic stuff can and will wait (News Flash: You have both the Marvel and DC movie licensing! The iron will always be hot for the foreseeable near future! 2-4 movies a year between the two of em!

I saw the interview, and I understand their logic in regards to focusing on the current films.

Reeve Sups, Adam West show, 89 Bats, TDK, have all stood the test of time. They will always be popular and new merchandise will sell. And if they say they can wait several years, then clearly it means they know they won't lose the license.

Suicide Squad and BVS? Not so much. Those are just flavor of the month costumes and characters...until JL or the next DCEU film...if they even make more films. So yeah, there's a time limit for those specific versions of those characters since their popularity hasn't been proven yet.

I get what you're saying, but I think I agree with Lee in the sense that there will ALWAYS be a new flavour of the week. By Mezco's logic we will never get those classics we want because there will always be some new superhero film that needs their attention. What they need to be doing is striking while the iron is hot, yes, but also at least sprinkling in some figures based on older interpretations of the characters a couple times a year. Otherwise figures like the 89 Batman will just keep getting pushed back over and over and over.

The interview really highlights how disconnected they are from the fan base:
1: No Robin because he's unrealistic (cause we're like Nolan...their toys based on comics, it's all unrealistic! 0_O)
2: Accessory packs would cheapen the brand (No...your crappy interpretations do that for you)
3: Wolverine cargo shorts really bring out the outdoorsman in any mutant
4: We had no ideal how popular Knightmare Bats would be :huh

Just rewatching it is kinda disappointing to see how out of touch they seem.

Pierre looks like a great guy and someone Id hang out with, but boy does this hit the nail on the mfing head.

I actually don't think we'll ever see those things he mentioned like '89 Batman that they've been working on. Why?

1. obsession with their own interpretations
2. movie licenses from not only DC/WB but Marvel/Disney as well (from Justice League to Thor Ragnarok)
3. this defeatist attitude they have of "oh, well other companies are taking care of that version, we can wait"

When are they ever going to have time to release things like a Keaton Batman or TDKR Superman when there are 2-3 superhero blockbusters every year? They'll no doubt make a JL Affleck or JL Cavill (taking up that year's spot for those two characters). They'll have all those Marvel movies, Infinity War, etc. It'll never end.

The Robin thing is disappointing too. I don't get it. You could easily make Robin cool. If you don't want him to be a little kid without pants, do what Bruce Timm and Co. did in 1992 for Batman the Animated series and make him a college/university student with a cool costume that has pants.

These walls they're putting up will only make for a boring toy line.

After seeing that batman I was so disappointed. I thought it would be classic look, but no and seeing all these post about what was said. It makes it worse and now I don't really have faith in them. I will still get, Deathstroke, Deadpool, Spider-Man and red son superman. But other then those it's said and done.

Maybe we'll have a better chance of seeing those classics if after JL and WW, The WB decides to put their DCU on hold, or scrap entirely. But maybe there would be another excuse even still :(

That attitude about Robin....brings back the biggest problem I had with Nolan even at the height of my fanaticism. Robin is as integral to the Batman mythos as Alfred or anything else.

So you wanted a child Robin in the Nolan films? Or even creepier, an adult Robin living with a 35 year old Bruce Wayne? :lol

I wouldn't mind a child Robin in the DCEU. That world is messed up enough for a Hit Girl type Robin.

Handle it like the Animated series did. Doesn't necessarily mean a 12 year old kid in shorts running around, butt I don't see the problem with taking on the concept. But It'd also mean changing the format of the trilogy and stretching it out another movie, I suppose.

Agreed. As much as I love Batman, it will always be Batman and Robin. You cannot separate the two for too long in my mind. An iconic Bronze Age Batman and Robin would be perfect for this line. It absolutely beggars belief that Mezco cannot see that. I honestly think there is more to it, licensing or something. Something tells me that even D.C. Direct had a problem releasing Robin figures due to copyright at one time?

It pains me that the only Robin we are likely to see is the buzz cut weird adult one from arkham universe.

The one thing missing for me in the Nolan films was Robin....apart from a decent Batsuit, decent Batmobile and the Penguin.

Could have been just a young associate Bruce saved and trained, not necesarily living with him. Kind of a nightwing but dressed as robin, or straight up nightwing.

Not that Nolan needed a robin.

The way things played out in each film, I don't think there was enough room to include that subplot. They kind of did it in TDKR with Blake, but not really. If Nolan were to make a fourth film and expand on that idea of Bruce returning to Gotham, training Blake, and becoming a team for at least one film, it could work...maybe.

If it were up to me, in my ideal Batman films, "super villains" wouldn't be limited to a film as the main antagonist as it's usually the case and the trend in the Batman films. I would create a world where the super villains coexist and are all out there, which is what Nolan did with the Scarecrow, and what Suicide Squad attempted to do on a much larger scale than the previous films.

I wouldn't even use Penguin as a main villain, but as a side character who owns a club and other illegal businesses, but works with or for Batman in multiple films, Killer Croc would be living in the sewers and so on and so forth. Kind of like the Gotham show or the cartoons.

Speaking of the animated series, it would be really interesting if Mezco took those classic designs and translated them to a more "live action" looking figure.

Like keep the key aspects and proportions for the characters, but make them look more natural and life like. I have it pictured in my head but it's hard to explain. If done right it could be really cool.

Also, because of the community I've been convinced that I need a Mezco figure in my collection so I went ahead and ordered the BVS Batman. I hope it's as good in hand as its been made out to be.

Would have loved a TDKR Batman as well but I'm not paying those crazy ebay prices for a 6" figure.

No I know, thats what Im saying, there was no need to have robin in the trilogy, but you see how it can easily work in Nolans universe.

What Im saying is that Mezcos reason to ignore Robin is just dumb.
