New Details on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Character Designs Surface

Even though we saw quite a few set photos for the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, we still don't know exactly what the characters will look like since the actors were all wearing motion capture suits. Idle Hands (special thanks to Ruxxon for the link) has now run a report from an unnamed source that saw the first incarnation of action figures for the upcoming film which revealed a slew of details about the character's designs.

Keep in mind that these designs are for the action figures and may not reflect the characters' final appearance in the film, but they'll likely be close.

To start, the source says the four turtles have their respective weapons and are quite "traditional" in their turtle design, though he says they appear to have "less texture" than the turtles from the films in the early '90s. He also notes that the figures retain the "hunched over" posture that can be seen in the set photos and that each turtle seemingly has a different physique. Raphael reportedly is the most muscular of the bunch followed by Leonardo. Donatello is said to boast a "slimmer, leaner" look while Michaelangelo is said to be the shortest of the bunch. And don't worry, Idle Hands' source says each of the turtles has their respective colored masks.

In their description of Master Splinter, the site's source says he bears a "very traditional design" with a Fu Manchu style moustache and his hair pulled up in a bun of sorts. They also note that he wears a "slightly tattered samurai outfit with a blue upper half with gold accents, tan lower belted robes and blocky sandals."

The site's description of Shredder is where things start to get interesting. Their source notes that the character has "pointy edges coming off of absolutely anything" on his suit and that he is "covered head to toe in metal armor or blades." They do add that his helmet is "pseudo-traditional, adopting elements of the classic look" though they say they believe "He'll be the stuff of ridicule for some time."

It might be a few more months before we get to see the characters in an official capacity, but with Toy Fair 2014 set to begin in February, it may come sooner than later. So what do you think of these design descriptions for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' characters? Sound off below!

Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, the film stars Megan Fox in the role of April O'Neil, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter and William Fichtner as Shredder. Going by that article, I actually don't mind the idea of the four turtles each having a bit uniqueness to their respective physiques.

The thing I thought was a little meh though (& as mentioned, it could just be for the toys) is the coloured masks. I thought they only did that in the original film to link it to the cartoon at the time..

Shredder sounds.. curious.

Same here, I'm looking forward to seeing their unique designs. Fingers crossed it's a part of the film that they get right.

They are, those pics are months old. They are wearing those Neca Immortal masks painted with a fu man chu scheme. Same masks were recently used in Arrested Development(painted white) and something else I can't remember atm.

Easily the best incarnation of the TMNT ever put out imo. Every aspect of it, the characters, their arcs, the fights and fighting styles, the balance of humor and really dark and adult situations... Season 2 has sealed it.

They won't do an all red bandana turtle movie. The ga knows the turtles by color and most people know them from the 80s cartoon. Maybe a homage but certainly not a full movie with red mask.

Meh nothing beats the big eyed look of the 90s movie foot. As for the turtles. I don't know why they need clothes but I'll wait for a pic before I judge I guess.

Well technically all the characters are different. Raph has gladiator type gear,Leo samurai type stuff, Donnie has tech gear and a long bandanna and Miley has pants and a shell necklace.

Ruining my childhood, damn it! I'll probably understand why older Star Wars fans hate the Prequels so much after this comes out!

Im really glad they wont do the red masks look. it sucks. the different colors is much much nicer
