It was her idea to say something. Do you guys think they would actually stage that?

I never said that. I just think it is sad that she had to be up there in the first place. I think the whole public funeral concert thing is just wrong period. I mean before she spoke people were cheering and I heard someone scream "I love you Janet."

I was really hoping it was her choice, but she just seemed like she wanted to back away and was pushed up to the mic.

Hard to say. Could've been nerves or afraid she was going to break down. Being that young, I don't know if I could do something like that in front of that audience and the world.

I didn't see it yet but I am guessing she did it on her own. I can't imagine anyone making a kid do that (even his parents.)

Its not a funeral, its a memorial. When we had one for my mom there were funny stories and giggles too. Its a happy rememberance of the life not a somber funeral at a church.

Oh yeah, sorry. I agree that it being made so public is wrong. Hopefully once all the dust settles, she and her brothers will get a chance at a normal life away from the media.

You didn't do that on live TV in front of the world. Most of these people didn't know the man.

Is that little girl his biological daughter, just curious?

I would guess all the family had the chance to speak if they wanted and she said she wanted to say something , but once it came time she got nervous and wanted to pull away. I think most any person would have that kind of reaction.

Shifty Powers, a soldier from WWII died last week. He was with the unit that Band Of Brothers is based on. Hardly a peep in the media. I'll hold my condollences for true heroes like him and others like him.

Well, I do have condolences for the family and loved ones whenever anyone dies. But that is an excellent analogy with Shifty Powers. This society is obsessed with the cult of personality and puts that above all other things. Hence this and Princess Di's death overshadowing Mother Theresa's and on and on and on...

I guess you don't watch all these reality shows with kids nowadays like the Jack and Kate show or all of the kid shows on Nick. TV is all about exploiting children nowadays. Hell, even shows like wife swap is mostly about exploiting and traumatizing kids.

Thats true but its the same idea. Now if they are at the church service laughing and yelling then its a bad thing but this specific event is to be happy of the life.

I forgot about those Jon and Kate fools... good point.

Have a private funeral and then do a memorial concert or something for charity in a few weeks celebrating the guy. Parading out a gold casket in the middle of Staples center and having all these performances just seems out of place to me.
