I definitley favor the wool suit and it would be my first choice but I can understand why people may find it less appealing. I think it's WAY more interesting than your average Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs black suit, but I get that it's a little monotone. But I think that's the same problem that I have with the quail hunt outfit. The hat, jacket, pants & boots are all earth tones. That makes it monotone also and not to mention very similar to Bill's outfit(colorwise).
He wears the brown plaid jacket from the quail outfit just as often as the wool suit throughout the movie but he mixes it with all different vests/shirts/pants. I dig the brown plaid and think it is just as iconic as the charcoal wool but if it's mixed with something different than the quail hunt pants, it won't look so washed out.
Can't find pics but a good example of a different combo would be in Eli's first sermon scene. You get a good look at it before and after the sermon: Brown plaid jacket(same as quail gear), iconic brown hat, light grey stripped shirt, black vest(same as quail gear), dark grey pants(they may have a pinstripe. I don't have the BR only DVD so hard to tell). Brown calf-high boots laced to the top. Watch chain & pens.
I just don't think it's a good idea to chase a scene specific look because we want the accessories that it would come with. I think it's better to accept that we're asking Rainman to do a character that isn't that accessory heavy. Aside from the pens and watch chain(which can or can't be concidered accessories) he should of course have his pipe and maybe his metal wiskey flask. If the wool suit gets done, maybe a shot glass from the steak house like the one he swiped from Tilford. Or a hat as an accessory to go on the side of the DX sculpt(maybe that's too much to add to the DX). IDK if Rainman does printing but some big, dukey old school $100 bills like he offers Paul Sunday would be cool.
As much as I'd like to see Rainman work his magic on a shotgun or other extras, I'd rather see him do things that define Plainview more.
