I liked it fine, but was a little more disappointed with it than I was enthralled by it once the adrenaline settled.

MI5 is still my Top Mission.

MI6 and MI3 likely go back and forth for 2nd spot -- Davian is still the series best villain, with Esai now in 2nd spot.

This one, MI7... well, I suppose it hits the 3rd spot (or 4th).

I don't remember too much about MI4 except climbing that tower in Dubai.

I don't like MI2 at all.

MI1 almost feels like a completely different movie from the full franchise. I don't know where to rank it. But it has Ritter, Beart, one of the best suspense sequences in the entire series, and a lot of Lalo's score. So it should get the 3rd spot -- but MI7 is likely more rewatchable today.

I just keep reading “exciting chase and Fiat” in the same sentence and my brain does not compute lol
:lol

They play up the comedy big time during that sequence. Like True Lies level comedy. But it worked because it had sexy Mantis crashing through cars in a huge black armored vehicle with Cruise and hot Hayley Atwell speeding around in a little yellow Hot Wheels car. It was as ridiculous as it sounds but I was laughing my *** off, lol.

Best part of the movie for me. So was Pom... until the end.

And Hayley really stole the scenes she had with Tom.

My heart still belongs to Rebecca though. I had a feeling she was a goner once Hayley was added to the cast.

Rebecca was a good, complicated character. She also fit with Tom... there's a sexual non-sexual energy with those two. They fit together somehow.

Hayley runs circles around Tom with sexuality, and Tom doesn't even notice. Its like Major Nelson always berating Jeannie and not noticing how frickin' hot she is.

Everytime someone writes Pom I see **** instead lol

the ridiculous makeup disguises they put Cruise in that shouldn't have fooled anybody
Put in perspective, the makeups were pretty decent (Rob Bottin from memory). Go and watch the original show or the Australian remake show lol.
What the hell???
Sorry. I couldn’t remember anyone else gushing about it. Oops me.

Yes, I was surprised at how comedic the car chase was, but I was laughing along with everyone else.
McQ quoted What’s Up Doc as inspiration for that scene and you can def see it.

Yeah I was borderline offended when Cruise was offered the "choice" and didn't immediately choose Rebecca. I was all "dude I know that Hayley is hot but come on Tom!"
For what it's worth I didn't get the sense that Hayley was being set up as the new love interest for Tom. Obviously the movie plays up the sexual attraction a bit with the mind games and bantering (and the fact they're just two very gorgeous people), but I never got the feeling she was actually interested in him in any way. And it would seem incredibly out of character if we saw them kissing by the end of this.

Yeah but I thought that was less about the choice and more about Ethan's refusing to condemn any innocent person. Plus Ilsa might have the requisite skills to survive whereas (in his mind) Grace clearly did not, so that would have factored into his decision.

Agreed, within the movie itself I never got that sense but in the context of the entire series it sure looks like they decided to replace Rebecca with Hayley. I suppose it's possible that Rebecca's schedule prevented her involvement in Part II but I was under the impression that I & II were shot together so that seems an unlikely reason. Earlier I mentioned that I found it in poor taste to replace Rebecca so late in the series. Between Ethan's former wife seemingly giving her approval to Ilsa at the end of MI:6 and Ilsa saving Ethan's *** time and again I stand by that statement, notwithstanding Hayley's wonderful performance.
