This might be a tall order, but is there any retailers that guarantee an oil-free DX02 Batman figure?

No, there's no way to guarantee this is fixed. Johnnyr said his dealer was told it's fixed, but where we've seen the problem show even a month after owning it, I don't think there's really anything to give people reason to think it's fixed. It can show up to the store fine, mine was fine for a few days after receipt. If Hot Toys were more public and up front about this problem, you might be able to feel safe that things are fixed, but they haven't even come out and acknowledged it, the only hints of them dealing with it come from he said / she said comments about dealers people are buying from and a few responses received from HT CS from people looking for replacements and such. Where they haven't demonstrated a serious attitude towards it, they're not giving much reason to feel it is fixed.

The problem COULD be fixed, so far a few people have replacements they say haven't shown it yet, but it's too early to tell.

However, guarantee is not possible.

I'm kinda disappointed. I would love to get it, but I know this would bug the crap outta me. I might just hold out for them to hopefully make Keaton.

Part of me doesn't care about them doing Keaton at this point, their attitude with this figure doesn't make me confident about future Batman's. I think there's something really wrong with the rubber or production process on this DX figure and if they do the same on future ones, I see this problem continuing. However, Keaton's suit has no fine detailing for paint, so hopefully they'd just use the softer rubber that doesn't have problems.

Some of the customs of him are pretty good but they can't hold a candle to what HT could pull off.

In theory, I'm very much for it, I have a great custom but there are some things an HT version would achieve that you can't get with any of the customs offered. I just hope the problems of this TDK Batman will be a lesson learned and not repeated.

Could be this year, DCD and Toynami are pushing Keaton products this year and HT did mention at the start of the year in some article that some classic characters would be coming. I have a feeling we might only get Keaton Batman and no Nicholson Joker so they could do a single release and not have it really interfere with their fuller lines, though I'd love more than just Batman out of the Burton films, and it could be a line to bridge the gap between TDK and Batman 3. Even if this year, it'll be a filler line like T2 between the hot, current releases. Really should have come out last year though to tie with the 20th Anniversary.

I'm beginning to think that now. Hence why they are acting so super secretive FBI like since they aren't being upfront about it. In between times trying to remedy a silent fix as if nothing had happened. Brush it under the rug.

Most companies don't respond to customers when 1. They don't know what is causing the problem, and 2. They don't know exactly how to resolve the problem, and 3. They don't know how wide spread the issue is?

I am not the type of person who likes to step up to defend companies or corporations, but HTs has a pretty good track record. I've had them replace several figures and figure parts, not to mention the pre-emptive fix we got on the original John Conner fig. So I think they will do something but only when they come up with a solution. Afterall, they can't start replacing figures if all they can do right now is give you another one that may have the same issue as the one you sent them. Can you imagine what the backlash would be if they started doing that?!?!?

It could be, but even sharing that would be up front. The up front most are looking for is for HT to even acknowledge a problem. Generic, "we're sorry, contact our CS department" and non responses from the CS group leave you in the dark.

As much as it would suck for them to have no answer, it'd be better than making people feel ignored.

I'd like as much as a fix, just to see them come out and say, we understand the problem, we're unable to identify the cause and apologize.

The problem is, they're worrying about themselves, they're playing a game right now to keep from having mass order cancellations in the DCD shipment. If they come out right now and say we don't know what's wrong, people will assume it's not getting fixed and cancel orders.

It's frustrating because on some occassions, they act like they're concerned about their customers, but in an instant like this, their actions show only concern for their money.

I get what you are saying MF, but before the 3 points I laid out are determined, most companies are not gonna give a response beyond maybe saying, "We're looking into the issue."

I think they should at least do that, but like you said, any comment that may acknowledges the problem may cause mass cancellations. But those cancellations may be unjustified if the issue isn't as widespread as some might assume or if the issue really is a non-issue. The leaking may stop over time or it may be limited to a select batch. All these issues may not be determined yet.

It'd be nice to even know HT's looking into it, even if they have no answers, or announce a delay in the DCD shipment until they can get an answer.

They're badly representing themselves publicly with this figure, their public face is saying we don't care and that's no the image you want to project to people weighing a $200 purchase.

I don't know... I think that unless they knew ALL the details i.e. how many the exact cause... they risk a huge backlash and people panicking and dropping orders. I would guess they think a grumbling on message boards is a lesser evil than saying "something is wrong but we don't know what it is or how far reaching" and look incompetent. I'm sure they will make it right eventually (I hope) but who really knows if this is the best way to handle it.

It seems equally risky to me to act ignorant of the problem.

To me, the safest route would be, delay the DCD shipment, let the customer base know you're aware of and investigating the problem, and don't release the DCD shipment until they can be sure it's resolved.

It may be sucky, but at least people could trust in them and they wouldn't be facing returns if they can fix it.

Look at Toyota, obviously a more serious scenario, but still, they are making a lot of effort to boost customer security in their current and future products, that's the smart thing to do, not try to move on and act as if nothing's happened.

I agree about reputation to an extent. I do think that they are shooting themselves in the foot though if they are offering replacements and the issue is not fixed.

It's all $$$ in the end. If they acknowledge a problem with ALL the 2nd batch of figures then they are going to loose a load of money in replacement for a recall which it would inevitably lead to. If they don't acknowledge it - only people who care enough to do something about it will press and get a replacement - not everyone like in the case of an actual recall.

I'm not condoning it or saying it's right. That's just what I think is behind it.

You know what's sad. Look at breakersrevenge. He's a dealer of some sort, I don't know the exact details but Hot Toys is ignoring his batch. There's other boards I've read who Hot Toys is replacing figures for and those who are not. Eddie's as well, I don't know the final outcome to that either but the last I read they were only replacing 1 of his two figures.

If Hot Toys was really honest and decent they wouldn't be cherry picking. They should be offering replacement notifications somehow. I don't know how but to make it aware if they were that honest.

At some point, unless they can really move past these problems, it's going to bite them in the ass.

The DX Batman's been a problem, they opted to allow penalty free order cancellation of Iron Man because of how they handled that figure. Whatever recourse there might be to being honest and open financially in one instance, dishonesty and games can have consequences beyond the immediate.

Say they never fix this DX Batman or acknowledge the problem, I forsee a lot of shaky buyers next time they do a Batman figure. HT should be thinking ahead, they're going to make figures innevitably for the next Batman. It may cost them to fix this DX problem, but treating the broad customer base with respect and care will go a long way to ensure future sales where ther current practice can have damaging effects.

Well the Toyota example is even more fitting since Toyota seem to have known about the problem before but tried to sweep it under the rugg pretending it never happened and look. It came back biting them in the ass 1000x fold. Is HT on the same path? They did show in the peeling DX02 case that they only come forward after having a cause and resolution. But they also replaced faulty units for faulty units early on and draw the wrath of the HK collecting community. I do strongly believe the problem is widespread but you can tell even from feedback here that some do not have the eye for it. Others choose to ignore and accept it without considering the short and long term consequences. Short term - HT will ignore this. Long term - or not so long our figures will become brittle or who knows what. Again sad thing is it took only a few vocals to bring down HT during the peeling and the IM HS debacle but us playing nice we are being ignored. Another week or so this would have been a 3 month issue and I guess we are at the end of the toad and should step up out efforts yet again? I personally gonna wait for my replacement to arrive and give that a week or two or however long it takes for the problem to resurface. But if it does I am going after HT FB in the only tone HT seems to respond to.

I do hope the Americans create a **** storm on Facebook if this is not resolved end of May.

I'm curious if Hot Toys is even going to honour replacements if this is still oozing 3 - 4 - 5 months after owning it. When all you ever got was keep wiping it.
